β-lactam antibiotics, such as penicillin share a very unstable chemical structure. In water-based solutions, such as those used for clinical applications, the β-lactam ring is readily opened due to a nucleophilic or electrophilic attack, leading to the loss of antimicrobial activity. Since the achievement and maintenance of optimum therapeutic levels of β-lactam antibiotics is critical for the resolution of many infectious clinical situations, and to avoid antibiotic resistance generation, the design of new non-aqueous dosage forms is urgent...

A novel ternary hydrosulphonyl-based deep eutectic solvent (THS-DES) comprised of choline chloride/itaconic acid/3-mercaptopropionic acid (molar ratio 2:1:1) was firstly synthesized. The composition, property and microscopic structure of the new magnetic adsorbent (THS-DES@M-GO) based on the THS-DES modified the magnetic graphene oxide (M-GO) was characterized by the system. Magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) based THS-DES@M-GO was firstly researched for the removal of mercury (Hg2+ ) from water. Various influencing factors such as the mass of adsorbent, solution pH, initial Hg2+ concentration, the removal time and temperature had been systematically tested...

Three types of choline chloride based deep eutectic solvents were prepared and used to modify magnetic chitosan. The adsorption capacity of the three deep-eutectic-solvent-modified magnetic chitosan/carboxymethyl-β-cyclodextrin for removing methyl orange from wastewater was examined. The different deep eutectic solvents were used to strengthen the adsorption capacity of magnetic chitosan. Deep-eutectic-solvent-modified magnetic chitosan/carboxymethyl-β-cyclodextrin materials were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area measurements...

Transferrin (TrF) is a very important human body glycoprotein and a clinical biomarker which controls the body's iron ion channels and iron ion balance. Any change in TrF concentration and isoform also reflects the emergence of some diseases. In this work, we prepared magnetic molecularly imprinted nanoparticles (deep eutectic solvent-molecular imprinting polymers [DES-MIPs]) with a deep eutectic solvent (DES) as a functional monomer to separate TrF in human serum. The DES dosage for MIP, pH value, and time for adsorption have been optimized, and these materials show special adsorption properties for TrF...

A new ternary deep eutectic solvent was adopted as a functional monomer. The materials obtained were characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, NMR spectroscopy, and powder X-ray diffraction...

In this study, chitin was exclusively extracted from shrimp shells (Marsupenaeus japonicas) through a green solvent called deep eutectic solvent (DES), and various types of DES were utilized to extract chitin. The physicochemical properties of the obtained chitin were compared with the conventional method. A high purity of chitin was obtained while using DES-8 (choline chloride-malonic acid) with a yield of 19.41% ± 1.35%, and purity was confirmed using 13 C nuclear magnetic resonance. The DES-produced chitin was utilized to produce chitin films and was compared with standard chitin films...

In this work, for the first time, ferrofluid of magnetic montmorillonite nanoclay and deep eutectic solvent was prepared and coupled with directly suspended droplet microextraction. Incorporation of ferrofluid in a miniaturized sample preparation technique resulted in achieving high extraction efficiency while developing a green analytical method. The prepared ferrofluid has strong sorbing properties and hydrophobic characteristics. In this method, a micro-droplet of ferrofluid was suspended into the vortex of a stirring aqueous solution and after completing the extraction process, was easily separated from the solution by a magnetic rod without any operational problems...

A magnetized molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) was prepared via a surface-imprinting technique. An allyl-based deep eutectic solvent was chosen as the functional monomer to obtain the polymer for specific recognition of lysozyme. It was deposited on silica-coated magnetite nanoparticles. The structure of the polymer was confirmed by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectrometry, transmission electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and vibrating sample magnetometry. The maximum binding capacity of the imprinted polymer is found to be 108 mg·g-1 , which is higher than that of non-imprinted polymer...

A facile headspace single drop microextraction method was developed using deep eutectic solvent-based magnetic bucky gel as the extraction solvent for the first time. The hydrophobic magnetic bucky gel was formed by combining choline chloride/chlorophenol deep eutectic solvent and magnetic multiwalled carbon nanotube nanocomposite. Magnetic susceptibility, high viscosity, high sorbing ability, and tunable extractability of organic analytes are the desirable advantages of the prepared gel. Using a rod magnet as a suspensor in combination with the magnetic susceptibility of the prepared gel resulted in a highly stable droplet...

The magnetism nature of the proposed nanoadsorbent proceeded the clean-up step conveniently and swiftly (∼5min), pursued by a further enrichment via a highly effective and rapid emulsification microextraction process (∼4min) based on a deep eutectic solvent (DES). Finally, the instrumental analysis step was practicable via high performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet detection...

Herein, we report the direct synthesis of carboxamide-functionalized graphene oxide (carboxamide-f-GO) for the development of new nanocatalysts, with highly dispersed particles, through covalent functionalization with a facile and direct strategy. This surface functionalization was carried out through a one-pot sequential four-component Ugi reaction. Subsequently, the Ugi-ligand decorated on the surface of the graphene oxide sheets coordinated with copper nanoparticles (Cu NPs) and finally covered with magnetic nanoparticles...

This study has been undertaken with an aim to investigate the suitability of the deep eutectic solvents (DES)-based systems for magnetic resonance imaging studies. DESs are used to develop the systems, keeping in mind the fact that these are relatively less toxic than ionic liquids, and hence, DES based magnetic compound is expected to be relatively less toxic than magnetic ionic liquids. In this work, spin-lattice (T1 ) relaxation measurements are carried out in the binary mixtures of deep eutectic solvent with a paramagnetic component choliniumtetrachloroferrate ([Ch][FeCl4 ])...

Magnetic graphene nanoparticles coated with a new deep eutectic solvent (Fe3 O4 @GO-DES) were developed for efficient preconcentration of methadone. The extracted methadone was then analyzed by gas chromatography-flame ionization detection (GC-FID) or gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Fe3 O4 @GO-DES were characterized by Fourier transform IR and X-ray diffraction techniques. Ultrasound was used to enhance the dispersion of the sorbent, with a high extraction recovery. Some parameters affecting the extraction recovery, such as pH, type of deep eutectic solvent, sample volume, amount of sorbent, extraction time, and type of eluent, were investigated...
