INTRODUCTION: Pseudotumor cerebri (PC) in prepubertal patients displays certain characteristics that differentiate it from its presentation at the postpubertal stage. The aim of this study is to describe the characteristics of paediatric patients diagnosed with PC at our centre and to compare them according to their pubertal status. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We included patients aged between 1 and 18 years who were diagnosed with PC in a tertiary-level hospital between 2006 and 2019 and who met the updated diagnostic criteria for PC...

PURPOSE: Clinically significant portal hypertension (CSPH), although not a contraindication for liver resection in cirrhosis, is considered a determinant prognostic factor for post-surgical outcomes. This study aims to investigate the effects of CSPH on short and long-term results after hepatic resection for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). METHODS: Single-center retrospective analysis of 126 consecutive hepatic resections for HCC in Child-Pugh A patients, performed between 2008 and 2018...

Portal hypertension is a complex syndrome caused by increased resistance to the splachnic venous flow at the portal vein level, with a hyperdynamic systemic circulation characterized by peripheral vasodilation and high cardiac output. Portal flow can be obstructed at prehepatic (¨normal liver¨), intrahepatic (as in cirrhosis), or post-hepatic level (as in Budd-Chiari syndrome). In pediatric patients, prehepatic and intrahepatic causes are almost equally distributed (nearly 50% each). Clinical presentation and individual impact are heterogeneous, but in each case, it is the expression of a worsening condition and the need to solve the problem, either by treating its consequences or (ideally) its causes...

Portopulmonary hypertension is an uncommon complication of portal hypertension, running a progressive course with a negative prognosis. Reports in pediatric patients are scarce with short follow up. We describe the case of decompensated cirrhosis who developed PoPH and resolved with liver transplantation, remaining asymptomatic after ten years of follow up.

INTRODUCTION: There are many risk factors for developing hypertension. In the XXI century, smarter ways to investigate are needed, so preventing the turning of an adolescent into a hypertensive adult must be a priority. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this paper is to predict the risk of hypertension onset in adulthood, from cardiovascular tension and risk stratification since adolescence. METHODS: A representative sample of 125 adolescents from the project "Pesquisaje Escolar en la Adolescencia de Hipertensión Arterial" (PESESCAD-HTA) was studied...

Hypertension in children and adolescents has been gaining ground in cardiovascular medicine, mainly due to the advances made in several areas of pathophysiological and clinical research. These guidelines arose from the consensus reached by specialists in the detection and control of hypertension in children and adolescents. Furthermore, these guidelines are a compendium of scientific data and the extensive clinical experience it contains represents the most complete information that doctors, nurses and families should take into account when making decisions...

UNLABELLED: It has been proved that Low Birth Weight (LBW) is a predisposing factor of elevated blood pressure in children. The aim of our study was to analyze birth weight of patients with diagnosed hypertension (HT). There has been 114 children, 6 to 17 years old, included into our study. We decided to divide them into 3 following groups: Group I--normal body mass and HT (51 children); Group II--metabolic syndrome (MS) with HT (32 children); Group III--overweight and obese children with HT (31 children)...

With the aim to create a scientific evidence of the convenience or not of removing the Multicystic Kidney (MK), a systematic review has been done over the last 20 years, selecting those articles with determinant criterions. Our experience has been also evaluated. We have obtained an evidence table of 1082 MK, with a follow-up from 2 to 7 years. No case degenerated. The complications were: urinary tract infection (UTI) in 5% and hipertensión (HTA) in 0.7%. In our serie (68 cases): nephrectomy was done in 10 cases...

Authors studied L.D.H .and Isoenzymes of L.D.H. activities in 254 C.S.F. corresponding to 112 children affected with different diseases. The purpose was to discover its diagnostic utility and possible etiological explanation. Results have been compared with reference values found in a previous study. Highest enzymatic activities of L.D.H. are observed, in decreasing order, in tumours, terminal process, endocranial hipertension plus meningitis, and meningitis. Referring to different types of meningitis, highest enzymatic activity of L...
