Persistent fetal vasculature is a spectrum of ocular abnormalities linked to an incomplete regression of the fetal ocular vasculature. A 21-years old male patient came to the outpatient clinic reporting low vision and strabismus in his left eye since 3 years of age. Ophtalmological examination revealed a normal right eye, while the left eye had a best corrected visual acuity of hand-motion perception, a 30 prism diopters esotropia, a "coralliform" cataract and a vitreous stalk joining the posterior face of the lens and the optic nerve...

BACKGROUND: Cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) attaches people's attention in recent years. In this study, we aim to explore retinal structure and vessel density changes in CSVD patients. METHODS: We collected information on retinal metrics assessed by optical coherence tomography (OCT) and OCT angiography and CSVD characters. Logistic and liner regression was used to analyze the relationship between retinal metrics and CSVD. RESULTS: Vessel density of superficial retinal capillary plexus (SRCP), foveal density- 300 length (FD-300), radial peripapillary capillary (RPC) and thickness of retina were significantly lower in CSVD patients, the difference only existed in the thickness of retina after adjusted relevant risk factors (OR (95% CI): 0...

Lymphedema distichiasis syndrome is one of the most frequent phenotypes of primary lymphedema, even so, its prevalence is still low. This syndrome courses with the appearance of abnormal eyelashes and distichiasis during childhood or puberty. This can cause a notable discomfort on our patients, especially at such an early age. The clinic evaluation of this signs must make us have in mind this group of syndromes, because in the case of lymphedema distichiasis syndrome, we can certainly diagnose it with the genetic analysis of the FOXC2 gen on patient's serum...

Neisseria meningitidis represents an uncommon pathogen of acute bacterial conjunctivitis. In this brief report we describe a case of meningococcal conjunctivitis in an immunocompetent adult male, with a review of the literature. The patient went to the outpatient ophtalmology clinic complaining ofsevere ocular discomfort, burning and redness for more than 2 weeks and, at slit lamp examination, he was diagnosed with a mild conjunctivitis. Microbiology cultures of ocular swabs revealed the growth of colonies, as pure culture, identified as N...

In multiple sclerosis, remyelination trials have yet to deliver success like that achieved for relapse rates with disease course modifying treatment trials. The challenge is to have a clinical, functional outcome measure. Currently, there are none that have been validated, other than visual evoked potentials in optic neuritis. Like vision, quick eye movements (saccades) are heavily dependent on myelination. We proposed that it is possible to extrapolate from demyelination of the medial longitudinal fasciculus in the brainstem to quantitative assessment of cortical networks governing saccadic eye movements in multiple sclerosis...

The present case report focuses on an immunocompromised 81-year-old patient initially diagnosed with Waldenström's disease. The patient experienced a gradual vision loss and jaw pain with high erythrocyte sedimentation rate. We first suspected giant cell arteritis, despite inconclusive assessment, including a negative temporal artery biopsy. We rapidly started a corticosteroid pulse therapy followed by high-dose corticosteroid therapy that was followed even after discharge from the hospital. The patient was readmitted 20 days later with severe left retro-orbital pain and progressive left vision loss...

The complex physiological and pathological conditions form barriers against efficient drug delivery. Cell penetrating peptides (CPPs), a class of short peptides which translocate drugs across cell membranes with various mechanisms, provide feasible solutions for efficient delivery of biologically active agents to circumvent biological barriers. After years of development, the function of CPPs is beyond cell penetrating. Multifunctional CPPs with bioactivity or active targeting capacity have been designed and successfully utilized in delivery of various cargoes against tumor, myocardial ischemia, ocular posterior segment disorders, etc...

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic, inflammatory skin disorder that most frequently occurs in children, but it can also affect adults. Even though most AD cases can be managed with topical treatments, moderate-to-severe forms require systemic therapies. Dupilumab is the first human monoclonal antibody approved for the treatment of AD. Its action is through IL-4 receptor alpha subunit inhibition, thus blocking IL-4 and IL-13 signaling pathways. It has been shown to be an effective, well-tolerated therapy for AD, as well as for asthma, chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis (CRSwNP), and eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE)...

In most cases, vestibular schwannomas with papilledema are associated with intracranial hypertension secondary to hydrocephalus (obstructive or communicating). We describe the atypical case of a 39-years-old man who presented with bilateral papilledema revealing a vestibular schwannoma, but without hydrocephalus and with normal intracranial pressure. Ophtalmologic signs were completely resolved after tumor removal. The pathophysiological mechanism generally described to explain bilateral papilledema in such cases is tumor-induced hyperproteinorachia...
