Cherry tomatoes are highly well-liked and have a lot of nutritional value. However, the edible value of cherry tomatoes rapidly declines as their storage duration is extended. Pleurotus citrinopileatus polysaccharide (PCP) is a kind of polysaccharide obtained from P. citrinopileatus by water extraction. The effects of PCP were investigated to identify a way to maximally postpone cherry tomato degradation. The results showed that PCP had inhibitory effects on all 10 tested strains, and the inhibitory effect on Pseudomonas aeruginosa was the strongest...

Vermicompost and biochar have been widely used to improve soil conditions. However, little information is available regarding the efficiency and effectiveness of in situ vermicomposting with biochar (IVB) in monoculture soils. In this study, we estimated the effects of IVB on soil physiochemical and microbial properties, crop yields, and fruit quality under the tomato monoculture system. The soil treatments considered were (i) untreated monoculture soil (MS, control), (ii) MS plus 1.5 t/ha biochar applied to soil surface (MS+1...

To study the optimal form of nitrogen (N) application and to determine the best harvest date for blackberries, different N fertilizers were applied during the critical growth period of blackberry plants. The results showed that NH4 + -N significantly improved the appearance of blackberry fruits, including their size, firmness, and color, and promoted the accumulation of soluble solids, sugars, anthocyanin, ellagic acid, and vitamin C (VC), while fruit treated with NO3 - -N accumulated more flavonoids and organic acids and had improved antioxidant capacity...

Mercury chloride can cause severe liver injury, which involves multiple mechanisms. Ferroptosis plays an important role in regulating the development and progression of liver pathology. Oleanolic acid (OA), a triterpenoid compound widely exists in fruits, has liver protective properties. In this study, we investigated the role of ferroptosis in mercury chloride-induced liver injury and the intervention effect of OA, and clarified the potential mechanism. We found that mercury chloride-induced oxidative stress in liver tissues and cells, leading to lipid peroxidation and iron overload, thereby reducing the expression levels of GPX4 and SLC7A11, and increasing the expression level of TRF1, OA pretreatment improved the changes of GPX4, SLC7A11 and TRF1 induced by mercury chloride, which were related to its inhibition of oxidative stress...

In this study, we investigated the growth, yield, fruit quality, photosynthesis, and soil fertility of R. roxburghii in a 7-year typical 'Qianhe 7'/ 'Guinong 5' compound planting pattern in Guizhou. The results showed that compared with the monoculture, photosynthetic pigment content and photosynthetic rate of R. roxburghii leaves were significantly lower in the compound plantation...

Much attention has been paid to the health benefits of including fruits and vegetables in the diet. However, for the compounds responsible for this beneficial effect to be effective at the level of the human organism, they must be available for absorption after digestion. In this sense, in vivo studies are needed to demonstrate the bioavailability of these compounds and their physiological activity. In order to provide information in this regard, this study collects data on the levels of vitamin C (VC) and naringenin (NAG) in the blood serum of the 11 volunteer participants in this trial, before and after consuming two different grapefruit juices...

This study screened the elicitor protein phosphopentomutase from Bacillus velezensis LJ02 (BvEP) which improves the tomato resistance to B. cinerea . Phosphatemutase was reported to play a crucial role in the nucleoside synthesis of various microorganisms. However, there is no report on improving plant resistance by phosphopentomutase, and the related signaling pathway in the immune response has not been elucidated...

A nanocomposite (UiO-66/Ce-MnO2 ) was fabricated by combining UiO-66 with cerium-doped manganese dioxide (Ce-MnO2 ) for colorimetric detecting vitamin C (Vc). Compared with traditional artificial enzymes, the as-synthesized UiO-66/Ce-MnO2 were simple to prepare and did not require the participation of other active substances. The doping of cerium increased the oxygen vacancies and the UiO-66 as a carrier improved the dispersibility. The formation of superoxide anion (O2 - ) and the inside Ce4+ /Ce3+ and Mn4+ /Mn3+ redox couples of UiO-66/Ce-MnO2 endowed UiO-66/Ce-MnO2 with a high catalytic capability, which could catalytically oxidize 3, 3', 5, 5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) into oxidation state TMB (oxTMB) without H2 O2 , accompanying with color change and a prominent peak at 652 nm in UV-vis spectra...
