BACKGROUND: Suicidal ideation (SI) disproportionately impacts individuals with minoritized race/ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation. Minority stress - i.e., traumatic, insidious distress that results from acts of discrimination - may lead to the formation of posttraumatic cognitions that may generalize to suicidal ideation, elevating SI risk in minoritized populations. The current study aimed to test this potential relationship by examining whether minority stress and posttraumatic cognitions accounted for the association between discrimination and SI...

We report a facile strategy to prepare chitosan (CS) hydrogels that eliminates the need for chemical crosslinking for advanced biomedical therapies. This approach gives controlled properties to the hydrogels by incorporating a natural bioactive phenolic compound, phloroglucinol (PG), into their microstructure. The adsorption of PG onto CS chains enhanced the hydrogels' antioxidant activity by up to 25 % and resulted in a denser, more entangled structure, reducing the pore size by 59 μm while maintaining porosity above 94 %...

Fibrosis-related diseases (FRD) include conditions like myocardial fibrosis, pulmonary fibrosis, hepatic fibrosis, renal fibrosis, and others. The impact of fibrosis can be severe, causing organ dysfunction, reduced functionality, and even organ failure, leading to significant health issues. Currently, there is a lack of effective modern anti-fibrosis drugs in clinical practice. However, Chinese medicine has a certain beneficial effect on the treatment of such diseases. Angelica sinensis, with its considerable medicinal value, has garnered attention for its anti-fibrosis properties in recent investigations...

AIMS: Chemotherapy resistance is an important cause of neoadjuvant therapy failure in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). BiTP is a single antibody that can simultaneously and dually target transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) and programmed cell death 1 ligand 1 (PD-L1). We attempted in this study to investigate the efficacy of BiTP in combination with first-line chemotherapy in PDAC. METHODS: Preclinical assessments of BiTP plus gemcitabine and nab-paclitaxel were completed through a resectable KPC mouse model (C57BL/6J)...

Cryptococcus neoformans ( C. neoformans ) and Candida albicans ( C. albicans ) are classified as the critical priority groups among the pathogenic fungi, highlighting the urgent need for developing more effective antifungal therapies. On the basis of antifungal natural product sampangine, herein, a series of tricyclic oxime and oxime ether derivatives were designed. Among them, compound WZ-2 showed excellent inhibitory activity against C. neoformans (MIC80 = 0.016 μg/mL) and synergized with fluconazole to treat resistant C...

Sézary syndrome is an aggressive leukemic expansion of skin derived malignant CD4+ T cells. Drug monotherapy often results in disease relapse due to the heterogenous nature of malignant CD4+ T cells, but how therapies can be optimally combined remains unclear due to limitations in understanding the disease pathogenesis. We identified immunologic transitions that interlink mycosis fungoides (MF) with Sézary syndrome (SS) using single-cell transcriptome analysis in parallel with high-throughput TCR sequencing...

This article examines the complex interactions between inflammatory rheumatic diseases (IRDs) and men's health. It delves into the effects of IRDs on reproductive health, erectile dysfunction, prostate involvement, male osteoporosis, body composition, physical activity, and coping mechanisms. The findings show that the prevalence of sexual dysfunction varies among different diseases, underscoring the necessity for comprehensive counseling. The link between IRDs and prostate health, with a substantial rise in benign prostatic hyperplasia among IRD patients, demonstrates the condition's importance...

Hence, there is an urgent need for the rational design of highly efficient antioxidants to treat AP. Herein, an optimized Cu-based metal-organic framework (MOF) nanozyme with exceptional antioxidant activity is introduced, designed to effectively alleviate AP, by engineering the metal coordination centers in MN2Cl2 (M = Co, Ni, Cu)...

In the realm of glioma treatment, our groundbreaking research has uncovered the pivotal role of Integrin Beta 2 (ITGB2) in non-apoptotic cell death and its profound implications for immunotherapy efficacy. Gliomas, known for their aggressive and infiltrative nature, demand innovative therapeutic strategies for improved patient outcomes. Our study bridges a critical gap by examining the interplay between non-apoptotic cell death and immunotherapy response in gliomas. While the role of physical activity in primary prevention is unequivocal, its significance in secondary prevention (among those with preexisting cardiovascular disease) is less definitive. Though guidelines universally recommend physical activity as part of the secondary preventive strategy, the empirical evidence underpinning these recommendations is not as robust as that for primary prevention...

Currently, a diagnosis with KRAS mutant pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) means a death warrant, so finding efficient therapeutic options is a pressing issue. Here, we presented that pharmacologic ascorbate, chloroquine and resveratrol co-treatment exerted a synergistic cytotoxic effect on PDAC cell lines. The observed synergistic cytotoxicity was a general feature in all investigated cancer cell lines independent of the KRAS mutational status and seems to be independent of the autophagy inhibitory effect of chloroquine...

Lysosomes play a central role in biochemical signal transduction and oxidative stress in cells. Inducing lysosome membrane penetration (LMP) to cause lysosomal-dependent cell death (LCD) in tumor cells is an effective strategy for cancer therapy. Chemical drugs can destroy the stability of lysosomes by neutralizing protons within the lysosomes or enhancing the fragility of the lysosomal membranes. However, there remain several unsolved problems of traditional drugs in LMP induction due to insufficient lysosomal targeting, fast metabolism, and toxicity in normal cells...

Echinococcus granulosus is predominantly found in the liver and can be effectively managed through antihelminthic therapy, surgical intervention, or interventional radiology. Percutaneous treatment (PT) has gained widespread popularity due to its minimally invasive nature. An integral step in surgical and PT procedures involves the utilization of protoscolicidal agents to eliminate the parasites. However, the administration of protoscolicidal agents carries the risk of inducing caustic sclerosing cholangitis (SC) if there is a communication between the cyst and the biliary tract...
