Posaconazole (PCZ) is a triazole antifungal agent with an extended spectrum of antifungal activity. It is approved for the prophylaxis of invasive fungal infections in patients with neutropenia or in haematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients undergoing high-dose immunosuppressive therapy for graft-versus-host disease, and for the treatment of fungal infections. However, its pharmacological effects are severely limited owing to its poor solubility and low bioavailability. In order to solve these problems, a sulfobutyl ether-β-cyclodextrin (SBE-β-CD) compound was used to prepare an intramuscular injection to improve the bioavailability of posaconazole...

Following the preparation of inclusion complex of cetirizine (CTZ) and β-cyclodextrin (β-CD), the compound was investigated to assess the possibility of modifying the physicochemical properties (solubility, release, stability, permeability) of CTZ after complexation that are vital for subsequent formulation studies involving the said complex. Changes in FT-IR/Raman spectra, DSC thermograms and XRD diffractograms confirmed the formation of a CTZ-β-CD system. Hydrophilic interaction chromatography with a DAD detector was employed to determine alterations of the CTZ concentration during studies following complexation...

The affinity pattern of terbutaline enantiomers towards various cyclodextrins was studied using capillary electrophoresis. The affinity pattern of terbutaline enantiomers was the same towards all studied cyclodextrins except heptakis(2-O-methyl-3,6-di-O-sulfo)-β-CD. Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy was used for understanding of fine structural mechanisms of interactions of β-cyclodextrin and its two sulfated derivatives with the enantiomers of terbutaline. The structure of terbutaline complexes with all 3 cyclodextrins studied was different from each other...

This study introduced a developed approach for dendritic β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) in order to obtain high sorption capacity. Synthetic strategy exploits the reactivity between acrylic acid and allyl glycidyl ether for high-yielding assembly via grafting on to the magnetic nanoparticles that are modified using 3-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane for various building branches and host-guest molecules of β-CD. The methodology has been applied for the preparation of a series of β-CD conjugated magnetic nanoparticles with dendrimers as a nano-sorbent for the extraction of methylprednisolone acetate...

With native β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) added into the polymerization mixture directly, a novel, convenient and low-cost one-pot strategy was developed to prepare the β-CD functionalized organic polymer monolithic capillary column. Diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (DBU) as a basic catalyst for the ring opening reaction between β-CD and glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) was introduced into the polymerization system for the first time. Thereby, two consecutive reactions namely the in situ methacrylation of β-CD and copolymerization reaction can be achieved in one pot...

For the first time, capillary electrophoresis has been successfully employed for the fast and highly efficient separations of a novel type of stereoisomers - planar rotamers (planamers) of four newly synthesized 5-nitrosopyrimidine derivatives. These derivatives can form two rotamers differing in the orientation of nitroso group due to strong intramolecular hydrogen bonds. Partial separation of rotamers of two 5-nitrosopyrimidines was achieved in alkaline 50 mM sodium tetraborate, pH 9.3, and in acidic 18...

We herein present a three-in-one nanoplatform (named Fu/LD@RuCD) for dual-drug delivery, two-photon imaging, and chemo-photodynamic synergistic therapy, enabled by simple self-assembly between adamantine-functionalized ruthenium complexes ([Ru(phen-ad)3 ](PF6 )2 , Ru) and natural cyclodextrin (β-CD) monomers. By host-guest chemistry, nanocarrier RuCD 70-90 nm in diameter is fabricated through a very simple mixing step in water at room temperature, in which the octahedral configuration of Ru complex provides a rigid skeleton and the hydrogen bonding of secondary hydroxyl groups formed between two adjacent β-CD monomers displays a bridging role allowing for three-dimensional architectures...

In the present work we are reporting the synthesis and binding interaction of a saturated fatty acid containing 9-aminoacridine derivative (AC-PA) with ct-DNA and β-cyclodextrin (β-CD). From Steady-state fluorescence experiments this newly synthesized 9-aminoacridine derivative, AC-PA, shows more efficient binding interaction with ct-DNA as compared to the 9-aminoacridine (AC). The extent of interaction of AC-PA and AC with ct-DNA was found out by calculating the fluorescence quenching by using Stern-Volmer quenching equation...

Gefitinib is anticancer drug which is sparingly soluble in water. This limits its dissolution and bioavailability. Binary inclusion complex of gefitinib with Epi-β-CD was prepared by freeze-drying method. Stoichiometric ratio of 1:1 M was established by continuous variation (Job's) plot. The stability constant of complex as determined by phase solubility study was found to be 15,871.3 M-1 . Complex was characterized by FTIR, DSC, DTA and dissolution study. Results revealed that in complex the drug no longer exist in crystalline state and is converted into amorphous form; which shows higher dissolution efficiency as compared to crystalline drug...

The migration order of the enantiomers of medetomidine in the presence of cyclodextrins studied by capillary electrophoresis in phosphate buffer, pH 2.5, depended on the cavity size and the substitution pattern of the cyclodextrins. Opposite migration order was observed in the presence of β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and γ-cyclodextrin (γ-CD) as well as randomly sulfated β-CD (S-β-CD) and heptakis(6-O-sulfo)-β-CD (HS-β-CD). This could be rationalized by the fact that dexmedetomidine formed more stable complexes with β-CD and S-β-CD, while levomedetomidine interacted stronger with γ-CD and HS-β-CD...

Beta-cyclodextrin (β-CD) is a cyclic oligosaccharide consisting of seven glucose units and is produced from starch using cyclodextrin glycotransferase enzymes to break the polysaccharide chain and forming a cyclic polysaccharide molecule. The use of β-CD in food research for reduction of cholesterol is increasing due to its affinity for non-polar molecules such as cholesterol. The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of using β-CD in cholesterol removal from pasteurized ewe's milk Manchego cheese and evaluate the effect on the main components of the milk, lipids, and flavor characteristics...
