Acculturation/enculturation has been found to impact childhood health and obesity status. The objective of this study is to use cross-sectional data to examine the association between proxies of adult/caregiver acculturation/enculturation and child health status (Body Mass Index [BMI], waist circumference [WC], and acanthosis nigricans [AN]) in the U.S.-Affiliated Pacific Islands (USAPI), Alaska, and Hawai'i. Study participants were from the Children's Healthy Living (CHL) Program, an environmental intervention trial and obesity prevalence survey...

Posterior semicircular canal dehiscence (PSCD) has been demonstrated to result in a third mobile window mechanism (TMWM) in the inner ear similar to superior semicircular canal dehiscence (SSCD). Typical clinical and instrumental features of TMWM, including low-frequency conductive hearing loss (CHL), autophony, pulsatile tinnitus, sound/pressure-induced vertigo and enhanced vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials, have been widely described in cases with PSCD. Nevertheless, video-head impulse test (vHIT) results have been poorly investigated...

In this work, a series of pyrrolidinone-containing 2-phenylpyridine derivatives were synthesized and evaluated as novel protoporphyrinogen IX oxidase (PPO, EC 1.3.3.4) inhibitors for herbicide development. At 150 g ai/ha, compounds 4d , 4f , and 4l can inhibit the grassy weeds of Echinochloa crus-galli ( EC ), Digitaria sanguinalis ( DS ), and Lolium perenne ( LP ) with a range of 60 to 90%. Remarkably, at 9.375 g ai/ha, these compounds showed 100% inhibition effects against broadleaf weeds of Amaranthus retroflexus ( AR ) and Abutilon theophrasti ( AT ), which were comparable to the performance of the commercial herbicides flumioxazin (FLU) and saflufenacil (SAF) and better than that of acifluorfen (ACI)...

Few data are known regarding the use of interim positron emission tomography (iPET) after the first two cycles (iPET2) of chemotherapy in treatment-naïve classical Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL) in routine clinical practice, and about the real-life adoption of intensification strategies for iPET positive patients. We conducted a multicenter retrospective study on cHL to investigate the use of iPET in the real-life setting, its prognostic role and outcomes of patients early shifted to intensification. Six hundreds and forty-one patients were enrolled (62% had advanced stage)...

Cyanobacteria, red algae, and cryptophytes produce two classes of proteins for light-harvesting: water-soluble phycobiliproteins and membrane-intrinsic proteins that bind chlorophylls and carotenoids. In cyanobacteria, red algae, and glaucophytes, phycobilisomes (PBS) are complexes of brightly colored phycobiliproteins and linker (assembly) proteins. To date, six structural classes of phycobilisomes have been described: hemiellipsoidal, block-shaped, hemidiscoidal, bundle-shaped, paddle-shaped, and far-red-light bicylindrical...

Arsenic (As) contamination in rice poses a significant threat to human health due to its toxicity and widespread consumption. Identifying and manipulating key genes governing As accumulation in rice is crucial for reducing this threat. The large NIP gene family of aquaporins in rice presents a promising target due to functional redundancy, potentially allowing for gene manipulation without compromising plant growth. This study aimed to utilize genome editing to generate knock-out (KO) lines of genes of NIP family (OsLsi1, OsNIP3;1) and an anion transporter family (OsLsi2), in order to assess their impact on As accumulation and stress tolerance in rice...

Additionally, the specific mechanisms underlying the effects of BC and Mg NPs on salinity in Physalis alkekengi L. remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate the synergistic effects of BC and Mg NPs on P. alkekengi L. under salinity stress conditions. Breakdown of chlorophyll (Chl), as studied in angiosperms, follows the pheophorbide a oxygenase/phyllobilin (PaO/PB) pathway, furnishing linear tetrapyrroles, named phyllobilins (PBs). In an investigation with fern leaves we have discovered iso-phyllobilanones (iPBs) with an intriguingly rearranged and oxidized carbon skeleton. We report here a key second group of iPBs from the fern and on their structure analysis. Previously, these additional Chl-catabolites escaped their characterization, since they exist in aqueous media as mixtures of equilibrating isomers...

Due to substantial topographic variations in the Himalaya, incident solar radiation in the forest canopy is highly unequal. This results in significant environmental differences at finer scales and may lead to considerable differences in photosynthetic productivity in montane forests. Therefore, local-scale ecophysiological investigations, may be more effective and instructive than landscape-level inventories and models. We investigated leaf ecophysiological differences and related adaptations between two Quercus semecarpifolia forests in aspect-mediated, significantly varying light regimes in the same mountain catchment...

Photosystem I (PSI) is one of the two main pigment-protein complexes where the primary steps of oxygenic photosynthesis take place. This review describes low-temperature frequency-domain experiments (absorption, emission, circular dichroism, resonant and non-resonant hole-burned spectra) and modeling efforts reported for PSI in recent years. In particular, we focus on the spectral hole-burning studies, which are not as common in photosynthesis research as the time-domain spectroscopies. Experimental and modeling data obtained for trimeric cyanobacterial Photosystem I (PSI3 ), PSI3 mutants, and PSI3 -IsiA18 supercomplexes are analyzed to provide a more comprehensive understanding of their excitonic structure and excitation energy transfer (EET) processes...

The GLK gene family plays a crucial role in the regulation of chloroplast development and participates in chlorophyll synthesis. However, the precise mechanism by which GLK contributes to citrus's chlorophyll synthesis remains elusive. The GLK gene family causes variations in the photosynthetic capacity and chlorophyll synthesis of different citrus varieties. In this study, we identified tissue-specific members and the key CcGLKs involved in chlorophyll synthesis. A total of thirty CcGLK transcription factors (TFs) were discovered in the citrus genome, distributed across all nine chromosomes...
