Primary gastric inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor is a rare neoplasm developed from mesenchymal stem cells, infrequently discussed in the scientific literature. Clinical diagnosis through endoscopy and pathology is challenging for the medical team. We report the case of a female patient with gastric obstruction syndrome due to a 10 cm tumor diagnosed with this disease by histology and immunohistochemistry. INTRODUCTION: Complex polyps require the use of advanced endoscopic techniques or minimally invasive surgery for their approach. In rectal polyps it is of special relevance to reach a consensus on the best approach to avoid under- or overtreatment that increases unnecessary morbidity and mortality. METHODS: We describe a prospective, multicenter, pilot clinical trial with a first-in-human medical device. It is hypothesized that UNI-VEC® facilitates transanal laparoendoscopic surgery for the removal of early rectal tumors...

INTRODUCTION: Endoscopic resection offers advantages over surgical resection for early colorectal cancer (ECC). However, there might be a presumed risk of recurrence. We aimed to determine the risk of recurrence after endoscopic removal of ECC. METHODS: A single-centre series of endoscopic resections for ECC. Patients were stratified according to four risk factors: positive resection margins, Haggitt 4, lymphatic/vascular invasion and tumour budding. RESULTS: We included 127 patients...

INTRODUCTION AND AIMS: Currently there is no ideal diagnostic/therapeutic approach for patients with suspected choledocholithiasis. The primary aim of our study was to evaluate the performance of the criteria for predicting choledocholithiasis proposed by the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) in 2019. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted that included 352 patients seen at a secondary care public healthcare institution in Monterrey, Nuevo León, that treats an open population and does not have endoscopic ultrasound or magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography at its disposal...

INTRODUCTION: Out of operating room sedation with propofol by non-anaesthesiologists (Non Anaesthesiologist Administration of Propofol: NAAP) is a growing practice. This is due to the increase in minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures requiring sedation, and the difficulty of anaesthesiology services to respond adequately to this demand. OBJECTIVE: The main objective of this study is to assess the safety of a programme of nurse sedationist-administered target controlled infusion (TCI) of propofol in colonoscopies supervised by anaesthesiologists...

INTRODUCTION AND AIMS: Endoscopy is the most effective method for identifying gastric adenocarcinoma (GAC). Interval gastric cancer (IGC) is GAC that is diagnosed 2-3 years after a normal endoscopy. Its characteristics are unknown in the Colombian environment. The clinical, histopathologic, and endoscopic characteristics were evaluated, along with the presentation rate, proton pump inhibitor (PPI) use, and IGC survival rate, and compared with other types of GAC. METHODS: A retrospective, analytic study was conducted on a prospective cohort...

OBJECTIVE: Data regarding early (within 24h) and urgent endoscopy (within 12h) in non-variceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding (NV-UGIB) revealed conflicting results. This study aimed to investigate the impact of endoscopy timing on the outcomes of high-risk patients with NV-UGIB. PATIENTS AND METHODS: From February 2020 to February 2021, consecutive high-risk (Glasgow-Blatchford score ≥12) adults admitted to the emergency department with NV-UGIB were analyzed retrospectively...

However, normal values for the Eos count in the stomach and duodenum in pediatric patients are still limited. Introduction: In relation to the nasopharynx swab samples, necessary to identify SARS-CoV-2, various problems have been reported, such as: delays in viral identification, high percentages of false negative PCR and viral presence in asymptomatic patients. This, and because the swab is performed without intranasal vision, suggests the need to improve the process of obtaining the nasopharyngeal swab sample, the most important step in viral identification. Description: Because nasal endoscopy is a procedure that provides direct visualization of intranasal structures; We propose its use to support laboratory personnel in obtaining the nasopharyngeal swab, allowing to improve the quality of the sample, with greater possibilities of early viral identification in COVID-19 patients...

Introduction: Colloid cysts are histologically benign lesions, probably derived from the endoderm, which represent 0.3-2% of brain tumors. They are usually attached to the roof of the third ventricle in direct relation to the foramen of Monro, which can cause a blockage to the circulation of cerebrospinal fluid, determining hydrocephalus and in some cases sudden death. Other more common symptoms are headache, nausea and vomiting, blurred vision, gait ataxia, and cognitive impairment. Treatment options include microsurgery, endoscopy, stereotaxic casting, or cerebrospinal fluid shunts for the treatment of hydrocephalus...

The term cholestasis refers to bile acid retention, whether within the hepatocyte or in the bile ducts of any caliber. Biochemically, it is defined by a level of alkaline phosphatase that is 1.67-times higher than the upper limit of normal. Cholestatic diseases can be associated with an inflammatory process of the liver that destroys hepatocytes (hepatitis), withjaundice (yellowing of the skin and mucus membranes, associated with elevated serum bilirubin levels), or with both, albeit the three concepts should not be considered synonymous...

INTRODUCTION AND AIMS: Surgical or endoscopic treatments play an essential role in the management of achalasia. The probability of adverse events in the performance of said treatments is a relevant aspect, when establishing the risk-benefit balance. The present study aimed to establish the association between serious adverse events and the performance of those procedures, in adult patients with achalasia. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A systemic search of randomized and nonrandomized clinical trials, retrospective cohorts, and cases series on adult patients with achalasia that underwent laparoscopic Heller myotomy (LHM), peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM), or endoscopic balloon dilation, that reported serious adverse events, was carried out on the Medline, CENTRAL, and EBSCO databases...

AIM: To describe the decrease in the risk for mortality, rebleeding, and red blood cell transfusion, with the performance of urgent EGD, in patients with nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding. Technology is one of the pillars of surgery in the 21st century and is a key factor in achieving better surgical results. The current surgical process involves not only surgical techniques, but also a very high degree of specialisation and the knowledge and use of techniques and devices from other fields. In Spain, there are no studies published at a national level in this regard. From the Minimally Invasive Surgery and Technological Innovation section of the Spanish Association of Surgeons we have designed a study whose main objective is to evaluate the degree of technological implantation in the specialty of General Surgery in Spain, as well as to analyze the devices available in the different centres of the country...

Obesity is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Sedation of the procedure for these patients can pose significant challenges. Conscious sedation is the cause of many potentially serious unplanned events during endoscopy. A case report of sedation with propanidid in a patient with super obesity for endoscopic procedure is presented. Propanidid has demonstrated its safety and efficacy in short procedures in obese people.

Kartagener's syndrome (KS) is a rare genetic disease characterised by the triad of sinusitis, bronchiectasis, and situs inversus. This syndrome is associated with an increased risk of respiratory complications. Therefore, both the anaesthetic technique and the agents used must be carefully chosen according to the type of intervention and the patient's baseline condition. We present the case of a 48-year-old woman with KS, scheduled for functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) and septoplasty under general anaesthesia...
