Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a common sexually transmitted virus that can cause cervical cancer and other diseases. Dynamic transmission models (DTMs) have been developed to evaluate the health and economic impacts of HPV vaccination. These models typically include many parameters, such as natural history of the disease, transmission, demographic, behavioral, and screening. To ensure the accuracy of DTM projections, it is important to parameterize them with the best available evidence. This study aimed to identify and synthesize data needed to parametrize DTMs on the natural history of HPV infection and related diseases...

UNLABELLED: Streptococcus pyogenes causes a variety of human infections, and hospital outbreaks with this pathogen have also been reported. The purpose of this study is to describe the clinical characteristics of an outbreak of S. pyogenes involving 15 patients and four healthcare workers (HCWs), as well as the molecular characteristics of the causative isolates. The course and response to the outbreak were reviewed, and information on the characteristics of the patients was extracted retrospectively from the medical records...

BACKGROUND: High-risk Human Papillomavirus (HPV) genotypes are found in malignant oral epithelial lesions, and HPV infection is proposed as a risk factor for initiating Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) in the head and neck region. This study suggests a practical approach to detect HPV in HPV-associated oral epithelial dysplasia (HAOED). METHODS: Fifty-four oral epithelial dysplasia specimens were examined, comprising twenty-seven cases diagnosed with high-grade dysplasia and twenty-seven cases diagnosed with low-grade dysplasia using a binary grading system...

BACKGROUND: Ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme 2T (UBE2T) has been reported to be associated with uncontrolled cell growth and tumorigenesis in multiple cancer types. However, the understanding of its regulatory role in the carcinogenesis of Head And Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma (HNSC) is limited. METHODS: UBE2T expression in HNSC patient samples and the correlation between its expression and patients' survival rates were evaluated using The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database...

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is the sixth most common malignancy worldwide. Smoking, drinking, and human papillomavirus (HPV) infection are the main risk factors. Early-stage patients can benefit from radical surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, but the prognosis of locally advanced, recurrent, or metastatic patients is poor. Programmed cell death receptor 1 (PD-1) inhibitor significantly prolongs the survival of these patients, but only about 20 % of the population can benefit significantly...

It can cause pyogenic infections in various organs, primarily in the head and neck area, including brain abscesses and meningitis. However, ventriculitis due to periodontitis has not been reported previously. OBJECTIVE: To study the distribution of pathogenic Aspergillus strains of otomycosis in central China and the identification of their antifungal sensitivity. METHODS: We collected external ear canal secretions clinically diagnosed as otomycosis from April 2020 to January 2023 from the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery in central China. The pathogenic Aspergillus strains were identified through morphological examination and sequencing. The antifungal sensitivity was performed using the broth microdilution method described in the Clinical Laboratory Standard Institute document M38-A3...

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) represents the primary subtype of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), characterized by a high morbidity and mortality rate. Although previous studies have established specific correlations between euchromatic histone lysine methyltransferase 2 (EHMT2), a histone lysine methyltransferase, and the malignant phenotype of OSCC cells, its biological functions in OSCC remain largely unknown. This study, grounded in bioinformatics predictions, aims to clarify the influence of EHMT2 on the malignant behavior of OSCC cells and delve into the underlying mechanisms...

Primary objective is to find the anatomical factor for unilateral abscess formation and appropriate management protocols. Secondary objectives include the bacteriological study, antibiotic preference and comparison of crypt length of both tonsils post tonsillectomy to look for any significant association. A prospective study was carried out for one year in patients with peritonsillitis or peritonsillar abscess attending the Department of ENT in our hospital...

Coronavirus disease 2019 attributed to severe acute respiratory syndrome has been implicated with life threatening opportunistic infections like mucormycosis. COVID-19 is a hyperferritinemic syndrome and emerging data project the role of iron in the susceptibility and pathogenesis of mucormycosis but whether high ferritin is an indicator of severity of mucormycosis is debated. The study aimed to determine the relationship between serum ferritin levels and the extent of involvement of COVID-19 associated mucormycosis...

Extranodal natural killer T-cell lymphoma, nasal type (ENKTCL), is a rare form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma that is strongly related to Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) infection and commonly presents as "midline lethal granuloma." Herein, we report a middle-aged lady who presented with a two-week history of fever, sore throat and constitutional symptoms. Intraoral examination revealed a lacerated soft palate with an ulcerated uvula. The primary function of nasal packs is to modulate the bleeding, prevent adhesions and obstruction, with least discomfort to the subjects without risking secondary infection. However, both packing and removal of the pack is an unpleasant experience, with the latter being extremely painful. Therefore the need of the hour is a dressing which prioritizes subject comfort without compromising other desired nasal pack properties. Twenty subjects were enrolled in this interventional, open label study. The subjects had 10 hospital visits, starting from baseline (Visit 1) to postoperative day 28 (Visit 10), at regular intervals...

Pseudoaneurysm of the internal carotid artery following otogenic infection is rare but leads to catastrophic outcomes. The study spanned three years, commencing in 2019 and concluding in 2022, examining a patient cohort of 400 individuals. Utilizing a retrospective cohort methodology, the participants were systematically stratified into two cohorts: those subjected to steroid nebulization ( n  = 200) and a control group ( n  = 200)...

Peri-apical infection is a prevalent form of odontogenic infection, typically following the path of least resistance through cancellous bone towards the cortical plate. This infection begins as cellulitis and may progress to an abscess, sometimes involving various anatomically potential spaces. While frontal space infection is a rare complication of odontogenic infection spread, it can occur in conjunction with buccal space, sub-mental space, and orbital space involvement. In this report, we present the case of a 62-year-old man with a history of tooth pain and diabetes mellitus for the past decade...
