As an enteric virus, chicken astrovirus has been related to various kinds of diseases in chickens, including white chick syndrome, runting-stunting syndrome, severe kidney disease, urate deposits and visceral gout, generating economic losses in the poultry industry globally. The complete ORF2 gene of 31 CAstV isolates in six provinces of China during 2020-2022 was characterized and analyzed with the purpose of better understanding the molecular epidemiology and genetic diversity of CAstV field isolates. Phylogenetic analysis which was based on the complete ORF2 (capsid) amino acid sequence of 31 CAstV isolates and 57 reference strains indicated that 2 isolates belonged to subgroup Ai, 10 isolates belonged to subgroup Bi, 3 isolates belonged to subgroup Bii, 5 isolates belonged to subgroup Biii, 7 isolates belonged to subgroup Biv, 3 isolates belonged to subgroup Bv, and one isolate (JS202103) belonged to a new B subgroup...

The so-called population balance model (PBM) is the most widely used approach to describe the grinding process. The analysis of the grinding data is carried out using-among others-the one-size fraction BII method. According to the BII method, the breakage parameters can be determined when a narrow particle size fraction is used as feed material to the mill. However, it is commonly accepted that these parameters are influenced by changing the particle size distribution in the mill. Thus, this study examines the breakage parameters through kinetic testing in different natural-size distribution environments generated by closed-cycle grinding tests that simulate industrial milling conditions...

The porous structure can reduce the elastic modulus of a dental implant and better approximate the elastic characteristics of the material to the alveolar bone. Therefore, it has the potential to alleviate bone stress shielding around the implant. However, natural bone is heterogeneous, and, thus, introducing a porous structure may produce pathological bone stress. Herein, we designed a porous implant with axial gradient variation in porosity to alleviate stress shielding in the cancellous bone while controlling the peak stress value in the cortical bone margin region...

Endoscopy training models (ETM) using artificial organs are practical, hygienic and comfortable for trainees. However, few models exist for training endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) in patients with surgically altered anatomy. This training is necessary as the number of bariatric surgeries performed worldwide increases. ETM with human-like anatomy were developed to represent the postoperative anatomy after Billroth II (BII) reconstruction for a standard duodenoscope and the situs of a long-limbed Roux-en-Y (RY) for device-assisted enteroscopy (DAE)...

OBJECTIVE: To establish the diagnostic performance of fine-needle aspiration in detecting benign and malignant neoplasm in comparison with post-thyroidectomy histopathological findings among patients who received a thyroidectomy. METHODS: Retrospective observational data collected between 2011-2021 were included from patients who received partial or total thyroidectomy. The Bethesda system was used to classify neoplasms from fine-needle aspiration procedures as benign or malignant...

INTRODUCTION: Breast augmentation remains one of the most prevalent procedures in plastic surgery. While most patients experience high satisfaction with the outcomes, a subset may encounter various complications or dissatisfaction with achieved results necessitating subsequent surgical intervention including implant removal or exchange. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We collected information from three pivotal private medical centers in Israel where a considerable number of breast surgeries are performed...

Epigenetic alterations are regarded as a potential mechanism mediating the effects of environmental risk factors on vulnerability for a range of mental health problems. Recent studies have addressed the question whether DNA methylation patterns predict the outcome of psychological interventions and whether treatment effects might be associated with changes of DNA methylation. We assessed phobic fear symptoms, treatment-relevant traits and treatment response in 308 adults free of psychotropic medication - highly fearful of either spiders, blood-injury-injections, dental-treatments or heights - all subjected to highly standardized exposure-based one-session fear treatment...

PURPOSE: Gastrointestinal mesenchymal tumors (GMTs) include malignant, intermediate malignancy, and benign lesions. The aim is to propose a new surgical classification to guide the intraoperative minimally invasive surgical strategy in case of non-malignant GMTs less than 5 cm. METHODS: Primary endpoint is the creation of a classification regarding minimally invasive surgical technique for these tumors based on their gastric location. Secondary endpoint is to analyze the R0 rate and the postoperative morbidity and mortality rates...

BACKGROUND: Breast implants have always been composed of a silicone elastomer envelope filled with either silicone gel or saline. Breast Implant Illness (BII) is a set of symptoms which has previously been linked to the leakage of silicone particles from the implants into the body. OBJECTIVES: Our research aimed to quantify the number of silicone particles present in the capsules of breast implants available in North American. METHODS: Thirty-five peri-prosthetic capsules were sampled and analyzed, and silicone particles were counted and measured...

SUMMARY: Protein structures carry signal of common ancestry and can therefore aid in reconstructing their evolutionary histories. To expedite the structure-informed inference process, a web server, Structome, has been developed that allows users to rapidly identify protein structures similar to a query protein and to assemble datasets useful for structure-based phylogenetics. Structome was created by clustering ∼94% of the structures in RCSB PDB using 90% sequence identity and representing each cluster by a centroid structure...

The study investigates a mechanistic link if bacterial biofilm mediated host-pathogen interaction leads to immunological complications associated with breast implant illness (BII). Over 10 million women worldwide have breast implants. In recent years, women have described a constellation of immunological symptoms believed to be related to their breast implants. The study included 178 subjects divided in three cohorts. Eighty-six patients reported symptoms consistent with BII. Control group I (non-BII, N=55) included patients with breast implants without BII symptoms but went through explantation of the breast implant...

INTRODUCTION: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is the most common cause of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in males. Curcumin exhibits anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor properties which may be effective for BPH. CsPbBr3 all-inorganic perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have been extensively investigated due to their remarkable stability. However, their limited film quality and wide bandgap result in a low photoelectric conversion efficiency (PCE). In this study, BiI3 was incorporated into CsPbBr3 films to synergistically enhance light absorption and film quality. It was found that the partial substitution of Pb2+ and Br- with Bi3+ and I- in CsPbBr3 improved film quality, enhanced light absorption, and facilitated charge transfer and extraction...

PURPOSE: Upper airway collapse during sleep in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a complex and dynamic phenomenon. By observing and analyzing the dynamic changes in the upper airway and its surrounding tissues during airway obstruction, we aim to reveal dynamic characteristics in different obstruction patterns, and the relationship between anatomical features during normal breathing and dynamic characteristics of airway obstruction.
