Glioma-associated oncogene 1 ( GLI1 ) alterations have been described in pericytoma with t(7;12), gastroblastoma, plexiform fibromyxoma, and an emerging class of GLI1 -rearranged or amplified mesenchymal neoplasms including "nested glomoid neoplasm". The immunophenotype of these tumor types is nonspecific, making some cases difficult to diagnose without sequencing. The utility of GLI1 immunohistochemistry (IHC) in distinguishing nested glomoid neoplasms and pericytomas with t(7;12) from morphologic mimics is unknown...

The ileocolic region is the most common site of intussusception. It occurs mostly in children but can also occur in adults. Ileal tumors and polyps can cause ileocolic intussusception. Inflammatory fibroid polyp (IFP) is one of the rarest benign tumors of the gastrointestinal tract. The most common sites of IFP are the stomach, ileum, colon, duodenum, and esophagus. Small IFPs can be managed endoscopically but larger IFPs and those with complications such as intussusception require surgical resection. We report a case of ileal IFP presenting with small bowel obstruction due to ileocolic intussusception...

The objective of this study was to evaluate prevalence of chronic endometritis in a cohort of patients with retained pregnancy tissue (RPT) following miscarriage, with and without a history of recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL). In a cohort of our single academic fertility centre, we evaluated women with unexplained RPL (two or more losses) without evidence of RPT and women undergoing hysteroscopic resection of RPT following miscarriage. Endometrial samples underwent staining with H and E and CD138. A pathologist blinded to patient history recorded the number of plasma cells per 10 high power fields (HPF) and the presence or absence of endometrial stromal changes...

Inflammatory fibroid polyp (IFP) is a rare clinically benign mesenchymal tumor originating in the submucosa of the gastrointestinal tract. It has been generally considered to bear no malignant or metastatic potential and can be cured after resection. Herein, we present an unusual case of an IFP in the ileum showing extension to the muscularis propria and recurring in 3 years after endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) and surgical resection. A 41-year-old woman was admitted to the emergency department due to abdominal pain, abdominal distention, and vomit for 4 days...

Intussusception in adults is a relatively uncommon occurrence for a cause of bowel obstruction, which can present acutely, chronically or in an acute on chronic fashion. It is clinically concerning because of the possibility of cancer acting as a lead point. Small bowel tumours are rare, mostly detected incidentally with small bowel obstruction. Inflammatory fibroid polyp (IFP) is a rare benign tumour of the small bowel, either detected incidentally on imaging or endoscopy carried out for other reasons, or presents with acute features...

Inflammatory fibroid polyp (IFP) is a rare, usually solitary and intraluminal polypoid benign tumour that can affect any part of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Its aetiology is unknown and clinical presentation depends on the site of involvement. We present the case of a 12-month-old girl with IFP and review all reported cases of IFP in children and adolescents <18 years. A 12-month-old girl presented with rectal bleeding. The patient underwent colonoscopy which revealed an anus polyp. Surgical resection was performed and histopathological examination of the specimen showed features of IFP...

Introduction: Intussusception represents a rare form of bowel obstruction in the adult, which is defined as the telescoping of a proximal segment of the gastrointestinal tract into the lumen of the adjacent distal segment of the GI tract Case Report: We report the case of a 50-year-old woman was admitted in our hospital with acute bowel obstruction. CT showed intestinal occlusion secondary to intussusception. the patient underwent emergency surgery. Surgery confirmed intussusception at the level of the distal ileum (about 30 cm from the ileocecal valve) due to a 3-4 oval mass of hard consistency that appeared to be suspicious for GIST...

Only 5% of all cases of intussusceptions occur in adults. Although it is known to occur frequently due to inflammatory bowel disease, postoperative adhesions, or neoplastic masses, inflammatory fibroid polyps (IFP), which are rare lesions of the gastrointestinal tract, may present this clinical picture. In rare cases of intussusception due to IFP, clinical suspicion should be kept in the foreground and mind in the differential diagnosis. In this article, the purpose was to present the clinical, radiological, and pathological findings and the treatment of obstruction caused by this rare lesion...

Introduction: Intussusception is a telescoping of a bowel segment into another and it can be a surgical urgency. Most adult intussusceptions arise from a lead point which can be benign or malignant. For this reason, intussusception in adults should undergo surgery. Here we describe a case of ileal inflammatory fibroid polyp (IFP), presenting with ileo-ileal intussusception and obstruction. INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: The majority of the of small bowel intussusception causes are benign, and different types of benign tumors have been reported as the lead points of an intussusception. Among these, some studies have reported inflammatory fibroid polyp as a cause of small bowel intussusception. However, according to our knowledge this is the first case to be reported in Africa of an adult double compound intussusception due to an inflammatory fibroid polyp. Intussusception is a common condition of bowel obstruction in pediatric patients. However, 5% of all cases occur in adults, mostly aged over fifty, with no difference based on sex, representing about 1% of all causes of bowel obstruction. Compared to pediatric population, it is triggered by a pathologic lead point in about 85% of cases, represented in 60% of cases by malignant and benign neoplasms. Among these neoplasms, an inflammatory fibroid polyp (IFP), a benign neoplastic submucosal lesion also known as Vanek's tumor, is considered a very uncommon cause of adult intussusception...

BACKGROUND AND AIM: gastric inflammatory fibroid polyps constitute only 0.1 % of all gastric polyps. They are usually amenable to resection by snare polypectomy. However, on rare occasions, these lesions may require resection by endoscopic submucosal dissection. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of endoscopic submucosal dissection in the management of gastric inflammatory fibroid polyps not amenable to resection with snare polypectomy. METHODS: a retrospective observational study of all consecutive patients who underwent endoscopic submucosal dissection for gastric inflammatory fibroid polyps between January 2011 and December 2020 was performed...

INTRODUCTION: Little information about clinical presentation of mesenchymal tumors of the lower gastrointestinal (GI) tract due to their extreme heterogeneity is available for clinical management. Usually, small solitary asymptomatic polyps are accidently found during a screening colonoscopy performed for hematochezia, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, and bowel obstruction. In this case series, we illustrate our experience with mesenchymal tumors of the lower GI tract, which are a group of unusual and quite challenging lesions...

Infertility impacts a considerable number of women worldwide, and it affects different aspects of family life and society. Although female infertility is known as a multifactorial disorder, there are strong genetic and epigenetic bases. Studies revealed that miRNAs play critical roles in initiation and development of female infertility related disorders. Early diagnosis and control of these diseases is an essential key for improving disease prognosis and reducing the possibility of infertility and other side effects...
