Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) are considered one of the most severe chronic complications of diabetes and can lead to amputation in severe cases. In addition, bacterial infections in diabetic chronic wounds aggravate this scenario by threatening human health. Wound dressings made of polymer matrices with embedded metal nanoparticles can inhibit microorganism growth and promote wound healing, although the current clinical treatments for diabetic chronic wounds remain unsatisfactory. In this view, this research reports the synthesis and characterization of innovative hybrid hydrogels made of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) chemically crosslinked by citric acid (CA) functionalized with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) generated in situ using an eco-friendly aqueous process...

In this study, anisotropic graphene aerogels are prepared using the heat-flow method. Then, graphene aerogels with nanosilver particles are prepared via a silver mirror reaction. The aerogels are soaked in paraffin wax and the effects on the properties of the wax are investigated. The thermal conductivity of pure paraffin wax is 0.2553 W m-1 K-1 . For the prepared PCM, the aerogel content was 0.92 vol%; this increases to 1.2234 W m-1 K-1 , which corresponds to a thermal conductivity enhancement efficiency of 582%...

BACKGROUND: Patients with burn injuries colonized by multidrug-resistant P. aeruginosa face increased mortality risk. The efficacy of colistin, a last-resort treatment, is declining as resistance levels rise. P. aeruginosa's robust biofilm exacerbates antibiotic resistance. Photodynamic Inactivation (PDI) shows promise in fighting biofilm. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Nano curcumin (nCur) particles were synthesized, and their chemical characteristics were determined using zeta potential (ZP), dynamic light scattering analysis (DLS), and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR)...

Catechol, which has a high toxicity and low degradability, poses significant risks to both human health and the environment. Tracking of catechol residues is essential to protect human health and to assess the safety of the environment. We constructed sensing platforms to detect catechol based on the conductive metal-organic frameworks [Ni3 (HITP)2 ] and their nanosilver composites. The reduction process of catechol at the Ni3 (HITP)2 /AgNP electrode is chemically irreversible as a result of the difference in compatibility of the oxidation stability and conductivity between the Ni3 (HITP)2 /AgNS and Ni3 (HITP)2 /AgNP electrodes...

Cotton textile is very comfortable to wear, and also provides an ideal environment for bacterial propagation, easily causing harm to human health. In order to address this issue, various antibacterial techniques are employed for cotton finishing. However, some processes are complex and involve the use of environmentally unfriendly chemicals. In this work, a durable and efficient antibacterial cotton fabric was prepared via grafting of an amino-compound containing dynamic disulfide bonds, and then in-situ deposition of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs)...

Silver metal and compounds have antibacterial properties, although their action's mechanisms are not fully understood. Scientists generally consider that silver disrupts the bacterial cell wall. It causes a structural change in the bacterial cell membrane and cytoplasm. It also stops deoxyribonucleic acid replication, resulting in inactivating enzymatic activity and cell death. The antimicrobial effect of silver-containing compounds relies on the release of bioactive silver ions. Hence, silver metal and compounds have been used in medicine to prevent infection for hundreds of years...

Owing to the unique physicochemical properties and the low manufacturing costs, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have gained growing interest and their application has expanded considerably in industrial and agricultural sectors. The large-scale production of these nanoparticles inevitably entails their direct or indirect release into the environment, raising some concerns about their hazardous aspects. In recent years, efforts have been made to identify new anti-cancer therapies. Various types of nanomaterials, including silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), are being considered as an option. In addition to its well-known antibacterial activity, AgNPs exhibit cytotoxic potential in both physiological and cancer cells by inducing stress-mediated autophagy and apoptotic cell death. A rapidly growing collection of data suggests that the proper regulation of autophagic machinery may provide an efficient tool for suppressing the development of cancer...

This study presents the synthesis and characterization of alginate-based nanocomposite peelable films, reinforced by carbon nanofibers (CNFs) decorated with nanoparticles that possess remarkable antimicrobial properties. These materials are suitable for immediate decontamination applications, being designed as fluid formulations that can be applied on contaminated surfaces, and subsequently, they can rapidly form a peelable film via divalent ion crosslinking and can be easily peeled and disposed of. Silver, copper, and zinc oxide nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized using superficial oxidized carbon nanofibers (CNF-ox) as support...

The exploration of cytology mechanisms of nanosilver uptake, toxicity, and detoxification has become an important issue due to its widespread applications. Previous studies have shown differences in the toxic response of mammalian cells to nanosilver. However, the analysis results based on cell populations ignore the impact of cell uptake heterogeneity on the expression of associated stress proteins and cellular physiological activities. In this respect, this work investigated the interaction between silver uptake and metallothionein (MT) expression in individual cells...
