Laser capsulotomy is accepted as a standard and effective treatment for posterior capsule opacification. It is generally believed that neodymium:YAG (Nd:YAG) capsulotomy is related to an increased risk of retinal detachment (RD). The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between Nd:YAG capsulotomy and risk for developing RD. A PubMed and Medline search was conducted using the terms "retinal detachment" and "Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy." Of the articles retrieved by this method, all publications in English and abstracts of non-English publications were reviewed...

We describe the technique of second-wave hydrodissection (the first wave being the initial cortical cleaving hydrodissection) performed after the removal of the cataract nucleus in femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery. After femtosecond laser application, the cortex is typically found adhered to the anterior capsule. Under high magnification, a steady stream of a balanced salt solution is directed toward the anterior capsule using a hydrodissection cannula. Full cleavage of the remaining cortex is observed by noting the appearance of a dark inner circle by the capsulotomy edge once the balanced salt solution wave has separated the cortex from the capsule...

Purpose: To report two cases of panuveitis in immunocompetent patients in which cytomegalovirus was involved. Observation: Case 1 was a 46-year-old man who had a history of recurrent anterior chamber inflammations in his left eye. After Nd:YAG laser posterior capsulotomy, he developed panuveitis with vitreous haze and periphlebitis. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) examination revealed the presence of cytomegalovirus (CMV) DNA in the anterior chamber (AC). He responded well to a series of intravitreal injections of ganciclovir (GCV)...

A 77-year-old man had cataract surgery in the left eye in March 2017. A toric intraocular lens (IOL) was implanted because of astigmatism. The postoperative meridian of the IOL was located nearly exactly in the planned meridian, which was controlled 1 week later with ray-tracing aberrometry (iTrace) and the smartphone application Axis Assistant. The referring ophthalmologist proceeded directly with a neodymium:YAG (Nd:YAG) laser posterior capsulotomy in his own office, after which the meridian of the implanted toric IOL was rotated more than 115 degrees...

BACKGROUND: Capsulorhexis is one of the most important steps in cataract surgery. Good centration, circular overlap in sufficient size and a circular edge without tears result in good centration of the intraocular lens (IOL). In this study, the capsulorhexis results of an experienced surgeon are compared with reported data in femtolaser assisted cataract surgery (FLACS). PATIENTS AND METHODS: 105 consecutive operations were photographically documented; in 81 cases size and overlap were analysed retrospectively...

We describe a new approach for cataract surgery in ectopia lentis associated with an inadequately dilated pupil. A Malyugin ring 2.0 is first positioned in the eye to expand the pupil. One of the ring coils is then temporarily sutured to the limbal area with 10-0 polypropylene. With this maneuver, the pupillary expansion ring is placed in alignment with the center of the ectopic lens. Femtosecond laser anterior capsulotomy and lens fragmentation is then performed. Next, the temporary suture is released, a capsular hook(s) is placed to support the lens, and the lens is emulsified...
