Postinflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) occurs after various dermatoses, exogenous stimuli, and dermatologic procedures. The clinical course of PIH is chronic and unpredictable, although the probability of resolution of epidermal hyperpigmentation is better than those of dermal hyperpigmentation. PIH can be prevented or alleviated. When it does occur, the underlying inflammatory conditions should be sought and treated as the first step to reduce the progression of inflammation and PIH (which is an inflammatory consequence)...

Postinflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) commonly occurs after various endogenous and exogenous stimuli, especially in dark-skinned individuals. PIH is one of the most common complications of procedures performed using laser and other light sources. The severity of PIH is determined by the inherent skin color, degree and depth of inflammation, degree of dermoepidermal junction disruption, inflammatory conditions, and the stability of melanocytes, leading to epidermal and dermal melanin pigment deposition...

OBJECTIVES: To study the role of ovarian stimulation procedures on the risk of pregnancy-induced hypertension, gestational diabetes mellitus and neonatal outcomes according to women's characteristics and the causes of infertility. DESIGN: Retrospective, observational, case/control study. PATIENTS: Spontaneous pregnancies (group A, n=8107), pregnancies achieved after mild ovarian ovulation induction without other Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) procedures (group B, n=44), pregnancies after mild ovarian stimulation and ART procedures (group C, n=53) or pregnancies after multi (>2) follicular stimulation with gonadotrophin therapy and ART procedures (group D, n=133); all of the groups had identical protocols for prenatal care...

INTRODUCTION: Increase in Nitric Oxide (NO) may be important in vascular adaptation needed to accommodate increased uteroplacental blood flow as pregnancy advances. Hence, in certain conditions like Pregnancy Induced Hypertension (PIH) and Fetal Growth Restriction (FGR), NO donors may play an effective role in increasing uteroplacental perfusion. Transdermal route appears to be a safe and effective route. AIM: To evaluate the effect of nitroglycerine patch on Doppler velocity waveforms of the uterine, umbilical and fetal middle cerebral arteries in patients with chronic placental insufficiency...

We investigated the incidence of post-intubation hypotension (PIH) in hemodynamically stable patients with STEMI requiring rapid sequences intubation (RSI) and medicated with ketamine or midazolam as induction agent. STEMI patients admitted between 1st January 2009 and 1st January 2017 who did not receive any type of inotropic support before the endotracheal intubation (ETI) was reviewed. PIH was defined as a reduction greater than 20% or a drop of systolic blood pressure (SBP) below 90 mmHg within 10 min from the administration of the induction agent [ketamine (1 mg/kg) or midazolam (0...

Objective: To investigate the changes of content and mRNA expression of gelsolin and proliferation activity of T-lymphocyte in spleen of mice with severe burn injury, so as to determine the optimum intervention time of gelsolin. Methods: Eighty male BALB/c mice were divided into sham injury group and burn group according to the random number table, with 40 mice in each group. Mice in burn group were inflicted with 15% total body surface area full-thickness scald (hereinafter referred to as burn) on the back...

The inadequate supply of health workers and demand-side barriers due to clinical practice that heeds too little attention to cultural context are serious obstacles to achieving universal health coverage and the fulfillment of the human rights to health, especially for the poor and vulnerable living in remote rural areas. A number of strategies have been deployed to increase both the supply of healthcare workers and the demand for healthcare services. However, more can be done to improve service delivery as well as mitigate the geographic inequalities that exist in this field...

The objectives of this study were to compare pregnancy outcomes in women with and without HIV infection, and to evaluate the effect of HAART on pregnancy in HIV-infected women. METHODS: This is a prospective case record analysis of 212 HIV-infected women delivering between 2002 and 2015, in a tertiary health care center in India...

BACKGROUND: Striae distensae (SD) are a frequent skin condition for which treatment remains a challenge. Various laser treatments have been employed to remove the epidermis and cause dermal wound and heating with subsequent dermal collagen remodeling. OBJECTIVE: To determine the efficacy and safety of a variable square pulse Erbium: YAG (VSP Er:YAG) laser for the treatment of striae in skin phototypes III-IV. METHODS: Twenty-one women with SD were treated monthly for 2 months with VSP Er:YAG laser resurfacing using a 7-mm spot size...

The complex relaxation from the photoinduced high-spin phase (PIHS) to the low-spin phase of the bimetallic two-dimensional coordination spin-crossover polymer [Fe[(Hg(SCN)3)2](4,4'-bipy)2]n is reported. During the thermal relaxation, commensurate and incommensurate spin-state concentration waves (SSCWs) form. However, contrary to the steps forming at thermal equilibrium, associated with long-range SSCW order, the SSCWs forming during the relaxation from the PIHS phase correspond to short-range order, revealed by diffuse X-ray scattering...

BACKGROUND: Pregnancy-related hypertensive disorders, including preeclampsia (PE) and pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH), may influence the maternal risk of breast cancer. However, results of the cohort studies were inconsistent. METHODS: An updated meta-analysis of cohort studies was performed to evaluate the association between PE, PIH and maternal breast cancer incidence. Relevant studies were identified via searching of PubMed and Embase databases. A random effect model was applied to synthesize the results...

OBJECTIVE: To study the prevalence of thyroid peroxidase autoantibody in euthyroid pregnant women and to evaluate the association between thyroid peroxidase autoantibody and pregnancy outcomes. MATERIALS AND METHODS: One thousand thirty consecutive pregnant women attending the antenatal clinic over a period of 1 year and were carrying a healthy singleton uncomplicated intrauterine pregnancy and consuming iodized salt were recruited for the study. Outcomes of the pregnancy was compared between TPO antibody positive euthyroid women (group 1) and TPO antibody negative euthyroid women (group 2)...

PURPOSE: We previously attempted to develop quantitative enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) systems for the PDA039/044/071 peptides, potential serum disease biomarkers (DBMs) of pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH), primarily identified by a peptidomic approach (BLOTCHIP(®)-mass spectrometry (MS)). However, our methodology did not extend to PDA071 (cysteinyl α2-HS-glycoprotein341-367), due to difficulty to produce a specific antibody against the peptide. The aim of the present study was to establish an alternative PDA071 quantitation system using liquid chromatography-multiple reaction monitoring (LC-MRM )/MS, to explore the potential utility of PDA071 as a DBM for PIH...

BACKGROUND: Septic arthritis is a common and potentially devastating disease characterized by severe intra-articular (IA) inflammation and fibrin deposition. Research into equine joint pathologies has focused on inflammation, but recent research in humans suggests that both haemostatic and inflammatory pathways are activated in the joint compartment in arthritic conditions. The aim of this study was to characterize the IA haemostatic and inflammatory responses in horses with experimental lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced joint inflammation...

The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between body adiposity index (BAI) and pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH) in third-trimester pregnant women. This study included 126 women in the third trimester of pregnancy. All participants completed anthropometric measurements and ultrasonic testing. The formula of BAI was hip circumference (cm)/height (m)-18. The frequency of PIH were significantly higher in the upper tertile group (31.0%) than in the low tertile group (7.1%) and the middle tertile group (4...
