Understanding microbial metabolism is crucial for evaluating shifts in human host-microbiome interactions during periods of health and disease. However, the primary hurdle in the realm of constraint-based modeling and genome-scale metabolic models (GEMs) pertaining to host-microbiome interactions lays in the efficient utilization of metagenomic data for constructing GEMs that encompass unexplored and uncharacterized genomes. Challenges persist in effectively employing metagenomic data to address individualized microbial metabolisms to investigate host-microbiome interactions...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE:
The aim of the study was to investigate the question: Can MRI radiomics analysis of the periaqueductal gray region elucidate the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying various migraine subtypes, and can a machine learning model using these radiomics features accurately differentiate between migraine patients and healthy individuals, as well as between migraine subtypes, including atypical cases with overlapping symptoms?
. METHODS:
The study analyzed initial MRI images of individuals taken after their first migraine diagnosis, and additional MRI scans were acquired from healthy subjects...

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to determine the physical activity (PA) level of individuals with migraine and examine its effects on pain intensity (PI), disability, and quality of life (QoL). METHODS: Individuals diagnosed with migraine between the ages of 18 and 55 were included in the study. PA levels are assessed by the International PA Questionnaire Short Form (IPAQ-SF), PI with the McGill Melzack Pain Questionnaire, disability with the Migraine Disability Assessment Scale (MIDAS), and QoL with the World Health Organization QoL Scale Short Form (WHOQOL-BREF)...

Migraine as a common primary headache disorder has a significant negative effect on quality of life of the patients. Its pharmacotreatment includes acute and preventative therapies. Based on the shared therapeutic guideline of the European Headache Federation and the European Academy of Neurology for acute migraine treatment a combination of triptans and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs is recommended for acute migraine treatment in triptan-nonresponders. In this short review we summarized the results of the randomized controlled clinical trials evaluating the effectiveness and safety of sumatriptan (85 mg)/naproxen sodium (500 mg) fix-dose combination...

The pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) was isolated and characterized from sheep hypothalami. Its amino acid sequence, gene, receptors and receptor genes and its distribution in the mammalian organism were soon described. PACAP is a member of the secretin peptide family. Its closest relative is the vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP). Its widespread occurrence suggests that it plays a significant role in physiological processes. With the aim of animal models, the role of PACAP was intensively investigated worldwide in a possible treatment of various diseases...

BACKGROUND: The VEPs provide an objective measure of brain function, analyzing integrity of visual processing. With patients affected with schizophrenia, the changes with the implementation of VEP are evident, such as symmetrical deceleration of the impulse and the continuance of latency, which points to a degenerative illness, suggesting the presence of optical neuritis or hemianopsia conjoined with mentioned intracranial illness. OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to determine the correlation of positive and negative symptoms (PANSS scores) and P100 latency between patients with schizophrenia and patients with migraine headache according to gender and age...

Background and purpose: Previous studies using generic and disease specific instruments showed that both migraine and medication overuse headache are associated with lower health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The aim of our study was to assess HRQoL differences in migraineurs and in patients with MOH and to examine how headache characteristics such as years with headache, aura symptoms, triptan use, headache pain severity and headache frequency are related to HRQoL. Hemiplegic migraine (HM) is a rare subtype of migraine with aura which prevalence is about 0.01%. The characteristic features include motor symptoms (hemiparesis) along with the signs of migraine with typical aura (visual, sensory and/or speech disturbances). The diagnosis of familial hemiplegic migraine (FHM) is established when at least 1 or more relatives of the 1st or 2nd degree in the family have the attacks of HM. This report describes a family in which two members (father and daughter) develop attacks of severe headache with nausea and, sometimes, vomiting, accompanied by visual disturbances, speech impairment, followed by unilateral numbness and weakness of extremities...

Vestibular migraine (VM) is one of the most common causes of episodic vertigo, but it can be missed in patients complaining of dizziness. This report describes the case of a 46-year-old woman with episodic vertigo attacks and a history of migrainous headaches. Some of the vertigo attacks were accompanied by a migraine. Gaze-induced nystagmus was present during attacks, but regressed with medication. Ear, nose, and throat evaluation; laboratory; imaging findings; and hearing test results were normal. Treatment with 500 mg valproic acid led to a rapid response in this case...

Idiopathic orbital myositis is an inflammatory disease of the extraocular muscles and is a rare disease of orbit. Diagnosis is based on clinical and radiological findings. Demonstration of edema and thickening of extraocular muscles in orbital magnetic resonance imaging and dramatic response to corticosteroids are considered a pathognomonic finding for orbital myositis. In this case, we aimed to discuss a rare case and emphasize the importance of differential diagnosis in headaches.
