A new triple molybdate, Rb2 Ag1+3x In1-x (MoO4 )3 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.02), was found in the course of a study of the system Rb2 MoO4 -Ag2 MoO4 -In2 (MoO4 )3 and was synthesized as both powders and single crystals by solid-state reactions and spontaneous crystallization from melts. The structure of Rb2 Ag1+3x In1-x (MoO4 )3 (x ≉ 0.004) is of a new type crystallizing in the centrosymmetric space group R-3c [a = 10.3982 (9), c = 38.858 (4) Å, Z = 12 and R = 0.0225] and contains (In,Ag)O6 octahedra and distorted Ag1O6 trigonal prisms linked by common faces to form [Ag(In,Ag)O9 ] dimers connected to each other via MoO4 tetrahedra into an open three-dimensional (3D) framework...

Fluid petroleum coke generated at oil sands operations in the Athabasca Oil Sands Region of northern Alberta, Canada, contains elevated concentrations of molybdenum (Mo) and other metals including nickel (Ni) and vanadium (V). Solid-phase Mo concentrations in fluid petroleum coke are typically 10 to 100 times lower than V and Ni, yet dissolved Mo concentrations in associated pore waters are often comparable with these metals. We collected pore water and solids from fluid petroleum coke deposits in the AOSR to examine geochemical controls on Mo mobility...

The catalysts towards the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) are the key materials for fuel cells and have stimulated continuous investigations on rational designs. Apart from the popular strategies reported, we demonstrate here a facile method resulting in a nanocomposite composed of molybdenum carbide (Mo2C) nanoparticles embedded and buried in Fe-N-doped carbon nanolayers by directly pyrolyzing the mixture of Fe2(MoO4)3 and dicyandiamide. The underlying Mo2C donates electrons of higher energy to the exterior N-containing carbon nanolayers (NC) and strongly couples with the active sites induced by Fe in the NC layer, leading to significant improvement at half-wave potential with respect to the control sample without Mo2C...

The organic-inorganic title salt, (C6 H16 N)2 [MoO4 ] or ( i Pr2 NH2 )2 [MoO4 ], was obtained by reacting MoO3 with diiso-propyl-amine in a 1:2 molar ratio in water. The molybdate anion is located on a twofold rotation axis and exhibits a slightly distorted tetra-hedral configuration. In the crystal structure, the diiso-propyl-ammmonium ( i Pr2 NH2 )+ cations and [MoO4 ]2- anions are linked to each other through N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, generating rings with R 12 12 (36) motifs that give rise to the formation of a three-dimensional network...

Multi-shelled binary metal oxide which can exert a synergetic effect of different oxides, is promising electrochemical electrode material. However, it is challenging to synthesize this kind of binary metal oxides due to the severe hydrolysis and/ or precipitation reactions of the precursors between cations and anions of different metals. Herein, by using citric acid as chelating agent to inhibit the hydrolysis and precipitation reactions, a series of multi-shelled binary metal oxide hollow spheres (Fe2 (MoO4 )3 , NiMoO4 , MnMoO4 , CoWO4 , MnWO4 , etc...

A facile sol-gel process was used for synthesis of LiFe(MoO4 )2 microcrystals. The effects of sintering temperature on the microstructures and electrochemical performances of the as-synthesized samples were systematically investigated through XRD, SEM and electrochemical performance characterization. When sintered at 650°C, the obtained LiFe(MoO4 )2 microcrystals show regular shape and uniform size distribution with mean size of 1-2 μm. At the lower temperature (600°C), the obtained LiFe(MoO4 )2 microcrystals possess relative inferior crystallinity, irregular morphology and vague grain boundary...

This paper presents for the first time the fabrication of dielectric ceramic parts by 3D printing without sintering. The printable paste was prepared by mixing a carefully selected amount of water-soluble Li2 MoO4 powder with water. A viscous mixture of solid ceramic particles and saturated aqueous phase was formed with a solid content of 60.0 vol.%. Printing of the sample discs was conducted with material extrusion using a low-cost syringe-style 3D printer. The consolidation and densification of the printed parts occurred during both printing and drying of the paste due to extrusion pressure, capillary forces, and recrystallization of the dissolved Li2 MoO4 ...

A continuous FeMo-cofactor supply for nitrogenase maturation is ensured in Azotobacter vinelandii by developing a cage-like molybdenum storage protein (MoSto) capable to store ca. 120 molybdate molecules (MoO4 2- ) as discrete polyoxometalate (POM) clusters. To gain mechanistic insight into this process MoSto was characterized by Mo and ATP/ADP content, structural and kinetic analysis. We defined three functionally relevant states specified by the presence of both ATP/ADP and POM clusters (MoStofunct ), of only ATP/ADP (MoStobasal ) and of neither ATP/ADP nor POM clusters (MoStozero ), respectively...

[NH4 Cu(OH)MoO4 ] as active photocatalyst in the decomposition of Congo Red when irradiated by UV or visible light has been prepared in an unusual ammonia/water ligand exchange reaction of [tetraamminecopper(II)] molybdate, [Cu(NH3 )4 ]MoO4 . [Cu(NH3 )4 ]MoO4 was subjected to moisture of open air at room temperature. Light blue orthorhombic [Cu(NH3 )(H2 O)3 ]MoO4 was formed in 2 days as a result of an unexpected solid/gas phase ammonia-water ligand exchange reaction. This complex does not lose its last ammonia ligand on further standing in open air; however, a slow quasi-intramolecular (self)-protonation reaction takes place in 2-4 weeks, producing a yellowish-green microcrystalline material, which has been identified as a new compound, [NH4 Cu(OH)MoO4 ], ( a = 10,5306 Å, b = 6...

Temperature-dependent Raman spectroscopic study has been performed on scheelite-type sodium‑cerium molybdate - NaCe(MoO4 )2 - in the temperature range 113-873 K. This study provides phonon properties of NaCe(MoO4 )2 , which are very important to understand the mechanism governing eventual phase transitions undergone by the structure, since phonons are very sensitive to structural changes. The ambient scheelite phase remains stable in a low-temperature range (113-293 K), and no relevant modification is observed in the Raman spectra...

Anthropogenic nitrate contamination is a serious problem in many natural environments. Nitrate removal by microbial action is dependent on the metal molybdenum (Mo), which is required by nitrate reductase for denitrification and dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium. The soluble form of Mo, molybdate (MoO4 2- ), is incorporated into and adsorbed by iron (Fe) and aluminum (Al) (oxy)hydroxide minerals. Herein we used Oak Ridge Reservation (ORR) as a model nitrate-contaminated acidic environment to investigate whether the formation of Fe- and Al- precipitates could impede microbial nitrate removal by depleting Mo...

When osteochondral tissues suffer from focal or degenerative lesions caused by trauma or disorders, it is a tough challenge to regenerate them because of the limited self-healing capacity of articular cartilage. In this study, a series of Mo-doped bioactive glass ceramic (Mo-BGC) scaffolds were prepared and then systematically characterized. The released MoO4 2- ions from 7.5Mo-BGC scaffolds played a vital role in regenerating articular cartilage and subchondral bone synchronously. Methods: The Mo-BGC scaffolds were fabricated through employing both a sol-gel method and 3D printing technology...

In this study, we report the antibacterial activity and modulation of antibiotic activity by Fe2 (MoO4 )3 microstructures obtained by the hydrothermal route without use of surfactants or organic additives. This material was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images. The XRD pattern showed that the Fe2 (MoO4 )3 crystallize in a monoclinic structure without secondary phases. Raman spectroscopy confirms the formation of Fe2 (MoO4 )3 . SEM images show that the Fe2 (MoO4 )3 obtained have ball-of-yarn shaped morphology...

Rare earth (RE3+)-doped NaY(MoO4)2 nanocrystals are efficient materials for realizing multicolor emission, which plays an important role in displays, W-LEDs, solar cells and biolabeling. Up to now, research on the multicolor tuning properties of RE3+-doped NaY(MoO4)2 nanoparticles has mostly focused on traditional preparation routes such as the hydrothermal method and sol-gel process. However, the products obtained using these methods are usually large in size (on the micron/submicron scale) and agglomeration problems are inevitable...

Searching for cationic extended materials with a capacity for anion exchange resulted in a unique thorium molybdate chloride (TMC) with the formula of [Th(MoO4 )(H2 O)4 Cl]Cl·H2 O. The structure of TMC is composed of zigzagging cationic layers [Th(MoO4 )(H2 O)4 Cl]+ with Cl- as interlamellar charge-balancing anions. Instead of performing ion exchange, alkali thorium fluorides were formed after soaking TMC in AF (A = Na, K, and Cs) solutions. The mechanism of AF immobilization is elucidated by the combination of SEM-EDS, PXRD, FTIR, and EXAFS spectroscopy...
