BACKGROUND: In cardiology, the paths of the arteries penetrating the septomarginal trabecula (SMT) are especially important. They provide blood supply to the apparatus of the right atrioventricular orifice and often form anastomoses with the system of the right coronary artery. Despite this, only a few publications discuss the morphological aspect of the septomarginal trabecula, and available histological analyses seldom deal with its blood supply. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to analyze the vessel structure of the septomarginal trabecula in terms of the variability of the area of the cross-section of the lumen and the muscular layer of the artery...

PURPOSE: Manual feedback in basic robot-assisted minimally invasive surgery (RMIS) training can consume a significant amount of time from expert surgeons' schedule and is prone to subjectivity. In this paper, we explore the usage of different holistic features for automated skill assessment using only robot kinematic data and propose a weighted feature fusion technique for improving score prediction performance. Moreover, we also propose a method for generating 'task highlights' which can give surgeons a more directed feedback regarding which segments had the most effect on the final skill score...

Introduction: Military prehospital and en route care (ERC) directly impacts patient morbidity and mortality. Provider knowledge and skills are critical variables in the effectiveness of ERC. No Navy doctrine defines provider choice for patient transport or requires standardized provider training. Frequently, Search and Rescue Medical Technicians (SMTs) and Navy Nurses (ERC RNs) are tasked with this mission though physicians have also been used. Navy ERC provider training varies greatly by professional role...

Sensorimotor training (SMT) is popularly applied as exercise in rehabilitation settings, particularly for musculoskeletal pain. With insufficient evidence on its effect on pain and function, this exploratory randomised controlled trial investigated the potential effects of SMT in rehabilitation of chronic non-specific low back pain. Two arms received 9x30 minutes physiotherapy with added interventions: The experimental arm received 15 minutes of postural SMT while the comparator arm performed 15 minutes of added sub-effective low-intensity training...

Among the neglected tropical diseases, leishmaniasis stands out for its worldwide distribution and diversity of symptoms. Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL), for instance, is endemic in 18 countries, but the available drugs to fight it have high toxicity and low patient adherence. In order to overcome this, dilemma drugs that target enzymes which are absent in the human host, such as Leishmania braziliensis sterol C24-methyltransferase (SMT-C24, EC, are needed. However, medicinal chemistry efforts toward this goal have been hampered by the low yield of soluble recombinant SMT-C24 afforded by currently available expression systems...

The co-presence of bodies in intersubjective situations can give rise to processes of kinesthetic empathy and physiological synchronization, especially in the context of dance: the body and attention of the spectators are oriented towards the dancers. In this study, we investigate the processes of "body-mind" resonance between a choreography and its spectators, and more specifically the lasting impact of this resonance post-performance. We then explore the relation between the observed effects and subjective measures of attention...

Background: Workplace health promotion (WHP) strongly requires the employer's efforts to improve the psychosocial, ergonomic, and physical environments of the workplace. There are many studies discussing the socio-economic advantage of WHP intervention programmes and thus the internal and external factors motivating employers to implement and integrate such programmes. However, the socio-economic impacts of the employer's multifactorial efforts to improve the work environment need to be adequately assessed...

A 77-year-old patient was admitted to our hospital for the further examination of melena. A computed tomography scan detected two submucosal tumors (SMTs) in the stomach and jejunum. Double-balloon endoscopy revealed the presence of a delle on the jejunal SMT, suggesting that the SMT was the origin of the gastrointestinal bleeding. Both tumors were surgically resected and subsequently diagnosed via histology as gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs). Furthermore, the two GISTs had different mutations in the c-kit gene, suggesting that they were derived from different clonal origins...

This study quantified the complex stability constants of sulfamethazine (SMT) with cadmium (Cd2+) and lead (Pb2+) under different pH conditions. The UV-Vis spectrophotometer was used for acquiring the complexation data. Results showed that the complex stability constants of SMT with cadmium (Cd2+) and lead (Pb2+) increased as a function of the solution pH. In the investigated pH range, Cd2+ showed stronger complex affinity with SMT than Pb2+. It appeared that cation-π interactions might dominate the complex between SMT with Pb2+ and Cd2+ at acid environment, and the covalent bonding might play a major role at neutral environment...

OBJECTIVE: Nasal septum deviation (NSD) is an anomaly that disturbs normal mucus drainage in sinuses, leading to recurrent sinusitis. Sinusitis, infections, and mucosal irritations are the potential causes of Schneiderian membrane thickening (SMT). The aim of this study was to evaluate the characteristics and association between NSD and SMT along with factors such as age, gender, and tooth groups using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging. METHODS: The maxillary sinus and nasal cavity of 249 patients (136 females and 113 males) were examined retrospectively using CBCT...

Single-molecule tracking (SMT) offers rich information on the dynamics of underlying biological processes, but multicolor SMT has been challenging due to spectral cross talk and a need for multiple laser excitations. Here, we describe a single-molecule spectral imaging approach for live-cell tracking of multiple fluorescent species at once using a single-laser excitation. Fluorescence signals from all the molecules in the field of view are collected using a single objective and split between positional and spectral channels...

The purpose of this work was to evaluate the feasibility and reproducibility of the spherical mean technique (SMT), a multi-compartmental diffusion model, in the spinal cord of healthy controls, and to assess its ability to improve spinal cord characterization in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients at 3 T. SMT was applied in the cervical spinal cord of eight controls and six relapsing-remitting MS patients. SMT provides an elegant framework to model the apparent axonal volume fraction vax , intrinsic diffusivity Dax , and extra-axonal transverse diffusivity Dex_perp (which is estimated as a function of vax and Dax ) without confounds related to complex fiber orientation distribution that reside in diffusion MRI modeling...

Sulfonamide antibiotics are ubiquitous pollutants in aquatic environments due to their large production and extensive application. In this paper, the iron doped fibrous-structured silica (KCC-1) nanospheres (Fe-KCC-1) was prepared, characterized, and applied as a catalyst for catalytic ozonation of sulfamethazine (SMT). The effects of ozone dosage, catalyst dosage, and initial concentration of SMT were examined. The experimental results showed that Fe-KCC-1 had large surface area (464.56 m2 g-1) and iron particles were well dispersed on the catalyst...

V1-xMoxO2 thin films were fabricated by nanolamination of VO2/MoO3 alternating layers using atomic layer deposition (ALD) process, in which tetrakis-dimethyl-amino vanadium (IV) [V(NMe2)4] and molybdenum hexacarbonyl (VI) [Mo(CO)6] were used as vanadium precursor and molybdenum precursor respectively. The dopant content of V1-xMoxO2 films was controlled by adjusting MoO3 cycle percentage (PMo) in ALD pulse sequence, which was varied from 2% to 10%. Effects of PMo on V1-xMoxO2 crystal structure, morphology, semiconductor-to-metal transition (SMT) properties and optical transmittance were studied...

Nowadays, hydropower plays an essential role in the energy market. Due to their fast response and regulation capacity, hydraulic turbines operate at off-design conditions with a high number of starts and stops. In this situation, dynamic loads and stresses over the structure are high, registering some failures over time, especially in the runner. Therefore, it is important to know the dynamic response of the runner while in operation, i.e., the natural frequencies, damping and mode shapes, in order to avoid resonance and fatigue problems...
