Anisotropic growth of nanomaterials enables advances in building diverse and complex architectures, which exhibit unique properties and enrich the choice of nano-building modules for electrochemical sensor devices. Herein, an anisotropic growth method was proposed to anchor gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) onto both ends of quasi-two-dimensional CdSe semiconductor quantum nanoplatelets (NPLs), appearing with a monodisperse and uniform nano-dumbbell shape. Then, these AuNPs were exploited as natural anchor points and further initiated self-assembly to create complex architectures via dithiol bridges...

Photocatalyzed reactions of organic substances in aqueous media are challenging transformations, often because of scarce solubility of substrates and catalyst deactivation. Herein, we report single-chain nanoparticles, SCNPs, capable of efficiently catalyzing four different "in water" organic reactions by employing visible light as the only external energy source. Specifically, we decorated a high-molecular-weight copolymer, poly(OEGMA300 - r -AEMA), with iridium(III) cyclometalated complex pendants at varying content amounts...

Copper iodide, an environmentally friendly material abundant in nature, holds great significance for room temperature thermoelectric (TE) applications owing to its high Seebeck coefficient and optical transparency. However, to fully unlock its thermoelectric potential and match the performance of conventional TE materials, there is a need to further enhance its electrical conductivity. In this study, we have successfully synthesized nano-crystalline powders of both undoped and aluminium-doped CuI at room temperature using the chemical precipitation method in an ethanol medium...

The advancements in the field of micro-robots for drug delivery systems have garnered considerable attention. In contrast to traditional drug delivery systems, which are dependent on blood circulation to reach their target, these engineered micro/nano robots possess the unique ability to navigate autonomously, thereby enabling the delivery of drugs to otherwise inaccessible regions. Precise drug delivery systems can improve the effectiveness and safety of synthetic lethality strategies, which are used for targeted therapy of solid tumors...

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are nano-sized lipid-membrane vesicles involved in intercellular communication and reflecting the physiological and pathological processes of their parental cells. Rapid isolation of EVs with low cost is an essential precondition for downstream function exploration and clinical applications. In this work, we designed a novel EVs isolation device based on the boronated organic framework (BOF) coated recyclable microfluidic chip (named EVs-BD) to separate EVs from cell culture media...

In this study, we explore the superchaotropic effect of various polyoxometalate or boron cluster nano-ions on hydrophilic neutral surfaces. Nano-ions, characterized by low charge densities, exhibit strong adsorption on non-ionic hydrophilic surfaces like PEGylated micelles. This adsorption phenomenon was attributed to the enthalpically favorable dehydration of nano-ions, the so-called superchaotropic effect. Here, we investigate the adsorption of three nano-ions, α-SiW12 O40 4- , α-PW12 O40 3- , and B12 I12 2- , with decreasing charge density or increasing superchaotropicity (or hydrophobicity), on hydrophilic solid surfaces, PEGylated gold nanoparticles, and PEGylated gold-coated quartz crystal...

Considering the importance of physics and chemistry at material interfaces, we have explored the coupling of multinary chalcogenide semiconductor Cu2 NiSnS4 nanoparticles (CNTS NPs) for the first time with the noble metal (Au) to form Au-CNTS nano-heterostructures (NHSs). The Au-CNTS NHSs is synthesized by a simple facile hot injection method. Synergistic experimental and theoretical approaches are employed to characterize the structural, optical, and electrical properties of the Au-CNTS NHSs. The absorption spectra demonstrate enhanced and broadened optical absorption in the ultraviolet-visible-near-infrared (UV-Vis-NIR) region, which is corroborated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) readings...

Herein, MnO2 nanosheet hold on the surface of Antibody cTnT (Ab-cTnT) conjugated blue emitting up conversion nanoprobe (λem at 475 nm), which leads to quenching of fluorescence due to energy transfer from photon up conversion nanoparticles to MnO2 nanosheets. Size plays a crucial role in chemistry and material science. Subnanometer polyoxometalate (POM) clusters have gained attention in various fields, but their use in thermoelectrics is still limited. To address this issue, we propose the POM clusters as an effective second phase to enhance the thermoelectric properties of Bi0.4 Sb1.6 Te3 . Thanks to their subnanometer size, POM clusters improve electrical transport behavior through the superposition of atomic orbitals and the interfacial scattering effect. Furthermore, their ultrasmall size strongly reduces thermal conductivity...

The development of a new generation of anticorrosion pigments for paints remains an important challenge to replace the usual sparingly-soluble pigments and thus avoid the dissemination of heavy metals in the environment and the formation of holes in polymer coatings. For this purpose, α-zirconium hydrogenophosphate (Zr(HPO4 )2 ·H2 O, denoted as α-ZrP) was intercalated with the corrosion inhibitor 2-aminobenzimidazole (ABIM). Various microstructural analyses have proven the insertion of ABIM in the interlayer space by an acid-base exchange reaction and allowed us to propose a structural model for the new ABIM-ZrP pigment...

We consider a range of values of the nematicities, U , and simulation domain sizes, R , that canvass nano-sized polygons to micron-sized polygons. We use closure arguments to define mappings between the N-MPCD parameters and the parameters in the continuum deterministic Landau-de Gennes framework. The averaged N-MPCD configurations agree with those predicted by Landau-de Gennes theory, at least for large polygons...

Direct analysis of solid samples is always challenging for ionic sensors due to solidified elemental presence and matrix interference. In this work, a "three-phase transforming" technique was first established to make solid sampling elemental sensors and visual detection possible in the future. For Cd transforming from soil samples, a metal ceramic heater (MCH) electrothermal vaporizer (ETV) coupled with a dielectric barrier discharge quartz trap (DBD-QT) was first utilized to fulfill the solid sampling and preconcentration of Cd in soil; for on-site analysis, a colorimetric sensor based on the trithiocyanuric acid (TMT) functionalized gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) was chosen as a chromogenic analysis model...
