Introduction: Ovarian cancer is one of most fatal gynecological condition. The number of patients diagnosed in advanced stages is very high, hence the recurrence rate is high, and the chance of survival at 5 years is less than 45%. Purpose: To evaluate correspondance between overall survival with clinical, paraclinical, tumor or treatment characteristics and to identify prognostic factors in patients with advanced ovarian cancer - stage III and IV FIGO. Material and Method: We performed a retrospective study in 65 patients with advanced ovarian cancer - stages III and IV FIGO operated during 2010-2018, with a follow-up period of at least one year...

INTRODUCTION: Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is the seventh most common cancer among women in the world and the leading cause of death from gynecological malignancies. The standard treatment for advanced EOC consists of optimal primary debulking surgery (PDS) associated with an adjuvant chemotherapy. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) and interval debulking surgery (IDS) have been proposed in the management of advanced EOC to increase the rate of complete citoreductive surgery and to reduce morbidity and mortality...

OBJECTIVE: Our first objective was to report our experience on robot-assisted vesico-vaginal fistula (VVF) repair after radical surgery for gynecologic malignancies without omental flap interposition using a da Vinci robotic system. The second objective was to critically review the literature in order to analyze surgical solutions used to avoid repair failure. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Five patients with VVF diagnosed after previous open surgery for gynecologic malignancies referred to our tertiary institutions were selected...

BACKGROUND: Closed hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) may increase abdominal pressure and effects of hemodynamic changes due to maintenance hyperthermia. Our aim was to analyze the safety and effectiveness of our closed technique with CO2 circulation in management fluid status and hemodynamic parameters by means of cardiac preload control measured by Global End Diastolic Values (GEDV) and a gas exchanger. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A Pilot Clinical Study that included 18 advanced ovarian cancer patients undergoing citoreductive surgery and HIPEC...

PURPOSE: Assess the feasibility, safety and efficacy of TACE with irinotecan loaded micro particles (debiri) for the treatment of locally advanced rectal cancer patients. RESULTS: We assessed the Edmonton Symptom Assessment System (ESAS). The tool is designed to assess nine common symptoms in cancer patients: pain, tiredness, nausea, depression, anxiety, drowsiness, appetite, wellbeing and shortness of breath. The ESAS score was 7 in 10/12 (83%) patients before treatment and 6 in 2/12 (16...

AIM: Ovarian cancer may be considered as an "intraperitoneal disease" by itself. When surgical removal associated with systemic chemotherapy fails, usually, the history of the patients is characterized by poor prognosis. Some encouraging results have been reported by the treatment of peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC) from ovarian cancer by complete surgical cytoreduction, peritonectomy and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC). The purpose of this article was to evaluate the survival benefit and the morbidity of patients with ovarian cancer treated at our institution by cytoreductive surgery associated with hyperthermic intraperitoneal perioperative chemotherapy (HIPEC)...

The primary fallopian tube invader adenocarcinoma is a preoperative diagnosis rarely reported in the literature, because is the most uncommon of all gynecological tumors, with prevalence from 0.3 to 1.8%. Since its clinical evolution is very unspecific, in general this tumor is diagnosed during a laparothomy for other purpose or by the pathologist in the final histopathological report. The most frequent signs and symptoms are abdominal pain or a pelvic mass in 80% of cases; transvaginal bleeding in 50%, intense transvaginal serohematic discharge (hidrops tubae profluens) in 11...

Benefits from hormonal therapy in patients with hormon-sensitive breast cancers are widely and well known. A great challenge for clinicians is represented by the possibility to use citoreductive primary hormonal therapy in patients with locally advanced breast carcinoma. Five-year treatment with tamoxifen has been for long time the gold standard in adjuvant settings. In post-menopausal women affected by breast cancer larger than 3 cm and expressing estrogen receptors (ER+), clinical trials have shown that few months treatment with aromatase inhibitors can downsizing tumors...

Some authors believe that (SPF) is prognostic factor in ovarian cancer. AIM OF THE STUDY: Evaluation of prognostic significance of S phase fraction in ovarian cancer patients determined by flow cytometric (FC) analysis. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Percent of S phase fraction by FC was investigated in group of 102 ovarian cancer patients from freshfrozen samples...

The experience of the treatment of 138 patients with widespread forms of ovarian cancer within the period of 1998 to 2002 is described. The efficacies of the palliative treatment methods in improvement of the life quality and increase of the lifespan of the patients were compared. The results showed that combination of the chemotherapy with the subsequent citoreductive surgical interventions was advantageous. Such a treatment provided not only increase of the average lifespan of the patients from 13 to 23 months but also improvement of the life quality in 77...
