A new simple, fast and environmentally friendly deep eutectic solvent based dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DES-based DLLME) methodology assisted by vortex is presented for the separation and preconcentration of three elements (i.e., Fe, Cu and Pb) from edible oil samples (i.e., soybean, sunflower, rapeseed, sesame, and olive oil) prior to the determination by microwave-induced plasma optical emission spectrometry (MIP-OES). The deep eutectic solvent selected as extractant (i.e., choline chloride and ethylene glycol, 1:2) is synthesized and characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1 H NMR) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and the extraction conditions are optimized by a two steps experimental design...

To address the challenges of low recovery, prolonged extraction times, and environmental pollution caused by toxic solvents in traditional extraction methods, magnetic bead-enhanced deep eutectic solvent mechanochemical extraction was developed for extracting natural products from orange peels. The extraction efficiencies of deep eutectic solvents were experimentally evaluated, and theoretical methods were used to guide solvent selection. Choline chloride-ethylene glycol demonstrated the highest efficiency under the optimal extraction conditions: a molar ratio of 1:2, no water content, a solid-liquid ratio of 0...

This work introduces a 3D-printed portable electroplating device for the visualization of latent fingerprints (LFPs) on metallic substrates. An electroplating solution of Ag+ -Cu2+ in a deep eutectic solvent (DES) is used. The electroplating is performed by two electrodes equivalent to an anode (+) and a cathode (-). The cathode is connected to the metal surface with the magnetic or alligator clip for carrying the LFP. The anode is connected to cotton dipped in the electroplating solution. The device was optimized in terms of the electroplating solution composition, and electroplating potential, current, and time...

The study explored ferulic acid extraction from palm empty fruit bunch (EFB) fiber using deep eutectic solvent (DES) of chlorine chloride-acetic acid as the extraction medium and the way to recover and recycle the DES thereafter. Antisolvent was added to selectively precipitate the ferulic acid, which was recovered by filtration thereafter. Recycling the DES without further purification led to increased ferulic acid yield with each subsequent extraction, likely due to retained ferulic acid. The retained ferulic acid and other impurities could be removed by precipitation brought upon by the addition of a second antisolvent...

The laccase-catalyzed oxidation of hydroxytyrosol (HT) towards the formation of its bioactive oligomer derivatives was investigated. The biocatalytic oligomerization was catalyzed by laccase from Trametes versicolor in aqueous or various water-miscible organic solvents and deep eutectic solvent (DES)-based media. Mass Spectroscopy and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance were used for the characterization of the products. The solvent system used significantly affects the degree of HT oligomerization. The use of 50% v/v methanol favored the production of the HT dimer, while other organic solvents as well as DESs led to the formation of hydroxytyrosol trimer and other oligomers...

In this work, the potential synergetic effect between deep eutectic solvents and an antibiotic chiral selector (clindamycin phosphate) for enantioseparation was investigated in capillary electrophoresis. We synthesized a series of deep eutectic solvents with choline chloride as hydrogen bond acceptor and three α-hydroxyl acids (l-lactic acid, l-malic acid, and l-tartaric acid) as hydrogen bond donors. Compared to the single clindamycin phosphate separation system, significantly improved separations of model drugs were observed in several synergetic systems...

BACKGROUND: Pretreatment techniques should be introduced before metal ion determination because there is very low content of heavy metals in Chinese medicinal plants and environmental samples. Magnetic dispersive micro solid phase extraction (MDMSPE) has been widely used for the separation and adsorption of heavy metal pollutants in medicinal plants and environmental samples. However, the majority of MDMSPE adsorbents have certain drawbacks, including low selectivity, poor anti-interference ability, and small adsorption capacity...

Cryopreservation, one of the most effective preservation methods, is essential for maintaining the safety and quality of food. However, there is no denying the fact that the quality of muscle food deteriorates as a result of the unavoidable production of ice. Advancements in cryoregulatory materials and techniques have effectively mitigated the adverse impacts of ice, thereby enhancing the standard of freezing preservation. The first part of this overview explains how ice forms, including the theoretical foundations of nucleation, growth, and recrystallization as well as the key influencing factors that affect each process...
