Pachymeningitis is a rare cause of headache characterized by dura mater thickening with various origins. We present a 67-year-old male with cranial and spinal pachymeningitis and MPO-ANCA-associated vasculitis, which is considered as the cause of pachymeningitis of this patient. After revision of other 32 reported cases, our study suggested cranial and spinal pachymeningitis could be a manifestation of ANCA-associated vasculitis. Thus, it is important to screen other manifestations of ANCA-associated vasulitis as soon as pachymeningitis was suspected...

Takayasu arteritis is a systemic vasulitis of large vessels that mainly involves the aorta and its branches. It normally presents in third decade of life and has rarely been reported in children under 10 years of age. We report here a case of Takayasu arteritis in a 5 years old girl who presented with headache, generalized body swelling, severe hypertension, proteinuria and minimal functioning kidneys. Conventional angiography demonstrated narrowing of descending aorta, right subclavian artery and right common iliac artery...

The skin not only represents the organ which often reveals the first signs of systemic vasculitis, but also the organ which is most frequently involved in vasculitis. These diseases encompass systemic vasculitides and those which appear to involve the skin only. Among those vasculitides restricted to the skin, some are yet typically associated with other systemic diseases, such as nodular vasculitis, which often occurs during infections by M. tuberculosis, or erythema elevatum diutinum in patients with gammopathy...

Myxosporean parasites Cystodiscus axonis and C. australis are pathogens of native and exotic Australian frog species. The pathology and ecological outcomes of infection with these parasites were investigated in this study. Gliosis was correlated to Cystodiscus axonis plasmodia in the brains of (9/60) tadpoles and (3/9) adult endangered Green and golden bell frogs using ordinal regression. Severe host reactions to C. axonis (haemorrhage, necrosis, and vasulitis) were observed in the brains of threatened Southern bell frogs (8/8), critically endangered Booroolong frogs (15/44) and Yellow spotted bell frogs (3/3)...

Churg-Strauss syndrome (CSS) or allergic granulomatosis angiitis is a rare primary vasculitic disease. CSS can be diagnosed by the presence of any four or more of the six criteria, which include asthma, eosinophilia greater than 10%, paranasal sinusitis, pulmonary infiltration, histological proof of vasculitis and mono- or poly-neuropathy. We report here on a 45-year-old male who developed erythematous macules, papules and hemorrhagic vesicles on both right extremities along with a tingling sensation and sacral pain...

The aim of the present study was to determine HLA DRB1* genotype by PCR-RFLP analysis in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (N = 122) associated with extra-articular manifestations (N = 24). A significant increased of DRB1* 0405 was found in RA patients with extra-cellular involvement (odd-ratio = 8.33, confidence interval = 1.44 - 56.7). In patients with RA, HLA DRB1*0405 allele might constitute a susceptibility marker of extra-articular involvement such as vasulitis or cardio-pulmonary manifestations.
