Russell bodies (RBs) are round eosinophilic intracytoplasmic inclusions formed by condensed immunoglobulins in mature plasma cells, which are called Mott cells. These cells are rarely found in the gastric tract, with even less cases reported in the colorectal region. There are still many questions about this event, as it is still unknown the relationship between the agents reported of increasing the probability of appearance of these cells and the generation of RBs. In this case report we describe the fifth patient presenting an infiltration of Mott cells in a colorectal polyp, being the second case with a monoclonal origin without a neoplastic cause, and the first one monoclonal for lambda...

Serrated lesions outside the low digestive tract are scarce, with only two traditional serrated adenomas (TSA) reported in the gallbladder, with limited information about the serrated pathway outside the colon. Our case was an incidental finding in a patient undergoing surgery to treat a cholecystitis, when a polypoid lesion was observed. The epithelium formed gland structures with ectopic crypts, serrated slits and eosinophilic cytoplasm. MUC4 and MUC5A were positive, but mismatch repair proteins (MSI) retained nuclear staining...

INTRODUCTION: Incidence of gallbladder polyps is 0,3-12%. It is important to differentiate pseudopolyps (cholesterol polyps, adenomyomatosis, inflammatory polyps), which do not have the capacity to become malignant, from true polyps (adenomas and adenocarcinomas). The main risk factors for malignancy are >6-10 mm, growth, sessile morphology, Indian ethnicity and primary sclerosing cholangitis. Ultrasound is the gold standard for diagnosis. Most polyps diagnosed by ultrasound are pseudopolyps...

OBJECTIVE: Time-limited didactic interventions have been shown to be effective in developing "generic" case conceptualization skills. The objective of this study is to test whether similar interventions can be used to develop case conceptualization skills that are "specific" to a treatment modality. METHOD: University psychology students were randomized to a target ( n  = 62) or a control group ( n  = 62). The target group received a training on psychoanalytic case conceptualization skills based on the newly-developed operators model...

BACKGROUND: The identification of gastric polyps incidentally in endoscopies of the upper digestive tract has increased its incidence, varying between 0.5% and 23%. 10% of these polyps have symptoms, 40% are hyperplastic. We allow ourselves to propose a laparoscopic technique for the management of giant hyperplastic polyps associated with a pyloric syndrome, not susceptible to endoscopic resection. METHOD: A series of patients approached by laparoscopic transgastric polypectomy due to the giant gastric polyps associated with pyloric syndrome, in Bogotá, Colombia, from January 2015 to December 2018...

INTRODUCTION: Complex polyps require the use of advanced endoscopic techniques or minimally invasive surgery for their approach. In rectal polyps it is of special relevance to reach a consensus on the best approach to avoid under- or overtreatment that increases unnecessary morbidity and mortality. METHODS: We describe a prospective, multicenter, pilot clinical trial with a first-in-human medical device. It is hypothesized that UNI-VEC® facilitates transanal laparoendoscopic surgery for the removal of early rectal tumors...

Reports on bovine colon polyps are rare. The present report demonstrates macro- and microscopically hyperplastic colon polyps of a seven-year-old German Simmental cow. Differential diagnoses (adenoma and adenocarcinoma) and aetiology are discussed. Even in cattle, intestinal polyps should be considered as a cause of intussusception.

BACKGROUND: In the clinical assessment of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP), evaluation of symptoms, nasoendoscopy findings and sinus computed tomography (CT) scan staging is employed in the management plan. Although prior studies have been done to assess the correlation of the three modalities in CRSwNP, such evaluation in patients with eosinophilic and non-eosinophilic types of CRSwNP requires further investigation. The aim of this study was to correlate the sinus CT scan staging to symptom and endoscopic scores in both types of CRSwNP...

The most accepted recommendation is to do colonoscopy screening in people 50 to 75 years old. However, recently the American Cancer Association (ACS) has recommended starting screening from the age of 45. In our environment there are no studies on the prevalence of adenomatous polyps in children under 50 years of age...

Although adenomas and serrated polyps are the preneoplastic lesions of colorectal cancer, only few of them will eventually progress to cancer. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the present and future of post-polypectomy colonoscopy surveillance. Post-polypectomy surveillance guidelines have recently been updated and all share the aim towards more selective and less frequent surveillance. We have examined these current guidelines and compared the recommendations of each of them. To improve the diagnostic yield of post-polypectomy surveillance it is important to find predictors of metachronous polyps that better identify high-risk individuals of developing advanced neoplasia...

Chronic Rhinosinusitis with Nasal Polyps (CRScPN) is a disease with great impact on health. The surgical option using endoscopic nasosinus surgery is the therapeutic alternative when control of the disease is not achieved with medical treatment. Extensive endoscopic approaches are being postulated as a possible best surgical treatment option in certain phenotypes of CRScPN. Endonasal mucoplasty associated with these approaches has been shown to be a complementary technique that improves both healing and mucosal oedema in patients with CRScPN in the short term...

INTRODUCTION AND AIMS: The adenoma detection rate (ADR) is the most important quality indicator for the prevention of colorectal cancer but serrated polyps are also precursor lesions of the disease. "Serrated polyps" is the term used for epithelial lesions of the colon and rectum that have a "sawtooth" pattern on the polyp's surface and crypt epithelium. The so-called serrated pathway describes the progression of sessile serrated adenomas and traditional serrated adenomas to colorectal cancer. Said pathway is well recognized as an alternative mechanism of carcinogenesis and accounts for 15-30% of the cases of colorectal cancer. It also explains a large number of the cases of interval colorectal cancer...
