INTRODUCTION: The transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) is among the most utilized methods for the surgical treatment of lumbar degenerative disc disease. The TLIF has advanced significantly with several iterative changes since its inception in the early 1980s, with the advent of several generations of interbody types, shapes, and materials. Steerable curvilinear interbodies are among the most recent innovations in this space and may offer biomechanical advantages, namely in preservation of lumbar and segmental lordosis...

INTRODUCTION: Therapeutic radiographers (TRs) have adapted to the changing requirements and demands of the oncology service and in response to advanced techniques such as on-line adaptive MRI-guided radiotherapy (MRIgRT). The skills required for MRIgRT would benefit many TRs not just those involved in this technique. This study presents the results of a training needs analysis (TNA) for the required MRIgRT skills in readiness for training TRs for current and future practice. METHODS: A UK-based TNA was used to ask TRs about their knowledge and experience with essential skills required for MRIgRT based on previous investigations into the topic...

INTRODUCTION: To establish if the CT dataset acquired during the stress element of myocardial perfusion imaging can be fused to the subsequent rest scan to reduce radiation doses from these procedures. METHODS: 86 rest scans were processed and evaluated using a self-designed project specific tool. Recording processing time, the time between the two data sets selected for fusion and assessing radiographic reports to ensure produced images were of diagnostic quality...

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to com-pare the risk of International Society of Urological Pathology (ISUP) score upgrading between magnetic resonance imaging targeted fusion biopsy (MRI-TB) and tran-srectal ultrasound-guided biopsy (TRUS-B) in the final radical prostatectomy (RP) specimen pathological report. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective single center study included 51 patients with prostate cancer (PCa) diagnosed with MRI-TB and 83 patients diagnosed with TRUS-B between October/2019 and July/2021...

Background: Patients with lower-thoracic spine pathologies that affect anterior column stability and compress the neural tissues need anterior decompression and reconstruction. Anterior approaches result in long-term morbidities. Posterior laminectomy and fixation alone may not be sufficient to maintain spine stability. Questions/Purposes: To evaluate the results of a posterior-only transforaminal thoracic interbody fusion approach for patients with thoracic disc space infection in terms of the improvement in neurologic status, resolution of infection, correction of kyphotic deformity, and assessment of post-operative complications...

AIM: The purpose of the present study was to illustrate the modality of rotation of ventral and dorsal pancreatic buds by three-dimensional (3D) reconstructions in the rat embryos, during the Carnegie stages 13-17. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Serial sections of thirty rat embryos stages 13-17, were observed. The embryos were fixed in Bouin's solution, dehydrated, and paraffin embedded. The sections, 7 μm thick, were cut in longitudinal or transverse planes and were stained alternately by hematoxylin-eosin or Heindenhain' azan...

AIMS: The goal in this paper was to rebuild a three dimensional (3D) reconstruction of the dorsal and ventral pancreatic buds, in the human embryos, at Carnegie stages 15-23. METHOD: The early development of the pancreas is studied by tissue observation and reconstruction by a computer-assisted method, using a light micrograph images from consecutive serial sagittal sections (diameter 7 microm) of ten human embryos ranging from Carnegie stages 15-23, CRL 7-27 mm, fixed, dehydrated and embedded in paraffin, were stained alternately with haematoxylin-eosin or Heindenhain'Azan...

Low purification efficiency and incomplete characterization of male goat (buck) spermadhesins (Bdhs) prompted us to develop an effective system to produce recombinant Bdhs (rBdhs). Bdh-2 cDNA was inserted into a prokaryotic expression plasmid, pTrcHis TOPO. The pTrcHis-Bdh-2 system was constructed to produce a His(6) fusion protein in Escherichia coli Top10 cells. Recombinant clones were selected by growth in ampicillin-enriched medium, PCR amplification and nucleotide sequencing. The inserted cDNA was completely identified and recombinant protein synthesis was monitored by SDS-PAGE, followed by immunoblotting with monoclonal anti-His antibody...

The aim of this work was to reconstruct, in the rat embryos, stage 12-23, the three dimensional (3D) distribution of the dorsal and ventral pancreatic buds by of a computer assisted method. Ninety-six rat embryos, CRL 3-16 mm, fixed, dehydrated, and paraffin embedded, were submitted to serial histological sections and stained by hematoxylin-eosin and Heidenhain's azan techniques. The images were digitalized by Canon Camera 350 EOS D. The serial views were aligned anatomically by software and the data were analyzed following segmentation and thresholding...
