The objective of this article is to analyze some of the potentially lethal cardiac side effects of psychiatric drugs and to contribute with the necessary instruments to diagnose and treat them properly. Prolongation of the QT interval caused by most of antipsychotics is discussed, focusing on those drugs with greater risk: pimozide, thioridazine, ziprasidone and sertindole. The QT interval prolongation is a risk marker of arrhythmias like the torsade de pointes, a polymorphic arrhythmia that produces dizziness, syncope, ventricular fibrillation and sudden death...

The cardiovascular diseases are at present it firstly reason of death in the world and in Mexico, the detection of the syndrome ischemic coronary and his opportune and suitable treatment needs of diagnostic methods that they offer a result in the minor possible time. The study of coronary Angiotac possesses a high value predictive negatively, contributing the coronary anatomy, perfusion miocardic, function of the left and right ventricle, Scoreboard of calcium. Valuation of hemoductes and endoprosthesis. The method is not invasive, needs administration of contrast for intravenous route and betablockers and vasodilatation; for which the contribution of the professional nurses in the procedure is fundamental offers safety and quality attention to the patient during the study to obtain the ideal images that they allow to diagnose and stably...

COMPARATIVE STUDY
S Tadić, M Ristić
Investigation of two groups of patients was performed. Both male and female patients, 34 to 69 years old, in which extracorporeal circulation was established in the course of open heart and ascendental aorta surgeries were included in the investigation. The first group consisted of 20 patients with surgically revascularized miokard by triple venous grafts, and the second included 20 patients with partial replacement of ascendental aorta using synthetic dacron graft. It was concluded that extracorporeal circulation leads to a significant decrease of platelet count and agreability after surgery, as well as decrease of red blood cell count and hemoglobin and hematocrit value...

387 patients with cardiorespiratory pathology being under the influence of antiatherosclerotic diet were observed to have the positive dynamic of clinical picture of diseases, indices of microcirculatory channel and lipid spectrum of blood. Diet enrichment with polyunsaturated fatty acids omega-3 of sea origin favors the strengthening of corrected influence on lipid metabolism and microcirculatory state improving the miocard metabolism.

The endomyocardial biopsy is the best diagnostic procedure of the rejection in the cardiac transplant. In this paper we analize the more frequent findings observed in the biopsies and in the dead patient's hearts after a transplant. Due to the fact that the rejection' lesions have a focal distribution the biopsy has to contain at least four fragments. The diagnostic criteria for rejection was stablished since 1990. There are other lesions that can suppose a problem being the most frequent the ischemia, the infectious miocarditis and the Quilty effect...

The authors present the study of four children that manifested asymmetric hemiparesis with sudden onset, without consciousness loss. The diagnosis of striatocapsular infarction was confirmed by computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The clinical and neurological examination, and laboratorial results are discussed. Familial history of migraine was found in two of the patients. Migraine was diagnosed in two, mild head trauma, viral miocarditis and mitral valve prolapse in one. Left hemiparesis, with brachiofacial features in three, and brachial in one...

Dietary fatty acid fraction influence on heart composition is known and we have previously demonstrated a trans-fatty acid accumulation in heart. In this work we will verify trans-fatty acid effect on heart phospholipid fatty acid composition and miocardic mitochondrial respiratory activity under the influence of perfusion techniques in oxygenation and anoxic conditions. Results have pointed out, in group fed with 28% trans-fatty acid hydrogenated fat, a decreased mitochondrial functionality during perfusion in different oxygenation condition, probably correlated to different fatty acid composition of heart phospholipids...

The authors of this paper have explored the effects of intermittent hypoxia on the cell membrane and histochemical changes in the muscle cardiac tissue of the white rat. The animals have been exposed to the experimental conditions characteristic of 7.000 m of height above sea level and divided in three groups. The first one consisted of animals sacrificed immediately after the final exposition (first experimental group), in the second one there were animals sacrificed 24 hours after (the second experimental group), and the third group made animals sacrificed 7 days after the final exposition (the third experimental group)...

3 cases of suicide due to ingestion of 150, 200 and 4 gr. of paraquat, respectively, are presented. Two of them were brothers and agricultural industrialists, the other one was a farmer. The first two cases died 16 and 10 hours after intake. The farmer died 21 days after ingestion. All of them had progressive hypoxemia and renal failure the two brothers had heart conduction system glycemia (23 mg/dl) a few hours after ingestion. The postmortem study showed edema, hemorrhage and congestion of the lungs, alveolitis, fibrosis and lobar atelectasia; renal tubular necrosis adrenal necrosis; colestasia; hepatic steatosis focal miocarditis...

The authors have explored the effect of intermittent hypoxia in the cell membrane and histochemical changes in the cardiac muscle cells of the white rat. Every day the animals were exposed to experimental conditions characteristic of 7.000 m of high above sea level (first experimental group) and every odd day (second experimental group). Animals of the experimental groups were sacrificed immediately (first subgroup), 24 hours later (second subgroup) and 7 days after the final exposition (third subgroup). The hypoxical stress elicited the vacuolation of the cardiac muscle fibres of the subendocardiac layer of miocard which persisted, and did not reduce its number, intensity and extensity in the first experimental group, although it reduced its intensity and vacuoles size in the second experimental group, while in fuxinorrhagia which has been presented focally the intensity has been reduced in all the three subgroups of the first experimental group of animals...

Following the guide of the publications written by Weissler, Thomas, Ahmed, Perry, Buyukoztur, Rahimotola, the Authors have executed on 25 patients with results of the myocardic infarction a polygraphic examination, comparing the variations of the intervals of the systolic time (STI) with the modifications of the fraction of the ejection (Fe) and of the velocity of the circular fibres (Vcf), calculated with echocardiographic method. From the results obtained the Authors have concluded that there is a perfect correspondence among the alterated values of the isovolumetric contraction time (TCIV), preejection period (PEP), LVET/PEP, and the variations of the Fe and Vcf, and furthermore the amelioration obtained with the digitalis therapy are controlled justly with both the methods...

The phonomechanocardiographic parameters most closely associated with heart failure are reviewed and a critical judgement is made of the method. The conclusion is drawn that phonomechanocardiographic measurements help to establish approximate limits of functional normality in cases of moderate abnormality. When acute phonomechanocardiographic alterations appear following infection or toxic heart disease or the use of potentially cardiotoxic drugs, the diagnosis of miocarditis can be made on an objective basis...

Seroepidemiologic studies demonstrated that American Trypanosomiasis is highly prevalent among rural communities in Mexico. However, Chagas' disease seems to be a rarity. That could be a wrong concept. In just a few months 5 patients with epidemiological, clinical and immunologic evidence for Chagasic miocardiopathy or miocarditis were identified in our Institution. Their cardiologic findings have been discussed, as well as diagnostic approaches in different stages of the disease.
