Mn3CuN/n-Si heterojunction device is firstly designed in antiperovskite compound and excellent rectifying characteristics are obtained. The rectification ratio (RR) reaches as large as 38.9 at 10 V and the open-circuit voltage Voc of 1.13 V is observed under temperature 410 K. The rectifying behaviors can be well described by the Shockley equation, indicating the existence of Schottky diode. Simultaneously, a particular semiconductor-metal transition (SMT) behavior at 250 K is also observed in the Mn3CuN/n-Si heterojunction...

A 68-year-old man was evaluated for an esophageal submucosal tumor (SMT). The esophageal SMT had been incidentally identified 3 years previously on esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) during cancer screening, and had increased in size on subsequent follow-ups, although the patient had no symptoms. EGD at our hospital revealed a yellowish elevated 9-mm lesion, covered by normal squamous epithelium in the middle of the esophagus (Fig. 1A). The tumor had a negative cushion sign. Endoscopic ultrasonography revealed an isoechoic mass in the lamina propria (Fig...

BACKGROUND: Reporting of adverse events in randomized clinical trials (RCTs) is encouraged by the authors of The Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT) statement. With robust methodological design and adequate reporting, RCTs have the potential to provide useful evidence on the incidence of adverse events associated with spinal manipulative therapy (SMT). During a previous investigation, it became apparent that comprehensive search strategies combining text words with indexing terms was not sufficiently sensitive for retrieving records that were known to contain reports on adverse events...

Epstein-Barr virus-associated smooth muscle tumor (EBV-SMT) is a rare neoplasm recognized in immunocompromised patients. There are less than 30 cases of EBV-SMT reported in pediatric population following solid organ transplantation. Herein, we report a case of an 8-year-old female who was incidentally noted to have multiple lesions in the liver 8 years after heart transplantation. The tumor was composed of a cellular proliferation of spindle-shaped cells with low mitotic activity. The diagnosis of EBV-SMT was confirmed by in situ hybridization for EBV-encoded small RNA (EBER) transcripts...

Single-molecule tracking can extract quantitative kinetic information and identify possible state transitions of diffusing molecules (such as switching between binding and unbinding) in the in vivo environment of living cells. Confined diffusion, caused by the encompassing membrane boundary of the cell, results in increased uncertainties in identifying state-associated diffusion coefficients and transition probabilities. This problem is particularly acute in bacterial cells because of their small sizes. A standard approach to eliminating confinement errors in bacterial cells is to analyze molecule displacements only along the long axis of the cell, where molecules experience the least confinement, and hence turn three-dimensional tracking into a one-dimensional problem...

Finding new compounds with antifungal properties is an important task due to the side effects of common antifungal drugs and emerging antifungal resistance in fungal strains. ∆(24)-sterol methyltransferase (24-SMT) is a crucial enzyme that plays important roles in fungal ergosterol biosynthesis pathway and is not found in humans. In the present study, the effects of α-bisabolol on Aspergillus fumigatus Af239 growth and ergosterol synthesis on the base of 24-SMT enzyme activity were studied; in addition, the expression of erg6, the gene encoded 24-SMT, was considered...

Performance and safety are impaired in employees engaged in shift work. Combat divers who use closed-circuit oxygen diving apparatus undergo part of their training during the night hours. The greatest risk involved in diving with such apparatus is the development of central nervous system oxygen toxicity (CNS-OT). We investigated whether the switch from day-to-night activity may be a risk factor for the development of CNS-OT using a diurnal animal model, the fat sand rat (Psammomys obesus). Animals were kept on a 12:12 light-dark schedule (6 a...
