OBJECTIVE: Normobaric hypoxia induces pulmonary hypertension (PH) in healthy individuals and post-myocardial infarction (P-MI) patients. Depending on the size of the myocardial scar and the remaining left ventricular ejection fraction, P-MI patients are potentially more vulnerable to cardiac rhythm disorders than healthy individuals. Albeit of utmost importance for P-MI patients planning high altitude sojourn, data regarding effects of hypoxia on cardiac rhythm remain contradictory. The objective was to evaluate if normobaric hypoxia-induced PH triggers electrocardiographic changes at rest and under exertion in P-MI patients...

BACKGROUND: Anthracycline use is limited by cardiotoxicity, including arrhythmias and left ventricular (LV) dysfunction. We aim to characterize the association between electrophysiological changes and LV dysfunction. METHODS: A retrospective chart review was conducted, including all 147 pediatric cancer survivors at our institution over 18 years of age and treated with an anthracycline. One hundred thirty-four patients who had at least one electrocardiogram (ECG) and echocardiogram were analyzed...

COMPARATIVE STUDY
Gunesh P Rajan, René Zellweger
BACKGROUND: Myocardial contusion during blunt chest trauma is common and may lead to potentially fatal cardiac complications. Therefore, it is useful to identify a serum marker reflecting the myocardial damage that can predict risk for cardiac complications. In this study, the authors determined the strength of the association between cardiac troponin I (cTnI) levels and the risk of arrhythmia or the development of left ventricular dysfunction in a cohort of patients with blunt chest trauma...

We aimed to assess the relationship between frequent and complex ventricular ectopy by continuous electrocardigraphic 24-hours Holter monitoring in patients with coronary artery disease and inducible ischemia during exercise procedures. We investigated 609 consecutive patients. They were referred for chest pain (28% with a previous myocardial infarction, older than 6 months). In all population patients radionuclide ventriculography showed a global normal or mildly reduced left ventricular function (ejection fraction > 45%)...
