The transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) consist an alternative treatment in patients with severe aortic stenosis. Multimodality imaging using transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) or transesophageal echocardiography (TOE) and multislice CT (MSCT) constitute cornerstone techniques for the pre-operative management, peri-procedural guidance, follow up and recognition of possible transcatheter valve related complications. CT angiography is much more accurate regarding the total definition of aortic annulus diameter and circumferential area...

Kounis syndrome defined as the occurrence of acute coronary syndrome in the setting of allergic reaction due to mast cells activation and inflammatory mediators release that induces coronary vasospasm, plaque erosion, or even stent thrombosis. A 25-year-old postpartum female with asthma and recurrent episodes of chest pain was admitted with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction in the setting of coronary artery spasms. The patient was started on calcium channel blockers and nitrite-based medication with no improvement...

Kounis syndrome encompasses concepts including angina and allergic infarction described in relation to exposure to different allergens. The aim of this article is to describe a case of Kounis Syndrome type II after exposure to rocuronium as well as the patholophysiology and the treatment of this syndrome.

Kounis syndrome defined as the appearance of acute coronary syndrome in the context of an allergic reaction is a relatively rare phenomenon. There are three variants of this syndrome in which the patient presents with symptoms of an acute chest. Herein, we describe a case of an 83-year-old woman who demonstrated type I variant of Kounis syndrome in response to vancomycin administration. After initialisation of vancomycin, she became unresponsive and an ECG demonstrated ST changes consistent with inferior-lateral myocardial infarction...

An acute coronary syndrome (ACS) occurring during the course of an allergic reaction is called Kounis syndrome (KS). The second case of KS induced by diclofenac potassium (DP) is presented in this report. A 67-year-old man was brought to our emergency department with the possible diagnosis of anaphylactic shock by the ambulance staff. It emerged that widespread erythema and pruritus developed after taking DP. Then, he lost consciousness. Diffuse urticarial lesions were detected on physical examination at the emergency department...

Coronary vasospasm can result from silent myocardial ischaemia to sudden death. There are many precipitant factors including different pharmacological agents. Kounis syndrome is defined by acute coronary syndromes associated with anaphylactic or anaphylactoid reactions. We report, to the best of our knowledge, the first paediatric case of Kounis syndrome due to intravenous atropine.

Kounis syndrome, also known as allergic myocardial infarction or allergic angina syndrome, coincides with chest pain and allergic reactions. It involves the activation of interrelated inflammatory cells following allergic, anaphylactic or anaphylactoid insults. We report a case of Kounis syndrome complicated by an injection of ceftazidime. A 52-year-old man developed shortness of breath and hypotension, leading to immediate unconsciousness, after a ceftazidime injection. Despite intensive care management, he showed no improvement and died approximately 19 h after ceftazidime administration...

PURPOSE: To evaluate the visual, refractive, and topographic outcomes after combined transepithelial phototherapeutic keratectomy (PTK) and conventional photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) followed simultaneously by corneal crosslinking (CXL) for keratoconus. SETTING: Vardinoyiannion Eye Institute of Crete, Faculty of Medicine, University of Crete, Heraklion, Crete, Greece. DESIGN: Prospective case series. METHODS: Patients with progressive keratoconus had simultaneous conventional PRK followed by CXL; the corneal epithelium was removed using transepithelial PTK (Cretan protocol plus)...

Kounis syndrome is an allergic acute coronary syndrome. It occurs on healthy or pathological arteries. Its complications, although often benign, can lead to cardiac arrest and death. Its triggering factors are multiple and include contrast products used in diagnostic imaging. We report the case of an 81 years old patient affected by hepatocellular carcinoma, who presented a type 2 Kounis syndrome with inferior myocardial infarction, complicated by cardiac arrest related to complete heart block following a gadoteric acid injection...

There have been multiple reports of allergic reactions associated with acute coronary syndromes. This has been classically described as Kounis syndrome. We present an unusual case of 70-year-old male with multiple prior hypersensitivity reactions and history of coronary artery bypass grafting who presented recurrent episode of severe angioedema and anaphylaxis. He responded to epinephrine but subsequently developed a non-ST elevation myocardial infarction with worsening heart failure. Our case is unique in that, unlike classic Kounis syndrome, the acute coronary event in this case did not present concurrently with the allergic reaction; rather it took nearly 48 hours to present...

A 45-year-old previously healthy man with minimal coronary artery disease on imaging presented with an acute MI after sustaining a wasp sting following previous non-eventful exposures throughout his life. This is the first case of Kounis syndrome with optical coherence tomography imaging and proven IgE wasp venom hypersensitivity. The Hymenoptera venom is composed of allergenic proteins and vasoactive amines which are responsible for venom toxicity. This patient also has a history of atopy giving a predisposition for developing IgE-mediated allergic reactions...

BACKGROUND: Anaphylaxis is an acute, potentially fatal medical emergency. Myocardial injury or infarction in the setting of an anaphylaxis can be due the anaphylaxis itself, when it is known as Kounis syndrome or it can also be due to the effect of epinephrine treatment. Epinephrine is considered as the cornerstone in management of anaphylaxis. Myocardial infarction secondary to therapeutic doses of adrenaline is a rare occurrence and only a few cases have been reported in literature...
