PRECIS: Analysis of surgical success and intraocular pressure (IOP), best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and antiglaucomatous medication (AGM) changes between segmental 180-degree and 360-degree gonioscopy-assisted transluminal trabeculectomy (GATT) in patients with pseudoexfoliation glaucoma (PEXG) showed no significant difference. PURPOSE: To compare surgical outcomes of segmental 180-degree and 360-degree GATT in PEXG patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Prospective, comparative study of 65 PEXG eyes, who underwent segmental 180-degree GATT (GATT 180° group, 31 eyes) and 360-degree GATT (GATT 360° group, 34 eyes) in a tertiary academic center over a 12-month of follow-up...

OBJECTIVE: To reliably compare the three-year clinical outcome and safety of XEN45 Gel Stent implantation (XEN) vs. trabeculectomy (TRAB) in patients with glaucoma. SUBJECT/METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study with patients with primary open angle or pseudoexfoliation glaucoma with uncontrolled intraocular pressure (IOP) undergoing XEN or TRAB at the Innsbruck University Clinic of Ophthalmology and Optometry, Austria and analysed changes in IOP, numbers of IOP-lowering medications, and complete surgical success (i...

PURPOSE: To compare clinical outcomes between gonioscopy-assisted transluminal trabeculotomy (GATT) and trabeculectomy (TRAB) in patients with advanced-stage pseudoexfoliation glaucoma (PEXG). METHODS: This comparative study comprised 62 patients who underwent GATT (N = 31) or TRAB (N = 31) for advanced-stage PEXG. Primary outcome was cumulative probability of surgical success at the end of 12-month follow-up. Success was determined as intraocular pressure (IOP) reduction ≥ 30% from baseline, IOP between 6 and 18 mmHg and IOP upper limits for IOP < 15 mmHg and < 12 mmHg, separately...

Pseudoexfoliation syndrome (PEX) is a critical clinical and biological extracellular matrix systemic disorder. Despite the unknown nature of PEX etiopathogenesis, it is proven to be associated with various genes and factors. The present research focused on analyzing the expression of miR and inflammatory cytokines in PEX. Serum and aqueous humor (AH) were collected prior to cataract surgery or trabeculectomy from 99 participants (64 with PEX glaucoma, and 35 controls). Real-time PCR was used for assessing the expression pattern of some miRNAs namely let-7b, miR-29a, miR-126, miR-34a, and miR-181a-5p...

A total of 31 eyes from 28 patients received a MicroShunt implantation, and 29 eyes from 26 patients received a TET. Surgical success was defined as an intraocular pressure (IOP) between 5 mmHg and 17 mmHg at the end of the follow-up period, no need for surgical revisions or secondary glaucoma surgery, and no loss of light perception...

A 69-year-old male patient with Pseudoexfoliation and open angle glaucoma presented with malignant glaucoma 1 week after undergoing Gonioscopy Assisted Transluminal Trabeculotomy (GATT). This is a rare sight threatening complication following GATT. High index of suspicion, early detection and prompt institution of medical therapy and YAG hyaloidotomy, helped in resolution of the condition with good intra ocular pressure control and visual improvement.

INTRODUCTION: Glaucoma is a degenerative disease of the optic nerve and is marked by visual field defects (VFD). The only approved treatment is IOP lowering, either with eye drops, laser or surgery. Minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) has become an appealing treatment modality, offering IOP lowering effect without the complication rates of trabeculectomy or the patient adherence required for pharmacologic therapy. In this study we aim to describe the severity of VFD in patients undergoing their first MIGS surgery...

Best-corrected visual acuity often decreases temporarily or permanently after trabeculectomy (TE). The purpose of this study was to compare visual acuity and refractive changes after TE or XEN microstent implantation (XEN) in primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) or pseudoexfoliation glaucoma (PEX) cases naïve to prior glaucoma surgery over a 24-month follow-up period. We analyzed 149 consecutive glaucoma patients who received either TE or XEN because of medically uncontrollable POAG or PEX.
