The article reviews the history of inguinal hernia surgery. At various times, different procedures and diverse materials were used for hernia repair. However, the effectiveness and safety of inguinal hernia repair emerged only after the anatomic features of the inguinal region had been elucidated in a monograph by Henri Fruchaud "Anatomie des hernies de l'aine" published in 1956. The Italian surgeon Edoardo Bassini began a new era in herniology. For a longtime, his classic procedure with its modifications was the most popular in surgical practice...

Alzheimer's Disease is the most common form of dementia; its key pathological findings include the deposition of extracellular-neurotoxic-plaques composed of amyloid-beta (Ab). AD-pathogenesis involves mechanisms that operate outside the brain, and new researches indicate that peripheral inflammation is an early event in the disease. Herein, we focus on a receptor known as triggering-receptor-expressed-on-myeloid-cells2 (TREM2), which promotes the optimal immune cells function required to attenuate AD-progression and is, therefore, a potential target as peripheral diagnostic and prognostic-biomarker for Alzheimer's Disease...

In the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration1 , large knowledge gaps persist on how to increase biodiversity and ecosystem functioning in cash crop-dominated tropical landscapes2 . Here, we present findings from a large-scale, 5-year ecosystem restoration experiment in an oil palm landscape enriched with 52 tree islands, encompassing assessments of ten indicators of biodiversity and 19 indicators of ecosystem functioning. Overall, indicators of biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, as well as multidiversity and ecosystem multifunctionality, were higher in tree islands compared to conventionally managed oil palm...

School administration must pay attention to professional teachers' roles rather than nonprofessional teachers as part of important human resources in imparting learning. This study aims to analyse the influence of leadership, work environment, and organisational culture on the teachers' competence and performance in Prajnamitra Maitreya Foundation Pekanbaru, Indonesia. A total of 57 teachers participated in this research. A descriptive analysis of questionnaires and hypothesis analysis using path analysis was used to analyse the data from the saturated sampling method, where 57 teachers became the sample and were categorised based on age, gender, level of education, years of service, and work unit...

Protrusion of abdominal contents through the obturator foramen is a rare type of abdominal wall hernia. It is usually seen unilaterally and right-sided. Predisposing factors are old age, high intra-abdominal pressure, pelvic floor dysfunction, and multiparity. Obturator hernia has one of the highest mortality rates of all abdominal wall hernias, with a difficult diagnostic process that can be misleading even for the most experienced surgeons. Therefore, to suspect and easily diagnose an obturator hernia, it is important to understand its characteristics...

A three-component synthesis methodology is described for the formation of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) containing extended aromatics. Notably, this approach enables synthesis of the building blocks and COF along parallel reaction landscapes, on a similar timeframe. The use of fragmental building block components, namely pyrene dione diboronic acid as aggregation-inducing COF precursor and the diamines o-phenylenediamine (Ph), 2,3-diaminonaphthalene (Naph), or (1R,2R)-(+)-1,2-diphenylethylenediamine (2Ph) as extending functionalization units in conjunction with 2,3,6,7,10,11-hexahydroxytriphenylene, resulted in the formation of the corresponding pyrene-fused azaacene, i...

OBJECTIVES: Inguinal hernia repair is one of the most common daily surgeries performed in pediatrics. This prospective randomized clinical trial aims to compare ultrasound (USG)-guided ilioinguinal/iliohypogastric (IL/IH) nerve block and pre-incisional wound infiltration (PWI) in terms of post-operative analgesia on pediatric unilateral inguinal hernia repair. METHODS: After receiving ethics committee approval, 65 children aged 1-6 years who had unilateral inguinal hernia repair were allocated to USG-guided IL/IH nerve block (group IL/IH, n=32) and (group PWI, n=33)...

BACKGROUND: Mental illnesses comprise the single largest source of health-related economic burden globally, and low- and middle-income countries are disproportionately affected. The majority of people with schizophrenia who need treatment do not receive it and are often wholly reliant on family caregivers for daily care and support. Family interventions have an exceptionally robust evidence base for their efficacy in high-resource settings, but it is unknown whether they can produce equivalent effects in some low-resource settings where cultural beliefs, explanatory models of illness and contextual socio-economic issues differ...

Spinal pathology is a major public health problem. It is sometimes referred to as the "disease of the century" due to the increasing number of people affected. It can be low back pain or neck pain, but whatever the mechanism and the age of the patient, its consequences on the quality of life are undeniable. In the case of scoliosis, which can cause an alteration in body image in young patients, treatment requires, in addition to possible surgery, long-term support.

HIV/AIDS-positive men who have had sex with men (MSM) account for roughly one-third of new infections in the region, with numerous nations facing a high and rising prevalence. They often face stigmatization and discrimination from society, including nurses. This study aims to explore nurses' perspectives on caring for HIV/AIDS-infected MSM. A descriptive qualitative design was utilized. Fifteen nurses who cared for HIV/AIDS-positive MSM in the two hospitals in Jakarta, Indonesia, were recruited with purposive sampling techniques...

We sought to determine the prevalence of abnormal alanine aminotransferase (ALT) among pregnant Individuals who present to labor and delivery for evaluation and to evaluate prevalence of underlying diagnosed liver conditions. Prospective study evaluating liver tests in consecutive samples obtained on the labor and delivery unit. Patient characteristics were compared between those with and without abnormal ALT and those with and without abnormal ALT without a liver-related diagnosis made in clinical practice, using t tests for continuous measures and χ2 or Fisher's exact tests as appropriate for categorical measures...
