Those factors were built in in the aetiological picture (model) of the mandible joint disfunction which showed direct connection with the clinical and anamnestic data of the disfunction. Factors used for establishing the model: social situation, joint lesions, psychic factors, the general health condition, position anomalies of the teeth and tooth groups, tooth contact troubles, oral parafunctions. In forming the mandible joint disfunction hereditary joint factors and a tendency to oppression may also have a role...

The forming of the pathography is explained from several view points by the publications dealing with the aetiology of the mandible joint disfunction. One viewpoint emphasizes the role of teeth factors, another one stresses the significance of the mandible joint disfunction were examined in the course of statistical analyses, causality. For the epidemiologic examination of the mandible joint disfunction a questionary was worked out which was filled in by the examined persons, this followed by a clinical examination in which factors seemingly important concerning the development of the disease were examined...

The variables of the epidemiologic assessments concerned with the aetiology of the mandible joint disfunction were examined in the course of statistical analyses, in general, in their pairwise connections and possibly a multi-variable linear regression calculation was employed. In the course of the examination, for establishing the linear, empirically tested model of the aetiology of the mandible joint disfunction a new type statistical method, the LISREL (Linear Structural Relationship) method was employed...

The significance of orthodontic treatment in the aetiology of temporomandibular dysfunction continues to be a matter of controversy. However, the evidence of any association has been generally negative. This investigation involved the examination of a study group of 87 post-orthodontic patients, the average time out of all retention being 52 months. They were compared with an untreated control group. Signs and symptoms of temporomandibular disfunction were assessed for both groups. In only one instance, soft joint click, was there found to be a significant association between the treatment category and the occurrence of the symptom, there being a higher rate of soft clicks in the post-treatment group...

The authors emphasize the some functional characteristics of the Temporomandibular join, TMJ, and were made comparative study of the auscultatory and sphymografic techniques to TMJ examination. The findings shown that the auscultatory technique furnished important dates to preliminary diagnosis of the TMJ disfunction.

To identify subtypes of functional disorders of stomatognathic system is a valid aid in order to render an appropriate treatment plan and prognosis. A classification of neuromuscular disorders and internal derangements of TMJ proposed by Evaersole is reviewed. The data obtained on a sample of patients with disfunction are presented.

The mutilations of the dental arches for agenesia, extractions or trauma and because of ankylosis, caries can be the cause of the disorders of the stomatognatic system. These problems are in relation with the time of the disfunction, the skeletal type and the interarches relationship. The pathogenetic factors are secondary to the amount and the direction of the dislocations or the entrapment of the lower jaw. The treatment planning can provide the closure of the spaces or the reopening. These procedures are demonstrated by two treated cases with TMJ disorders...

The Author examines every complex mechanism which regulates the masticatory function. He calls the attention to the strict connection which exists between neuromuscular system and organic occlusion of determining a dysfunctional pathology. After examinating a group of 100 patients suffering from Tmj disfunction he shows every therapeutic possibility and the limits of the treatment only with the bite plane.

Two cases are reported on, both patients came to the clinic on the suspicion of temporo mandibular joint disfunction. Their complaints was caused by overdeveloped processus styloideus. After surgical removal of the processus styloideus the complaints ceased. In cases of seemingly temporo mandibular joint disfunction not improving on conventional treatment the possibility of the processus styloideus syndroma has to be considered.

TMJ noise is one of the main symptom of TMJ disfunction. In this study the opening and closing movement of the mouth in subjects conscious of TMJ noise was observed three dimensionally. The occlusal plane was used as the standard for these three dimensional measurements. Changes resulting from the use of splints were also observed. The results were as follows: 1. Compared with normal subjects, the maximum value of fluctuation in subjects with TMJ noise for each particular measurement during opening and closing was distributed over a wide area...

Occlusal dysfunction is explained on the light of neuromuscular theory. The emphasis is focused on the interaction of occlusion and posture, the way posture modifies occlusion and occlusion modifies posture. The author proposes to include occlusal dysfunction in the wider group of postural dysfunctions defining if this disfunction is originated in occlusal parameters or in postural conditions when the diagnosis is made.

Blink reflex time records were obtained from patients with temporomandibular joint disfunction (TMJD), before and after treatment with occlusal splint, since blink reflex time helps to study the trigeminal-facial functional relationship. Results suggest that the impaired sensory-motor function in the trigeminal-facial complex of TMJD patients, may return to normal latency values following such treatment.
