The improvement of electrochemiluminescence (ECL) performance relies on the electron transfer efficiency between luminophore and coreactant. An ultrasensitive ECL micro-reactor with confinement-enhanced performance was prepared by using the covalent organic framework-LZU1-functionalized metal-organic framework (MOF@COF-LZU1) as a platform to assemble enormous N,N-dibutyl-2-hydroxyethylamine (DBAE) and tris(4,4'-dicarboxylic acid-2,2'-bipyridyl) ruthenium(II) [Ru(dcbpy)3 2+ ] into its pore channels. Compared to individual substances of γ-CD-MOF and COF-LZU1, the synergistic effects can conduce to the enhancement of the intensity, durability and sensitivity of the micro-reactor...

We developed a novel method to fabricate copper nanorods in situ in a poly(ether sulfone) (15 wt %) casting solution by a sonochemical reduction of Cu2+ ions with NaBH4 . The main twist is the addition of ethanol to remove excess NaBH4 through Cu(0) catalyzed ethanolysis. This enabled the direct use of the resulting copper-containing casting dispersions for membrane preparation by liquid nonsolvent-induced phase separation and led to full utilization of the copper source, generating zero metal waste. We characterized the copper nanorods as presented in the membranes via scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and UV/vis spectroscopy...

In order to realize the effective separation of palladium from high-level liquid waste (HLLW), a ligand-supported adsorbent (NTAamide(C8)/SiO2 -P) was prepared by the impregnation method in a vacuum. The SiO2 -P carrier was synthesized by in situ polymerization of divinylbenzene and styrene monomers on a macroporous silica skeleton. The NTAamide(C8)/SiO2 -P adsorbent was fabricated by impregnating an NTAamide(C8) ligand into the pore of a SiO2 -P carrier under a vacuum condition. The adsorption performance of NTAamide(C8)/SiO2 -P in nitric acid medium has been systematically studied...

A series of carbon black-supported 7.5 wt.% Pd-2.5 wt.% M/C (M: Ag, Ca, Co, Cu, Fe, Ni, Ru, Sn, Zn) electrocatalysts, synthesized via the wet impregnation method, and reduced at 300 °C, were compared in terms of their hydrogen oxidation reaction (HOR) activity in a 0.1 M KOH solution using the thin-film rotating-disk electrode technique. Moreover, 10 wt.% Pd/C and 10 wt.% Pt/C electrocatalysts were prepared in the same manner and used as references. BACKGROUND: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a disorder with abnormal changes in brain activity. The lack of objective indicators makes the assessment of PD progression difficult. Assessment of brain activity changes in PD may offer a potential solution. NEW METHOD: Electroencephalogram (EEG) microstates reflect global dynamic changes in the brain. Therefore, we utilized microstates to assess changes in PD brain activity. However, the effect of epoch duration on the reliability of microstate analyses in PD is unclear...

The important concept of confined synthesis is considered a promising strategy for the design and synthesis of definable nanostructured materials with controllable compositions and specific morphology, such as highly loaded single-atom catalysts capable of providing abundant active sites for photocatalytic reactions. In recent years, researchers have been working on developing new confined reaction systems and searching for new confined spaces. Here, we present for the first time the concept of a bubble liquid film as a novel confined space...

The novel photoswitchable ligand 3,3'-Azobenz(metPA)2 (1) is used to prepare a [Cu2(1)2](BF4)2 metallocycle (2), whose photoisomerization was characterized using static and time-resolved spectroscopic methods. Optical studies demonstrate the highly quantitative and reproducible photoinduced cyclic E/Z switching without decay of the complex. Accordingly and best to our knowledge, [Cu2(1)2](BF4)2 constitutes the first reversibly photoswitchable (3d)‑metallocycle based on azobenzene. The photoinduced multiexponential dynamics in the sub-picosecond to few picosecond time domain of 1 and 2 have been assessed...

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects approximately 1% of people over the age of 60 and 5% of those over the age of 85. Current drugs for Parkinson's disease mainly affect the symptoms and cannot stop its progression. Nanotechnology provides a solution to address some challenges in therapy, such as overcoming the blood-brain barrier (BBB), adverse pharmacokinetics, and the limited bioavailability of therapeutics. The reformulation of drugs into nanoparticles (NPs) can improve their biodistribution, protect them from degradation, reduce the required dose, and ensure target accumulation...

Nitrate pollution in surface water and ground water has drawn wide attention, which has brought challenges to human health and natural ecology. Electroreduction of nitrate to NH3 in waste water was a way to turn waste into wealth, which has attracted interest of many researchers. Using Nickel foam as substrate, we prepared Pd/In bimetallic electrode (NF-Pd/In) according to a two-step electrodeposition method. There are many irregularly shaped particles in the size range of 10 nm-100 nm accumulated on the surface of prepared NF-Pd/In electrode, which could supply high specific area and more active sites for nitrate electroreduction...

BACKGROUND: Peritoneal dialysis (PD) offers quality of life and empowerment for persons with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). Nevertheless, the prevalence of PD is low in Belgium and Europe in general. Reimbursement, patient mix and late referral have been quoted as underlying reasons. However, to date no one-size-fits-all solution increasing uptake of PD has been successfully implemented. We aimed to understand the nephrologist's perspective, beliefs, and experiences on dialysis modality selection and to clarify underlying process-level and intrinsic motivations steering final decisions...

PURPOSE: Most T1 and T2 mapping take long acquisitions or needs specialized sequences not widely accessible on clinical scanners. An available solution is DESPOT1/T2 (Driven equilibrium single pulse observation of T1/T2). DESPOT1/T2 uses Spoiled gradient-echo (SPGR) and balanced Steady-State Free Precession (bSSFP) sequences, offering an accessible and reliable way for 3D accelerated T1/T2 mapping. However, bSSFP is prone to off-resonance artifacts, limiting the application of DESPOT2 in regions with high susceptibility contrasts, like the prostate...

The development of hydrogen (H2 ) gas sensors is essential for the safe and efficient adoption of H2 gas as a clean, renewable energy source in the challenges against climate change, given its flammability and associated safety risks. Among various H2 sensors, gasochromic sensors have attracted great interest due to their highly intuitive and low power operation, but slow kinetics, especially slow recovery rate limited its further practical application. This study introduces Pd-decorated amorphous WO3 nanorods (Pd-WO3 NRs) as an innovative gasochromic H2 sensor, demonstrating rapid and highly reversible color changes for H2 detection...
