To evaluate the predictive value of the sFlt-1/PlGF ratio for the prediction of preeclampsia in women with preexisting diabetes mellitus. This is a monocentric retrospective observational study conducted between January 2018 and December 2020. All singleton pregnancies with preexisting diabetes mellitus, who had a dosage of the sFlt-1/PlGF ratio between 30 and 34 + 6 weeks of gestation were included. The principal outcome was preeclampsia. The secondary outcomes were preterm preeclampsia, gestational hypertension, placental abruption, intrauterine fetal death, IUGR, small for gestational age and a composite outcome named "hypertensive disorder of pregnancy" including gestational hypertension, preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome (hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes and low platelet count)...

OBJECTIVE: Conflicting evidence for the association between COVID-19 and adverse perinatal outcomes exists. This study examined the associations between maternal COVID-19 during pregnancy and adverse perinatal outcomes including preterm birth (PTB), low birth weight (LBW), small-for-gestational age (SGA), large-for-gestational age (LGA) and fetal death; as well as whether the associations differ by trimester of infection. DESIGN AND SETTING: The study used a retrospective Mexican birth cohort from the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS), Mexico, between January 2020 and November 2021...

INTRODUCTION: Gestational diabetes (GD) is a risk factor for neonatal hypoglycaemia (NH), but other factors can increase this risk. OBJECTIVES: To create a score to predict NH in women with GD. METHODS: Retrospective study of women with GD with a live singleton birth between 2012 and 2017 from the Portuguese GD registry. Pregnancies with and without NH were compared. A logistic regression was used to study NH predictors. Variables independently associated with NH were used to score derivation...

OBJECTIVES: Small-for-gestational-age (SGA) and large-for-gestational-age (LGA) births are major adverse birth outcomes related to newborn health. In contrast, the association between ambient air pollution levels and SGA or LGA births has not been investigated in Japan; hence, the purpose of our study is to investigate this association. METHODS: We used birth data from Vital Statistics in Japan from 2017 to 2021 and municipality-level data on air pollutants, including nitrogen dioxide (NO2 ), sulfur dioxide (SO2 ), photochemical oxidants, and particulate matter 2...

BACKGROUND: Prenatal exposure to ambient air pollution is linked to a higher risk of unfavorable pregnancy outcomes. However, the association between pregnancy complications and exposure to indoor air pollution remains unclear. The Air Pollution on Pregnancy Outcomes research is a hospital-based prospective cohort research created to look into the effects of aerodynamically exposed particulate matter (PM)10 and PM2.5 on pregnancy outcomes. METHODS: This prospective multicenter observational cohort study was conducted from January 2021 to June 2023...

BACKGROUND: Chronic lung disease (CLD) occurs frequently in preterm infants and is associated with respiratory morbidity. Bronchodilators have the potential effect of dilating small airways with muscle hypertrophy. Increased compliance and tidal volume, and decreased airway resistance, have been documented with the use of bronchodilators in infants with CLD. Therefore, bronchodilators are widely considered to have a role in the prevention and treatment of CLD, but there remains uncertainty as to whether they improve clinical outcomes...

IMPORTANCE: The 1980 and 1986 Swedish so-called speed premium policies aimed at protecting parents' income-based parental leave benefits for birth intervals shorter than 24 and 30 months, respectively, but indirectly encouraged shorter birth spacing and childbearing at older ages, both risk factors for several perinatal health outcomes. Whether those policy changes are associated with perinatal health remains unknown. OBJECTIVES: The safety and feasibility of human milk fortification with bovine colostrum (BC) were investigated in very preterm infants (FortiColos trial, NCT03537365). The BC product contained lower calcium, phosphate, and iron levels compared to the conventional fortifier (CF). We tested whether fortification with BC plus extra phosphate was sufficient to support the infants' mineral status assessed by blood biochemistry. METHODS: In a randomised controlled trial (FortiColos, NCT03537365), mineral status was compared after fortification with BC versus CF...

Listeria monocytogenes , a gram-positive bacillus and an intracellular pathogen, is an uncommon cause of illness in the general population. During pregnancy, a perinatal infection can lead to serious complications such as abortion, stillbirth, neonatal sepsis, and meningitis. We present two cases of neonatal meningitis caused by Christie, Atkins, Munch-Peterson (CAMP)-negative Listeria monocytogenes . In the first case, a seven-day-old female term neonate delivered vaginally, presented with high-grade fever and refusal to feed...

BACKGROUND: The Environmental Justice Index is a tool released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that quantifies and ranks the environmental burden and social vulnerability of each census tract. Racial and ethnic disparities in adverse pregnancy outcomes are well established. The relative contributions of individual (person-level) and environmental (neighborhood-level) risk factors to disease prevalence remain poorly understood. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to determine whether the Environmental Justice Index is associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes after adjustment for individual clinical and sociodemographic risk factors...

BACKGROUND: Frozen embryo transfer resulted in a higher birthweight and an increased risk of macrosomia than fresh embryo transfer. However, the mechanism was still unclear. When the impact of frozen embryo transfer on fetal growth began was unknown. Crown-rump length at 11-13 weeks had been regarded as a good indicator of fetal growth in the first trimester and had been used for gestational age calculation in women with uncertain last menstrual periods. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the association between frozen embryo transfer and early fetal growth, particularly the crown-rump length, then fresh embryo transfer...

BACKGROUND: In low-risk pregnancies, third trimester ultrasound examination is indicated if fundal height measurement and gestational age discrepancy is observed. Despite potential improvement in detection of ultrasound abnormality, prior trials to date on universal third trimester ultrasound examination in low-risk pregnancies, compared to indicated ultrasound examination, have not demonstrated improvement in neonatal or maternal adverse outcomes. OBJECTIVE: The primary objective was to determine if universal third trimester ultrasound examination in low-risk pregnancies could attenuate composite neonatal adverse outcome...
