The effective flow of electrons through bulk electrodes is crucial for achieving high-performance batteries, although the poor conductivity of homocyclic sulfur molecules results in high barriers against the passage of electrons through electrode structures. This phenomenon causes incomplete reactions and the formation of metastable products. To enhance the performance of the electrode, it is important to place substitutable electrification units to accelerate the cleavage of sulfur molecules and increase the selectivity of stable products during charging and discharging...

With the advancement of cementitious material technologies, ultra-high performance concretes incorporating nano- and(or) micro-sized particle materials have been developed; however, their environmental risks are still poorly understood. This study investigates the ecotoxicological effects of ultra-high performance concrete (UC) leachate by comparing with that of the conventional concrete (CC) leachate. For this purpose, a dynamic leaching test and a battery test with algae, water flea, and zebrafish were performed using standardized protocols...

Neuropathic pain occurs in people experiencing lesion or disease affecting the somatosensorial system. It is present in 7% of the general population and may not fully respond to first- and second-line treatments in up to 40% of cases. Neuromodulation approaches are often proposed for those not tolerating or not responding to usual pharmacological management. These approaches can be delivered surgically (invasively) or non-invasively. Invasive neuromodulation techniques were the first to be employed in neuropathic pain...

Separator is an essential component of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), which is placed between the electrodes to impede their electrical contact and provide the transport channels for lithium ions. Traditionally, the separator contributes the overall mass of LIBs, thereby reducing the gravimetric capacity of the devices. Herein, a dual-layer redox-active cellulose separator is designed and fabricated to enhance the electrochemical performances of LIBs by introducing NiS. The presented separator is composed of an insulating bacterial cellulose (BC) nanofiber layer and a conductive, and redox-active NiS@BC/carbon nanotubes layer...

Microplastics (MPs), as emerging indoor contaminants, have garnered attention due to their ubiquity and unresolved implications for human health. These tiny particles have permeated indoor air and water, leading to inevitable human exposure. Preliminary evidence suggests MP exposure could be linked to respiratory, gastrointestinal, and potentially other health issues, yet the full scope of their effects remains unclear. To map the overall landscape of this research field, a bibliometric analysis based on research articles retrieved from the Web of Science database was conducted...

Solid-state electrolytes (SSEs) based on sulfides have become a subject of great interest due to their superior Li-ion conductivity, low grain boundary resistance, and adequate mechanical strength. However, they grapple with chemical instability toward moisture hypersensitivity, which decreases their ionic conductivity, leading to more processing requirements. Herein, a Li9.8 GeP1.7 Sb0.3 S11.8 I0.2 (LGPSSI) superionic conductor is designed with a Li+ conductivity of 6.6 mS cm-1 and superior air stability based on hard and soft acids and bases (HSAB) theory...

The practical application of zinc ion batteries (ZIBs) can be facilitated by designing cathode materials with unique structures that can overcome the critical problems of slow reaction kinetics and large volume expansion associated with the intercalation reaction of divalent zinc ions. In this study, a novel urchin-like (NH4 )2 V10 O25 ·8H2 O assembled from nanorods was synthesized by a simple hydrothermal method, noted as U-NVO. The interlayer organic pillar of cetyltrimethylammonium cation (CTAB) has been intercalated between layers to regulate the interlayer microstructure and expand the interlayer spacing to 1...

Breaking through the limitations of lithium-ion transmission is imperative for high-power rechargeable batteries. As a promising anode material for fast-charging lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), niobium pentoxide (Nb2 O5 ) has garnered considerable research attention due to its exceptional rate performance, stable lithium storage performance and high safety attributes. Nevertheless, the limited intrinsic conductivity of Nb2 O5 , coupled with its structural degradation during the cycling process, imposes constraints on its viability as a commercially viable electrode material...

OBJECTIVE: Epilepsy patients often report memory deficits despite normal objective testing, suggesting that available measures are insensitive or that non-mnemonic factors are involved. The Visual Paired Comparison Task (VPCT) assesses novelty preference, the tendency to fixate on novel images rather than previously viewed items, requiring recognition memory for the "old" images. As novelty preference is a sensitive measure of hippocampal-dependent memory function, we predicted impaired VPCT performance in epilepsy patients compared to healthy controls...

However, it suffers from poor electric conductivity and low ion diffusivity. Herein, we demonstrate the controllable fabrication of Cu-doped Nb2 O5 with orthorhombic (T-Nb2 O5 ) and monoclinic (H-Nb2 O5 ) phases through annealing the solvothermally presynthesized Nb2 O5 precursor under different temperatures in air, and the Cu doping amount can be readily controlled by the concentration of the precursor solution, whose effect on the lithium storage behaviors of the Cu-doped Nb2 O5 is thoroughly investigated...

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries are emerging as promising sustainable energy-storage devices. However, their cyclic stability is still a great challenge due to the inevitable parasitic reaction and dendrite growth induced by water. Herein, a cosolvent strategy based on competitive effect is proposed to address the aforementioned challenges. Ethanol with a higher Gutmann donor number demonstrates lower polarity and better wettability on the Zn surface compared with water, which endows ethanol with the ability of minimizing water activity by weakening H bonds and preferentially adsorbing on the Zn electrode...

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) suffer from sharp cycling deterioration due to serious interfacial side reactions and corrosion problems on the zinc anode. Herein, an efficacious approach to construct hydrophobic ZnMoO4 coatings on Zn (denoted as Zn@ZMO) is proposed to mitigate direct contact between the zinc anode and electrolyte and enhance its cycle life. The hydrophobic ZnMoO4 layer (contact angle = 128°) with a honeycomb-like structure is prepared by an in situ liquid phase deposition method. The as-prepared ZnMoO4 coating exhibits persistent corrosion protection for Zn through 30 days of immersion in a 2 M ZnSO4 electrolyte, indicating excellent stability of the ZnMoO4 layer and ensuring its available application in AZIBs...
