The primary cutaneous lymphomas are often indolent but difficult to treat. In the early stages psoralen and ultraviolet-A therapy is the standard treatment whereas at the tumor stage chemotherapy (e.g. pegylated doxorubicin) is often used for debulking. The purine analog 2-chlorodeoxyadenosine (2CdA) acts in non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and has been used in our center for the treatment of advanced primary cutaneous T-cell lyphomas (CTCL). Here, we report on the efficacy and side effects of 2CdA in six patients with CTCL...

OBJECTIVES AND AIM: Patients affected by hematological malignancies can often benefit from high dose chemotherapy followed by peripheral blood stem cells (PBSCs) transplantation. Different strategies have been used to mobilize an adequate number of PBSC, including granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) alone or chemotherapy plus G-CSF. In this study, we aimed to compare the efficacy profile of different G-CSF agents including filgrastim (Neupogen®), biosimilar filgrastim (Leucostim®) and Lenograstim (Granocyte®) on CD34(+) mobilization in patients who underwent autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (autoHSCT)...

BACKGROUND: There is debate on the timing and outcome of coronary artery bypass surgery in patients with coincident malignancy. In this study, we compared the outcome of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) in such patients with those without malignancy. METHODS: The patients were selected from those who had undergone coronary artery bypass surgery in the last decade. The study group (group I) included the patients with malignancy in remission. The control group comprised those patients who were selected randomly from those without any malignancy...

In extranodal non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL), the gastrointestinal tract is by far the most frequent localization. One must differentiate between primary lymphoma, e.g. those arising in the gastrointestinal tract, and secondary lymphoma, which can affect the digestive tract as a disseminations of nodal lymphoma. Analysis of histomorphologic and immunhistochemical characteristics and the concept of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) have led to primary gastrointestinal lymphoma now being viewed as an independent entity...

BACKGROUND: To investigate the proportion, clinical characteristics and outcome of lymphocyte-rich classical Hodgkin lymphoma (LRCHL) in relation to nodular lymphocyte predominant HL (NLPHL) and classical HL (cHL). PATIENTS AND METHODS: A series of 2743 HL patients of all stages enrolled into three EORTC trials (H7, H8, H34) conducted between 1988 and 2000 and forming an unbiased series of HL patients was studied. RESULTS: Detailed histological classification after panel review was available in 96% of the cases to allow selection of all cases with features potentially compatible with the WHO-definition of LRCHL for this study...

This report describes a non-Hodgkin lyphoma case presenting with skeletal muscle and cutaneous involvement. A 75 year-old man was admitted to hospital with mass in the right upper extremity and skin lesions on the back of his trunk. Excisional mass biopsy was reported immunohistopthologically as large B-cell lymphoma. Primary extranodal lymphoma arising from skeletal muscle and concomitant skin infiltration of other body localization is not common. So this case was represented and relevant literature was reviewed...

OBJECTIVE: To assess the optinums chemotherapeutic protocols for higher CR rate in the treatment of intermediate and high grade malignant non Hodgin's lyphoma(NHL). METHODS: Seventy-four patients with pathological intermediate and high grade malignant NHL were tried randomly with revised ProMACE-CytaBOM(treatment group) and CHOP(control group). RESULTS: The CR rate was 56.8% in the treatment group and 35.0% in the control group (P > 0.05)...

BACKGROUND: The clinical applicability of the Revised European-American Lymphoma (R.E.A.L.) Classification has been demonstrated in several retrospective studies. The present, ongoing study was initiated to evaluate the clinical and pathological utility of the R.E.A.L. Classification compared with the Working Formulation (WF) in a prospective fashion, in an unselected patient population treated at a single institution. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Prospective data were collected on 596 biopsies from 557 patients referred with an initial diagnosis of lymphoma...

Ninety patients with Stage I or II, including extranodal (E), presentations of non-Hodkin's lymphoma were investigated by laparotomy, either for the definitive staging of patients with peripheral presentations or for diagnosis of abdominal disease. Sixty-eight patients had staging laparotomies after extensive work-up, which included lymphangiography and bone marrow biopsy. The remaining 22 patients had laparotomies for diagnosis of abdominal symptoms or for management of unrelated surgical problems, with lyphoma being found incidentally...
