This study evaluated changes in the root canal length (RCL) and the accuracy of the electronic apex locator (EAL) during the different stages of endodontic treatment and retreatment. Fifty-six mesial root canals of mandibular molars were selected. The actual root canal length (AL) of the canals was obtained by inserting a size 15 hand file up to the apical foramen, under magnification. The electronic lengths were obtained at the "APEX" mark of Root ZX II, using an alginate model. Both measurements were performed at three different stages of the initial root canal treatment-unflared, flared, and concluded-and at two stages of retreatment, after achieving patency and repreparation...

INTRODUCTION: There are many reasons to maintain apical patency during routine endodontic treatment. Thousands of canals are treated utilizing a patency file every year all around the world. The effect patency has on the apical anatomy of the root has been controversial for generations. OBJECTIVE: This ex vivo descriptive study was created to show the effect patency files actually have on the apical root canal anatomy using visually detailed SEM images supported by dental radiographs...

INTRODUCTION: Maintaining apical patency has been advocated to minimize canal transportation, ledge formation, and loss of working length, despite increasing debris extrusion. A previous study in 1997 by Cailleteau and Mullaney reported 50% of United States dental schools taught patency. This present study aimed to evaluate recent trends in endodontic education in United States dental schools, in relation to the prevalence of maintaining apical patency and examining the primary methods of working length determination, instrumentation, obturation, and temporization...

BACKGROUND: Determination of working length (WL) is necessary for the successful outcome of root canal treatment (RCT). Common methods in WL determination include tactile, radiographic, and electronic apex locators (EAL). AIM: The aim of this study was to compare three methods of WL determination to the actual visualization of the apical constriction (AC). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Consecutive patients with indications for extraction of single-rooted single canal teeth at the University of Ghana Dental School clinic were randomly assigned to three groups...

Trichiurus lepturus is a carnivorous fish, and most of the previous anatomical research has focused on computed tomography imaging and histology of their teeth and fangs, while the remaining structures of pharyngeal cavity remain unexplored. The present research is the first to use anatomical examinations alongside scanning electron microscopy to investigate the T. lepturus oral cavity. The oropharyngeal roof included teeth, upper lip, rostral and caudal velum and the palate. The middle of the palate showed a median groove flanked by two folds, followed by a median band flanked by micro-folds, thereafter the palate became crescent shaped...

Locating the start, apex and end keyframes of moving contrast agents for keyframe counting in X-ray coronary angiography (XCA) is very important for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. To locate these keyframes from the class-imbalanced and boundary-agnostic foreground vessel actions that overlap complex backgrounds, we propose long short-term spatiotemporal attention by integrating a convolutional long short-term memory (CLSTM) network into a multiscale Transformer to learn the segment-and sequence-level dependencies in the consecutive-frame-based deep features...

Langya virus (LayV) is a paramyxovirus in the Henipavirus genus, closely related to the deadly Nipah (NiV) and Hendra (HeV) viruses, that was identified in August 2022 through disease surveillance following animal exposure in eastern China. Paramyxoviruses present two glycoproteins on their surface, known as attachment and fusion proteins, that mediate entry into cells and constitute the primary antigenic targets for immune response. Here, we determine cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) structures of the uncleaved LayV fusion protein (F) ectodomain in pre- and postfusion conformations...

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM: Perforation within external root resorption (ERR) lesions dra-matically affects the prognosis of the involved roots. Failure to diagnose perforation under-mines treatment; therefore, early detection of these lesions is of great importance. The cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images and electronic apex locators (EAL) are reliably used to detect root perforations. PURPOSE: In this in vitro study, we compared the EAL findings with the results obtained by the CBCT images for the detection of perforations within ERR lesions...

We investigated the interference of apical constriction position and diameter on the accuracy of electronic apex locators using 3D-printed tooth models. Single-rooted tooth models with the same length, canal taper and major foramen, but variation in apical constriction position or size, were designed and 3D-printed. A mounting model was custom-made for precise measurement of both marks (0.5 and APEX/0.0) of two electronic apex locators. The electronic measurements of both devices were correlated significantly to the major foramen rather than apical constriction...

Dengue fever is a worldwide health problem transmitted mainly by Aedes albopictus. The ability of female mosquitoes to transmit disease depends on their behavioral responses to locate their host. The presence of different types of sensory sensilla with different morphological characteristics is the most distinctive feature of Ae. albopictus, in addition to the main sensory organs. The sensory sensilla are chemosensory contacts that Ae. albopictus uses to locate long-distance hosts and oviposition sites by receiving well-defined cues such as changes in temperature and humidity, mechanical impact, and odors...
