Listeria monocytogenes is a gram-positive bacterium that causes listeriosis. Brain abscess is a very uncommon manifestation of listeriosis and has not been reported to be associated with adalimumab (humira), one of the approved medications for treating Crohn's disease. A 45-year-old female with Crohn's disease presented with sudden onset of fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, and altered mental status for 1 day. She was on prednisone and 6-mercaptopurine. She had started taking adalimumab 17 days prior to admission...

A 53-year-old man with mediastinal lymph node biopsy and cardiac MRI-proven cardiac sarcoidosis (CS) received treatment with pacemaker and steroids. FDG PET/CT showed active CS despite treatment with prednisone and methotrexate. Addition of weekly adalimumab (Humira) injections was introduced for 3 months. Follow-up FDG PET/CT showed complete resolution of CS as well as improvement of other sarcoid lesions in the thoracic lymph nodes.

The purpose of this retrospective study was to characterize and further define autoimmune inner ear disease (AIED) using the Harris AIED classification. A retrospective review was conducted at two tertiary medical centers for 47 patients who were diagnosed with AIED. The overall patient response rate to oral prednisone treatment was 69.7%. The sensitivity of the test for a serum antibody against heat-shock protein 70 (HSP70) was 54.5% and the specificity was 42.9%. Therefore, the clinical utility of the HSP70 antibody test appeared to be limited with respect to the diagnosis of AIED...

INTRODUCTION: Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory disorder characterized by the presence of non-caseating granulomas in affected organs. The presence of CD4-positive T lymphocytes and macrophages in affected organs suggests an ongoing immune response. Systemic corticosteroids remain the mainstay of treatment, but therapy is often limited by adverse effects. This is the first report of the use of adalimumab (HUMIRA((R)), Abbott Laboratories, North Chicago, IL, USA), an anti-tumor necrosis factor monoclonal antibody, in a patient with systemic sarcoidosis with bone marrow involvement...
