In order to achieve the high-value utilization of heavy tar for the production of enhanced-performance graphite foam carbon, the carbon mesophase was ready from the heavy component of low-temperature coal tar, and the coal tar was modified by styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS), polyethylene (PE) and ethylene-vinyl-acetate (EVA) copolymers. The order degree of the carbonite mesophase was analyzed using a polarizing microscope test, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction to screen out the most suitable copolymer type and addition amount...

A 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO)-based derivative (PN-DOPO) combined with aluminium phosphates-coated sepiolite (Sep@AlPO4 ) was used to improve the flame retardance, thermal stability and mechanical performances of poly (ethylene oxide) (PEO)/poly (butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) blends. The synergistic effects of PN-DOPO and Sep@AlPO4 on flame-retarded PEO/PBAT composites were systematically discussed. Results indicated that introducing 5 wt% Sep@AlPO4 with 10 wt% PN-DOPO into PEO/PBAT achieved a V-1 rating for the UL-94 test and increased the limiting oxygen index value to 23...

The aim of this study was the molecular imprinting polymers (MIPs) assessment as a controlled release system of ciprofloxacin. The MIPs synthesis was performed by three different methods: emulsion, bulk, and co-precipitation. Lactic acid (LA) and methacrylic acid (MA) were used as functional monomers and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as crosslinker. Also, nonimprinted polymers (NIPs) were synthesized. MIPs and NIPs were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared Reflection, specific surface area, pore size, and release kinetics...

High-affinity K+ (HAK) transporters play essential roles in facilitating root K+ uptake in higher plants. Our previous studies revealed that GhHAK5a, a member of the HAK family, is crucial for K+ uptake in upland cotton. Nevertheless, the precise regulatory mechanism governing the expression of GhHAK5a remains unclear. The yeast one-hybrid screening was performed to identify the transcription factors responsible for regulating GhHAK5a, and ethylene response factor 9 (GhERF9) was identified as a potential candidate...

Functionalization of GO with an amphiphilic block copolymer is designed with an aim to enhance its biocompatibility, however, long copolymer chains can screen the blade effect of GO to sacrifice its antimicrobial activities. To solve this problem, low molecular weight of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG), poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV) and their block copolymer were respectively introduced onto GO via an isophorone diisocyanate modified GO as a intermediate, followed by a solvent evaporation of an oil-in-water emulsion treatment (SE treatment) to induce block copolymer into polymer micelle via phase separation to refresh the sharp edges of GO...

Development of a nanoscale drug delivery system that can simultaneously exert efficient tumor therapeutic efficacy while creating the desired antitumor immune responses is still challenging. Herein, we report the use of a manganese dioxide (MnO2 )-entrapping dendrimer nanocarrier to codeliver glucose oxidase (GOx) and cyclic GMP-AMP (cGAMP), an agonist of the stimulator of interferon genes (STING) for improved tumor chemodynamic/starvation/immune therapy. Methoxy poly(ethylene glycol) ( m PEG)- and phenylboronic acid (PBA)-modified generation 5 (G5) poly(amidoamine) dendrimers were first synthesized and then entrapped with MnO2 nanoparticles (NPs) to generate the hybrid MnO2 @G5- m PEG-PBA (MGPP) NPs...

Recently developed enzymes for the depolymerization of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) such as FAST-PETase and LCC-ICCG are inhibited by the intermediate PET product mono(2-hydroxyethyl) terephthalate (MHET). Consequently, the conversion of PET enzymatically into its constituent monomers terephthalic acid (TPA) and ethylene glycol (EG) is inefficient. Currently, there is considerable interest in seeking an environmentally friendly technique that is neither thermally nor organic solvent-dependent for producing advanced polymer films for food-packaging applications. Among different approaches, plasma polymerization is a promising method that can deposit biodegradable coatings on top of polymer films. Coatings that prevent or decrease fouling are sought for many applications, including those that inhibit the attachment of organisms in aquatic environments. To date, antifouling coatings have mostly followed design criteria assembled over decades: surfaces should be well/strongly hydrated, possess low net charge, and maintain a hydrophilic character when exposed to the location of use. Thus, polymers based on ethylene glycol or zwitterionic repeat units have been shown to be highly effective. Unfortunately, hydrated materials can be quite soft, limiting their use in some environments...

Conventional polymeric phase change materials (PCMs) have been widely used due to their high heat storage density, small temperature variation, and nontoxicity. However, the high flammability and unrecyclable problems restrict their applications in energy storage devices (ESDs). Although it is facile to introduce a flame retardant into phase change materials to improve fire resistance, the physical blending will deteriorate the mechanical performance and thermal stability of PCMs. Herein, flame-retardant solid-solid PCMs (FRPCMs) with intrinsic flame retardancy, phase change property, self-healing, and recyclability were synthesized by simultaneously integrating tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) into polyurethane network skeletons...

Antibody-drug conjugates consist of potent small-molecule payloads linked to a targeting antibody. Payloads must possess a viable functional group by which a linker for conjugation can be attached. Linker-attachment options remain limited for the connection to payloads via hydroxyl groups. A releasing group based on 2-aminopyridine was developed to enable stable attachment of para -aminobenzyl carbamate (PABC) linkers to the C21-hydroxyl group of budesonide, a glucocorticoid receptor agonist.
