Autoimmune endocrinopathies and, less commonly, thyroid autoimmune disease have been reported in patients with sarcoidosis. Similarities exist in the pathogenesis of these two conditions. Concomitant sarcoidosis in the thyroid gland in patients with Graves' disease may contribute to the resistance to antithyroid drugs and radioiodine therapy. We present the clinical, laboratory, imaging, and pathologic findings of a patient with Graves' disease who was unresponsive to medical management. This 37-year-old man presented with thyrotoxicosis...

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: The purpose of the present study is to find out the correlation between the glomerular filtration rate (GFR by Gates gamma camera method) and serum creatinine clearance (SCrCl by Cockcroft and Gault's method) within ± 3 weeks' time difference. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Study design retrospectively in 59 patients with serum creatinine value calculated for SCrCl with Cockcroft and Gault's formula as an index parameter for kidney function underwent the 99m-Technitium labeled Di-ethyl Triamine Penta Acetic Acid (99mTc-DTPA) renogram with ECIL planar gamma camera...

The present study reports the design, synthesis, and biological evaluation of a novel, intravenously injectable, theranostic prodrug based on multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) concomitantly decorated with a fluorochrome (Alexa-fluor, AF488/647), radionucleide (Technitium-99m), tumor-targeting module (folic acid, FA), and anticancer agent (methotrexate, MTX). Specifically, MTX was conjugated to MWCNTs via a serum-stable yet intracellularly hydrolyzable ester linkage to ensure minimum drug loss in circulation...

Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) secreting adenomas are the rarest type of pituitary adenomas (1:1000000 in the population; 0.2- 2.8% of adenomas). Plurihormonal thyrotropic adenomas are even rarer usually having cosecretion of growth hormone (GH) and prolactin. We report perhaps for the first time, TSH, GH, adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) and gonadotropins secreting pituitary macroadenoma diagnosed in a 40 year lady presenting with features of thyrotoxicosis for 5 months, amenorrhea for 3 months and newly diagnosed diabetes and hypertension for 2 months along with headache, nausea, and vomiting, who had acromegaloid habitus, grade-II goitre, increased uptake on Technitium-99 pertechnate thyroid scan (4...

OBJECTIVES: This study investigated whether the technitium-99m sestamibi (MIBI) washout rate (WR) would predict mitochondrial damage and myocardial dysfunction in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). BACKGROUND: Myocardial mitochondrial damage reduces adenosine triphosphate production, resulting in myocardial dysfunction. Increased myocardial (99m)Tc-MIBI washout is reportedly caused by mitochondrial dysfunction. METHODS: Twenty DCM patients (New York Heart Association functional class I-III) underwent myocardial (99m)Tc-MIBI scintigraphy and cardiac catheterization...

The outcome of children born with cyanotic congenital heart disease has markedly improved over the years. Follow up is recommended for most post-operated cases as complications may occur over long term. One of the complications is the development of ventricular dysfunction, often seen after a successful Fontan surgery (or one of its modifications) for single ventricle. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of myocardial perfusion abnormalities in the ventricular myocardium of asymptomatic patients, older than 8 years of age, who had earlier undergone either a univentricular palliation (modified Fontan procedure) or a biventricular repair for tetralogy of Fallot, more than a year ago...

INTRODUCTION: Thoracic electrical bioimpedance (TEB) for measuring cardiac output (CO) is being explored increasingly as an alternative to pulmonary artery catheter. The major advantage of this technology is that it is non-invasive and easy to perform. Several studies have compared it to thermodilution cardiac output using PA catheter, with variable correlation. Multigated radionuclide equilibrium cardiography (RNEC) method of cardiac output measurement is known to be reliable. OBJECTIVE: To compare cardiac output measured by thoracic electrical bioimpdenace with that measured by multigated radionuclide equilibrium cardiography...

A 6-year-old, spayed female dog was evaluated for a history of chronic coughing, excessive panting, and lethargy. Iatrogenic hyperadrenocorticism was diagnosed, and pulmonary mineralization was documented with a 99m Technitium-methylene diphosphonate (99mTc-MDP) scan. Blood gas analysis showed hypoxia. Clinical signs resolved and blood gas values returned to normal when corticosteroid therapy was discontinued.

INTRODUCTION: Sentinel node mapping with radioactive technetium in non-small cell lung cancer has been shown to be feasible in several single institution reports. The Cancer and Leukemia Group B designed a phase II trial to test a standardized method of this technique in a multi-institutional setting. Pain around the lateral aspect of the knee is a common occurrence, and precise diagnosis may be difficult on clinical examination alone. Routine imaging modalities include plain radiographs, Technitium 99m bone scanning, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging. Ultrasound has been little used in the investigation of knee pathology. The authors present a case of recurrent tenosynovitis of the popliteus tendon in which the diagnosis was finally (after 22 years) made using ultrasound. The authors suspect that this condition may be more common than previously believed and that it may be misdiagnosed as meniscal pathology...

In this paper, we propose an approach for the reconstruction of dynamic images from a gated cardiac data acquisition. The goal is to obtain an image sequence that can show simultaneously both cardiac motion and time-varying image activities. To account for the cardiac motion, the cardiac cycle is divided into a number of gate intervals, and a time-varying image function is reconstructed for each gate. In addition, to cope with the under-determined nature of the problem, the time evolution at each pixel is modeled by a B-spline function...
