The Filshie method is a tubal occlusion method commonly used to prevent pregnancy. This report adds to the small, but significant, literature base describing late complications following laparoscopic sterilisation. In women with recalcitrant peri-anal sepsis (who have previously undergone a sterilisation procedure) the possibility of tubal clip migration should be borne in mind. A 83-year-old woman came to our hospital with fever up to 38.5 degrees C, abdominal pain and jaundice. She had undergone a cholecystectomy for symptomatic gallstones in 1992. The endoscopic retrograde cholangiography showed a dilated common bile duct with a free floating surgical clip with stone formation around this foreign body. BACKGROUND: The combination ascites, pleural effusion, and elevated CA 125 are usually associated with a malignancy. CASE: A 38-year-old SLE patient consulted her physician for shortness of breath.
