Healthy eating (HE) and pro-eating disorder (pro-ED) websites are popular sources of dietary and weight loss information, social support, and lifestyle inspiration. However, the discursive styles and language used by authors/moderators and users of these two site genres have not been widely studied or compared. Forty-three HE websites and twenty-four pro-ED websites were analysed using Fairclough's model of critical discourse analysis. Findings indicate that sites share common characteristics in terms of power relations played out by authors, 'successful' dieters, and those attending these sites...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Driving retirement can be a necessary but challenging and emotionally complex transition, especially for people living with dementia. This pilot study evaluated the utility of CarFreeMe™-Dementia (CFM™-D), a telehealth intervention providing tailored education and social support to those living with dementia and their care partners, as they prepare for or adjust to driving retirement. Delivered by empathetic health professionals, CFM™-D is a person-centric, flexible program tailored to address challenges specific to the participants' driving retirement stage and individualized contexts...

BACKGROUND: Medical students' transition to internship has a discernible gap in structured preparation, particularly in practical skill application. We introduced the internship preparatory clinical course (IPCC) to address this gap.  Methods: The course was conducted at the clinical skills and simulation center at King Saud University Medical City and included a total of eight skills distributed across four stations. It employs a timed-station methodology, inspired by the Observed Structured Clinical Examination, but innovatively adapted as a teaching method...

AIM: To explore home-dwelling people with dementia and family members' perceptions of the feasibility and acceptability of an intervention using dementia-related literature excerpts to facilitate conversations on ethical issues related to living with dementia. BACKGROUND: Ethical issues in dementia care emerge throughout the illness. In the early stages, they may involve decisions about disclosing the illness to the family, shifting roles and responsibilities, and considerations of transitioning to a nursing home...

Young adults with childhood-onset rheumatic diseases are more frequently establishing and continuing care with adult rheumatologists. The transfer of care can be challenging for both the young adult patients and their adult rheumatologists, in large part due to differences between pediatric-onset rheumatic diseases and their adult-onset counterparts, or due to the rarity of some pediatric-onset rheumatic conditions. Other challenges are due to cultural differences between pediatric and adult medical care and to the young adult needing to increasingly perform self-management skills that were previously managed by parents or other caregivers...

Music can be used as a therapeutic tool with people suffering from complex addictions and traumas. By playing together, the patient and care team create a transitional space conducive to emotional attunement and trust. This shared experience facilitates connection and engagement in the therapeutic relationship, which conveys a sense of security. Music is a powerful tool in the treatment of addiction and trauma. It helps to repair damaged bonds and develop empathy, cooperation and creativity within the care team...

BACKGROUND: Transitions of care (TOC) is the coordination and continuity of healthcare as a patient transfers between different settings.1 This can include a wide range of services, such as medication reconciliation, patient counseling, bedside delivery of medications, and others that meet individual patient needs.2 In the pediatric population, patients are at increased risk of potential medication errors and subsequent harm due to reduced patient and/or caregiver health literacy, limited dosage form availability, and errors in medication administration...

Biologics targeting IgE, IL-5, IL-4/IL-13, and TSLP are crucial in severe asthma treatment. Research, including randomized controlled trials and real-world studies, has been conducted to assess their efficacy and identify patient characteristics that may predict positive responses. The effectiveness of switching biologics, especially given overlaps in treatment eligibility, and the clinical outcomes post-cessation are critical areas of investigation. This work reviews the effects of switching between these biologics and the indicators of treatment success or failure...

The passing of the years of life physiologically leads to the accumulation of changes in tissues in the oral cavity, influencing dentition, chewing and swallowing mechanisms, and the oral microbiota. Some diseases and medications can aggravate oral symptoms and negatively influence eating behaviours, increasing the likelihood of becoming malnourished. This could make older individuals more vulnerable to complications when undergoing major orthopaedic surgery. Hidden infection foci in the oral cavity are a recognised cause of post-operative periprosthetic joint infections...

Background: Indolent T cell lymphoproliferation of the gastrointestinal tract is a novel entity recently added to the 2016 WHO classification of lymphoid neoplasms. Classically, these patients demonstrate an immunophenotype consistent with T cell proliferation and can be either CD4-positive or CD8-positive but with a low Ki67 index, highlighting the indolent nature of this disease compared to its more aggressive T cell lymphoma counterparts such as enteropathy-associated T cell lymphoma and monomorphic epitheliotropic intestinal T cell lymphoma...

BACKGROUND: The increased survival rate among individuals with CHD has sparked interest in their transition to adult healthcare. Although there is a general agreement on the importance of transition interventions, the empirical evidence supporting them is insufficient. Therefore, this study aimed to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of transition interventions for adult healthcare in adolescents and young adults. METHODS AND RESULTS: A literature search was conducted for studies comparing the quantitative effects of transition interventions with control groups, published up to March 15, 2023, in major databases (CENTRAL, Embase, PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL, KISS, and KMbase), major clinical trial registries, academic journal sites related to the topic, and grey literature databases...
