Background: Depression and vulvodynia are often comorbid. The onset of depression and vulvodynia may be immune and/or stress/environmentally induced. We explored whether vulvodynia, depression, or both occur in response to a Th1-mediated versus Th2-mediated immune response. Materials and Methods: We analyzed data from a case-control study of clinically confirmed vulvodynia and history of depression determined through structured clinical interviews. Immune dysregulation and inflammation were categorized based on the following self-reported conditions: rheumatoid arthritis, Sjogren's disease, scleroderma, systemic lupus erythematosus, inflammatory bowel disease, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, polycystic ovarian syndrome, diabetes mellitus, uterine fibroids, asthma, atopic dermatitis, and allergic rhinitis...

Rheumatic diseases encompass a wide range of conditions characterised by joint inflammation and pain, significantly impacting individuals' quality of life. Articular syndrome, manifested through joint-related symptoms such as pain, swelling, and reduced mobility, is a common feature of rheumatic diseases. This study aimed to analyze articular syndrome's structure, demography, and medico-social characteristics in rheumatic diseases.  We retrieved case notes of 370 patients examined in 2019-2021 at the Rheumatology Department of the Regional Clinical Hospital, Shymkent, Kazakhstan...

Background: Pediatric dentists face difficulties in treating tooth decay of children with difficulty in opening the mouth. This is especially true, as the main disease is accompanied by such symptoms as arthritis, osteoarthritis, myositis, myalgia, sclerosis, and oral atrophy. Aim: The aim was to increase the level of treatment of fissure tooth decay for children with rheumatic diseases, using the silicone key method (SKM). Materials and Methods: A dental examination of 82 children was carried out, with diagnoses: systemic lupus erythematosus, juvenile systemic scleroderma, juvenile dermatomyositis, and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis...

Metformin is a first-line therapeutic agent for type 2 diabetes. Apart from its glucose-lowering effect, metformin is attracting interest regarding possible therapeutic benefits in various other conditions. As metformin regulates cell metabolism, proliferation, growth, and autophagy, it may also modulate immune cell functions. Given that metformin acts on multiple intracellular signaling pathways, including adenosine monophosphate (AMP)-activated protein kinase (AMPK) activation, and that AMPK and its downstream intracellular signaling control the activation and differentiation of T and B cells and inflammatory responses, metformin may exert immunomodulatory and anti- inflammatory effects...

UNLABELLED: Instrumental physiotherapeutic treatment using portable devices is optimal for patients with rheumatic diseases due to the devices' greater accessibility. However, there are still issues concerning the efficacy of physical factors generated by portable equipment in osteoarthritis (OA), mostly due to the limited evidence. OBJECTIVE: To study the efficacy and safety of long-term use of the portable magnet therapy device ALMAG+ ( Almag Active ) in knee OA (KOA)...

This study aims to investigate the global public interest in rheumatoid arthritis by evaluating search term popularity changes of the disease over a decade. Google Trends was applied to retrieve search popularity scores for the term 'rheumatoid arthritis' between January 2004 and December 2017, utilizing the category of "health". Overall, relative searches volume for rheumatoid arthritis steadily decreased from January 2004 to December 2010, and then slowly rose from January 2011 to December 2017. There were significant seasonal variations in relative searches volume for the term 'rheumatoid arthritis' (Amplitude = 3...

Guidelines or recommendations help to provide uniform standards in medical practice. The development of guidelines requires adherence to pre-defined norms prescribed by different international organizations such as the European League against Rheumatism (EULAR). We searched Pubmed and LILACS to identify published papers in five major rheumatic diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, spondyloarthropathies, osteoarthritis, and scleroderma) from different countries based on their economic prosperity and could find a lack of published literature from most economically weaker regions...

EQ-5D is becoming the preferred instrument to measure health-state utilities involved in health technology assessment. The objective of this study is to assess the state of EQ-5D research in musculoskeletal disorders in 8 Central and Eastern European countries and to provide a meta-analysis of EQ-5D index scores. Original research articles published in any language between Jan 2000 and Sept 2016 were included, if they reported any EQ-5D outcome from at least two musculoskeletal patients from Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, or Slovenia...

Fatigue is a common, disabling, and difficult-to-manage problem in rheumatic diseases. Prevalence estimates of fatigue within rheumatic diseases vary considerably. Data on the prevalence of severe fatigue across multiple rheumatic diseases using a similar instrument is missing. Our aim was to provide an overview of the prevalence of severe fatigue across a broad range of rheumatic diseases and to examine its association with clinical and demographic variables. Online questionnaires were filled out by an international sample of 6120 patients (88 % female, mean age 47) encompassing 30 different rheumatic diseases...
