We highlight the role of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) as a supplementary modality to ultrasound (USG) examination in ovarian torsion in this case report. The reported patient had clinical history suspicious of ovarian torsion; however, USG and Doppler flow study findings were equivocal. CEUS was performed to solve the diagnostic dilemma and to know the status of ovarian parenchymal viability which revealed non-enhancement of the ovarian cyst wall and pedicle throughout the USG examination thus establishing the diagnosis of non-viable or infarcted ovarian parenchyma...

Anatomical differences in the airway in pediatric patients, compared to adults pose many challenges during endotracheal intubation, such as selecting the proper sized endotracheal tube (ETT) during intubation. Our primary objective was to assess how accurate is ultrasound (US) co-relation in comparison to standard age-based formulas in pediatric patients. Meta-analysis was registered in PROSPERO 2020, CRD42020220041. Online literature available in PubMed, Cochrane, and Embase, Goggle scholar was searched from year 2000 till November 30, 2020, using relevant Mesh terms, ('airway US' OR (('airway'/exp OR airway) AND ('US'/exp OR US))) AND ('endotracheal intubation'/exp OR 'endotracheal intubation') AND ('pediatric'/exp OR pediatric)" to Predict endotracheal tube size/placement in pediatric age (neonate till 18 years) by the US...

BACKGROUND: Fetal ultrasonographic evaluation is a routine part of pregnancy follow-up, and examination of orbital structures is also part of the routine evaluation. Although orbital developmental anomalies are common in the neonatal period, diagnosis in the intrauterine period is not common. To our knowledge, three cases with a diagnosis of congenital orbital epidermal cysts have been reported in the literature, and two of them had fetal imaging findings. In this article, we present the pre-postnatal imaging findings of a case diagnosed with orbital cyst in the fetal period and histopathologically diagnosed as epidermal cyst in the neonatal period...

We have seen that radiological techniques like digital x-ray, high-frequency ultrasonography (USG), computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) have their unique roles in assessing a complex anatomical structure like the nail unit. Broadly speaking, USG and MRI help evaluate soft tissue components well; while, radiographs and CT scans help assess bony lesions better. In the second part of this review, salient radiological features of various nail disorders, as seen on these modalities are detailed...

A limited soft tissue injury known as Morel-Lavallée syndrome is brought on by the violent segregation of the dermis and subcutaneous tissue layer. Shear injury causes perforating arteries and lymphatics to burst, potentially releasing serosanguinous fluid, blood, and necrotic fat into the area. Morel-Lavallée lesions (MLL) can be accompanied by pelvic or acetabular fractures or by blunt trauma without a fracture. MLL is distinguished by enlargement, tightness, and tenderness of tissue. The skin around the lesion is frequently associated with diminished sensory perception...

Cancer is a fatal disease worldwide. Each year ten million people are diagnosed around the world, and more than half of patients eventually die from it in many countries. A majority of cancer remains asymptomatic in the earlier stages, with specific symptoms appearing in the advanced stages when the chances of adequate treatment are low. Cancer screening is generally executed by different imaging techniques like ultrasonography (USG), mammography, CT-scan, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Imaging techniques, however, fail to distinguish between cancerous and non-cancerous cells for early diagnosis...

Congenital tuberculosis (CTB) is the transmission of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection from mother to infant during the intrauterine period or delivery. An 82-day-old infant presented to Nilratan Sircar Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata, with a history of persistent fever from Day 15 of age. Over the course of more than 2 months, there were pneumonia, hepatosplenomegaly and endophthalmitis which were unresponsive to a range of antibiotics, and there had been several admissions to local hospitals. On this admission, his chest radiograph and contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) of the thorax demonstrated bilateral nodules and enlarged mediastinal lymph nodes...

The nail unit is a unique skin appendage, capable of mounting only a limited number of reaction patterns to a variety of insults. This makes it difficult to diagnose many nail conditions based on clinical features alone. Thus, diagnostic modalities have an important role to play in nail disorders. Emphasis is placed on non-invasive diagnostic methods, of which, radiological imaging forms an important part; however, it is a field largely under-explored with very few studies and reports available in the literature...

Acute uterine emergencies constitute both obstetric and gynecologic conditions. The superior image resolution, superior soft-tissue characterization, and lack of ionizing radiation make magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) preferable over ultrasonography (USG) and computed tomography (CT) in investigating uterine emergencies. Although USG is the first-line imaging modality and is easily accessible, it has limitations. USG is an operator dependent and limited by patient factors such as obesity and muscle atrophy...

In children at risk of neurological damage, such as those delivered prematurely or with history of birth asphyxia, cranial ultrasonography is frequently employed. Cranial ultrasonography also detects cysts, asymmetrical ventricles, periventricular white matter echogenicity, and hemorrhage, among other features. We report the case of an 8-month-old boy who was brought to the emergency department with a history of head trauma followed by seizures. Bedside cranial ultrasonography revealed multiple bilateral intracranial cysts, consistent with porencephalic cysts...

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Seminal vesical cyst (SVC) together with ipsilateral renal agenesis known as Zinner's syndrome is a rare congenital malformation mostly asymptomatic and is detected in second to fourth decade of life presenting with symptoms of bowel and bladder neck irritation/obstruction. Diagnosis is based mainly on various imaging techniques with MRI being the confirmatory. Recent management includes laparoscopic excision of the SVC but conventional aspiration of the cystic fluid together with explorative open excision of the cyst is still regarded useful...

The degree of myometrial invasion (MI) is crucial in the preoperative diagnosis of endometrial cancer (EC) using MRI in terms of therapeutic and prognostic implications. However, several pitfalls should be kept in mind when using this modality. We report a case of EC on a 64-year-old woman, identified preoperatively without MI based on ultrasonography and MRI, implying a low risk of lymph node metastasis; surprisingly, the uterine incision showed the lesion had invaded <50% of the myometrium. Thus, a total laparoscopic hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy were performed, and histopathologic analysis confirmed that the EC was on stage IA (cancer is in the endometrium only or less than halfway through the myometrium)...

Inguinal hernia is the most prevalent type of abdominal wall hernia. Indirect inguinal hernia is twice as common as direct inguinal hernia. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging can be used to evaluate inguinal hernia, but these modalities are greatly limited by their cost and availability. Ultrasonography has emerged as the most convenient imaging tool for diagnosing inguinal hernia due to its advantages, such as portability and absence of radiation. The present pictorial review presents an overview on the use of ultrasonography in the evaluation of inguinal hernia with a particular emphasis on the regional anatomy, relevant scanning tips, identification of subtypes, postoperative follow-up, and diagnosis of pathologies mimicking inguinal hernia...

Hydatid disease primarily affects the liver which is the most common location. This article highlights a rare representation of the hydatid disease which has led to hematogenous spread of the disease and gives us a wider picture that how a common disease can have an uncommon presentation. Another point that is addressed in this research article is that the widely accepted classification systems for hydatid disease can be modified even further, making them even more accurate. Here, we present a case of a 32-year-old male (non-smoker and non-alcoholic) who presented with focal neurological deficit, diffuse headache, diffuse abdominal pain, and breathing difficulties for the past six months...

BACKGROUND: Cirrhotic cardiomyopathy refers to the structural and functional changes in the heart leading to either impaired systolic, diastolic, electrocardiographic, and neurohormonal changes associated with cirrhosis and portal hypertension. Cirrhotic cardiomyopathy is present in 50% of patients with cirrhosis and is clinically seen as impaired contractility, diastolic dysfunction, hyperdynamic circulation, and electromechanical desynchrony such as QT prolongation. In this review, we will discuss the cardiac physiology principles underlying cirrhotic cardiomyopathy, imaging techniques such as cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and scintigraphy, cardiac biomarkers, and newer echocardiographic techniques such as tissue Doppler imaging and speckle tracking, and emerging treatments to improve outcomes...
