Eating disorders (ED) are complex and damaging to health. They cause suffering similar to that of addictions. Although they share some similarities, eating disorders remain distinct from addictions. Fundamental differences emerge in binge eating and restrictive behaviors. Eating disorder treatment in adolescents relies mainly on family therapy and can incorporate a reflection on these similarities and differences. For instance, understanding the addictive nature of the illness helps parents and patients to avoid sterile negotiations around food...

People suffering from anorexia have a particular emotional and cognitive profile (altered body and self-perception, emotional dysregulation, perfectionism, obsessive traits), which the disorder can compensate for through emotional distancing strategies. Self-compassion and unconditional self-acceptance have been shown to have therapeutic effects on the barriers to recovery associated with this profile.

Due to intensive physical training, and the pressure exerted by coaches, parents and the athlete him/herself during pre-competitive and competitive periods, a large number of high-level sporting activities can trigger or participate in anorexia nervosa. That said, some of these activities are more likely than others to promote this eating disorder. It is worth highlighting the sports most at risk for the onset or development of anorexia nervosa, and then addressing the means of prevention and regulation adapted to these circumstances...

It manages, prevents or limits the consequences of this addictive pathology, based on the work carried out by a multi-professional team focusing on different areas: somatic, psychological, cognitive, social and family.

Although eating disorders are a public health issue, treating anorexia nervosa from a demographic and socio-economic perspective remains a challenge. Data are scarce, patchy and often of questionable quality. Such a lack of data on a somatopsychic illness with serious repercussions is a real problem, since reliable, longitudinal and detailed information could provide additional answers in understanding the illness, both in terms of age, sex and gender structure, and in terms of family, social and environmental factors...

Litchi (Litchi chinensis) is a widely consumed fruit that has been used in many food and health-promoting products worldwide. Litchi is a good source of nutrients including vitamin and minerals, dietary fibers, proteins, and carbohydrates. Of note, several studies have reported that the constituents of litchi fruits elicit antioxidant properties and help to maintain blood pressure, and reduce the risk of stroke and heart attack. An unclearly explained outbreak occurred in June 2019 in Muzaffarpur (Bihar), India resulted in the death of more than 150 children in a week, followed by a total of 872 cases and 176 deaths...

Between 30 and 50 % of very premature babies have disorders that can affect their schooling, training and future life. Their origin is often multifactorial, and environmental, socioeconomic and family factors can influence the subsequent development of these children. Among these factors, the neonatal environment, which is generally very noisy and bright, as well as the numerous tactile solicitations, have been blamed. In 1978, the kangaroo method transformed this reality by improving the parent-baby relationship and reducing neonatal mortality...

The management of anorexia nervosa (AN) remains complex with insufficient success rates. Based on clinical and empirical observations implicating neuropsychological difficulties in AN, cognitive remediation (CR) therapy appears to show positive effects. Nevertheless, these results remain subject to debate as some studies do not show this improvement, or in the case of positive improvements, a smaller effect size on cognitive performance. A possible explanation could lie in the cognitive tests used to assess CR...

OBJECTIVES: The recommended treatment for Eating Disorders (EDs) is multidisciplinary and multimodal. Nonetheless, the complex linkage of the different disciplines involved is not necessarily simple. We analyzed the experience of healthcare professionals faced with psychiatric and psychological symptoms in adolescents with EDs in two "multidisciplinary" inpatient units embedded predominantly in different paradigms - one pediatric and one psychiatric. METHODS: Qualitative analysis of 20 healthcare staff members' interviews from different professional backgrounds working in inpatient units for EDs in Montreal (Canada) and Paris (France)...

Physical Activity in the Prevention and Treatment of Eating Disorders Abstract. On the one hand, excessive or insufficient physical activity is a phenomenological feature and an important etiological factor in eating disorders. On the other hand, healthy and adaptive physical activity has the potential to support the effectiveness of preventive and therapeutic interventions for eating disorders. Research findings confirm the usefulness of interventions focusing on physical activity as an add-on to psychotherapy...

Anorexia nervosa is a psychiatric disorder that mainly affects women (sex ratio 1/10) and for which the prognosis remains poor (10% of deaths and high risk of chronicity). This disorder is associated with a risk of infertility explained by different physiopathological pathways. Thus, the clinical and subclinical forms of this disease may be over-represented in populations of women using medically assisted reproduction technologies. This raises the question of a narcissistic investment of the pregnancy, with a desire for pregnancy for what it brings to the woman...

Available evidence suggests an interest of psychoeducational groups in a significant number of psychiatric disorders. It is not usual to use care without consent in the management of eating disorders when the patient refuses the care indicated. Yet, these are psychiatric disorders responsible for a high mortality rate and a high risk of chronicity. Their management is complex, multidisciplinary and the refusal of care in the most severe cases raises ethical questions. It is important for the clinician to know the impact of these disorders, notably on the patient's cognitive and judgment capacities, in order to evaluate the necessity of implementing a restraint measure...

INTRODUCTION: Recent tendencies show a stabilization in Western countries of the incidence of anorexia nervosa but an increase in Asian countries where it used to be lower. The emergence of these diseases in non-Western countries suggests a culture change syndrome on an individual or societal scale. The great number of changes having occurred in China in the past decades would favor the occurrence of eating disorders. A variability of symptoms of eating disorders can be observed depending on the cultural background which also influences the treatment...

At the crossroads of social influences and the psychopathology of everyday life, orthorexis is a little-known concept. This obsession with a healthy diet with deleterious consequences raises questions of differential clinical evaluation. Case studies and clinical illustrations provide a better understanding of what some orthorexic people think, feel, do and experience in having these restrictive and deviant relationships to food.
