The topic of 24-hour management of COPD is related to day-to-night symptoms management, specific follow-up and patients' adherence to therapy. COPD symptoms strongly vary during day and night, being worse in the night and early morning. This variability is not always adequately considered in the trials. Night-time symptoms are predictive of higher mortality and more frequent exacerbations; therefore, they should be a target of therapy. During night-time, in COPD patients the supine position is responsible for a different thoracic physiology; moreover, during some sleep phases the vagal stimulation determines increased bronchial secretions, increased blood flow in the bronchial circulation (enhancing inflammation) and increased airway resistance (broncho-motor tone)...

PURPOSE: To describe the clinical presentation, treatment, and outcome of patients with histiocytic lesions of the orbit. The autors examined the presence and determined numerical density of eosinophilic leukocytes in tumor's stormal and host reaction in twenty routine preparated skin biopsies of basal and squamos cell carcinomas. The presence of eosiophilic leukocytes in squamous cell carcinomas, in stormal and adjacent tumor infiltrate were confirmed, so as the absance on the same localizations in basal cell carcinomas were found. A 73-year-old man who presented with acute fever, drowsiness and confusion was reported. Two weeks prior to admission, he attended the Outpatient Department with symptoms of fever and headache for 2 weeks. Eosiophilic meningitis was initially diagnosed, which, in fact, was lymphocytic CSF pleocytosis. He was treated with a high dose of prednisolone. A case of prurigo and lichenified plaques successfully treated with proton pump inhibitor is presented. She presented with pruritic eruptions, which showed marked lichenification and prurigo nodules, on her trunk and extremities. She had been treated with steroid ointment and H1-histamine receptor antagonist without success. Laboratory examinations revealed increased eosiophils and elevated lactate dehydrogenase. Eosinophilic granuloma is an unusual lesion which is thought to be a reticulo-endothelial hyperplasia of the bone and which is most frequently encountered in children. A 23-year-old woman from the French Antilles was successfully treated for intestinal and hepatic schistosomiasis, as evidenced by the normalization of immunofluorescence titers and many negative histogogical controls.
