BACKGROUND: Several studies have sought to address the role of routine preoperative MRI in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) undergoing deformity correction. Despite similar results regarding the prevalence of neuraxial anomalies detected on MRI, published conclusions conflict and give opposing recommendations. Lack of consensus has led to important variations in use of MRI before spinal surgery for patients with AIS.
