Sebaceous lymphadenoma is a rare salivary gland neoplasm most commonly occurring in the sixth to eighth decades of life. Cross sectional imaging typically demonstrates a multicystic expansile mass, most commonly occurring in the parotid gland, where the radiographic differential diagnosis would include Warthin tumor in this location and age group. Ultimately, the diagnosis is confirmed with the histopathologic findings of tubuloglandular epithelial profiles with sebaceous differentiation and cystic change set within a dense, benign lymphocytic infiltrate...

BACKGROUND: Sebaceous lymphadenoma is a benign tumor that occurs rarely in the salivary glands, most commonly in the parotid glands or periparotid lymph nodes, and even more rarely undergoes malignant transformation into a sebaceous lymphadenocarcinoma. CASE SUMMARY: We report an 82-year-old woman who presented with a painless mass in the right parotid region. We performed extended surgical resection of the parotid gland mass. Intraoperative pathology revealed a sebaceous lymphadenocarcinoma with metastasis into the periparotid cervical lymph nodes, so we also performed neck dissection and lymph node resection...

Non-sebaceous lymphadenoma (NSLA) is a rare benign salivary gland tumour with lymphoid and epithelial components and without sebaceous differentiation. The large majority of the reported cases arise within the parotid gland. We present an NSLA arising from the submandibular gland. The tumour presented as a painless longstanding neck lump. Ultrasound, fine needle aspiration, MRI and positron emission tomography found features supportive of squamous cell carcinoma. The patient was treated with surgery for oropharyngeal carcinoma of unknown origin, in accordance with local and national guidelines...

CONTEXT.—: Both salivary lymphadenomas (LADs) and Warthin-like mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) contain components of epithelium and lymphoid stroma and their differential diagnosis can be difficult on the basis of morphology alone. OBJECTIVE.—: To clarify whether Warthin-like MEC was diagnosed as a LAD, and to compare their clinicopathologic features. DESIGN.—: A total of 16 LAD cases were analyzed for MAML2 rearrangement by using fluorescence in situ hybridization, and the clinical, histologic, immunohistochemical, and prognostic features were compared between MAML2 rearrangement-positive and MAML2 rearrangement-negative groups...

BACKGROUND: Salivary gland lymphadenoma (LAD) is a rare benign neoplasm comprising sebaceous (SLAD) and nonsebaceous (NSLAD) types. Despite established histologic criteria, limited data on cytomorphology, tumor heterogeneity, and overlap with other entities make the diagnosis of LAD by fine needle aspiration (FNA) challenging. We describe a multi-institutional cohort of 14 LADs with cytology, clinical, radiologic, and histopathologic data. METHODS: Our cohort included nine SLAD and five NSLAD with corresponding histopathology...

The nature of the lymphoid stromal component in Warthin tumor and lymphadenoma of the parotid gland has been a controversial topic in salivary gland pathology for decades. Two theories exist: first, that these tumors arise from salivary gland inclusions within intraparotid lymph nodes; and second, that they arise within salivary gland parenchyma and induce tumor-associated lymphoid proliferation (TALP). A recent study demonstrated that low molecular weight cytokeratin is effective in distinguishing salivary gland tumors within lymph nodes from those inducing TALP via identification of extrafollicular reticulum cells, which are only found in true lymph nodes...

Sebaceous lymphadenoma is a rare, benign tumor of the parotid gland accounting for only 0.196% of all adenomas of the parotid gland. Our aim is to present a case of sebaceous lymphadenoma, which has been rapidly enlarging over a period of few months in an immunocompromised patient. This presentation is unusual for a benign salivary gland neoplasm. A 55-year-old female who is a known case of systemic lupus erythromatous, antiphospholipid syndrome, and lupus nephritis, which have been treated by cyclophosphamide, presented with a 2-year complaint of fluctuating painless right parotid swelling, over the last 3 months the swelling started to progressively increasing in size...

Canine distemper virus (CDV) is a highly contagious pathogen transmissible to a broad range of terrestrial and aquatic carnivores. Despite the availability of attenuated vaccines against CDV, the virus remains responsible for outbreaks of canine distemper (CD) with significant morbidity and mortality in domesticated and wild carnivores worldwide. CDV uses the signaling lymphocytic activation molecule (SLAM, or CD150) and nectin-4 (PVRL4) as entry receptors, well-known tumor-associated markers for several lymphadenomas and adenocarcinomas, which are also responsible for the lysis of tumor cells and apparent tumor regression...

Non-sebaceous lymphadenoma is a sporadic benign tumor of salivary glands. Histopathologic and immunohistochemical properties, diagnostic criteria, and theories for the histologic origin of the disease have been defined and well-discussed in the literature. However, none of the cases showed malignant transformation to date. We reported a case of 54 years old female patient with a right preauricular mass. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a 2 cm, well-defined contrast-enhanced mass in the right parotid gland...

BACKGROUND: Sebaceous lymphadenomas and sebaceous lymphadenocarcinomas are uncommon neoplasms occurring predominately within the parotid gland. Cytomorphology of these neoplasms is rarely reported. Occasional reports have discussed the cytomorphological features of these neoplasms but criteria distinguishing sebaceous lymphadenomas from lymphadenocarcinomas have not been described. METHODS: The senior authors' consultation files and records of the University of Missouri were searched for all cases with a diagnosis of sebaceous adenoma, lymphadenoma, lymphadenocarcinoma, and adenocarcinoma...

INTRODUCTION: A vast increase in knowledge of numerous aspects of malignant salivary gland tumours has emerged during the last decade and, for several reasons, this has not been the case in benign epithelial salivary gland tumours. We have performed a literature review to investigate whether an accurate histological diagnosis of the 11 different types of benign epithelial salivary gland tumours is correlated to any differences in their clinical behaviour. METHODS: A search was performed for histological classifications, recurrence rates and risks for malignant transformation, treatment modalities, and prognosis of these tumours...

We here report a rare salivary gland tumor, a non-sebaceous lymphadenoma (NSLA), in the parotid gland with positive technetium-99m (99mTc) pertechnetate scintigraphy and cervical masses that was difficult to distinguish from malignant lymphoma preoperatively. A 65-year-old Japanese woman presented to our institution with a painless left parotid mass that had been gradually enlarging for three months. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging showed a solid mass (30 mm) in the tail of the left parotid gland with three swellings (each 10 mm) on the periphery of the parotid gland...

An 82-year-old woman presented with a painless, progressively enlarging right neck mass of 2 years' duration. CT with contrast showed a 5.0 cm confluence of nodes just inferior to the right parotid gland. Fine-needle aspiration showed a lymphoproliferative disorder. Incisional biopsy showed sebaceous lymphadenoma. She subsequently underwent superficial right parotidectomy with neck dissection of level II-V (performed for enlarged lymph nodes causing significant pain). Facial nerve was preserved. She remained free of disease nearly 1 year postoperatively...

INTRODUCTION: Sebaceous lymphadenoma of the parotid (SLP) is a rare, benign tumor with similar epidemiological and macroscopic characteristics with other sebaceous differentiated tumors of the parotid (SDTP). The authors report a case of SLP in an 80-year-old woman. They then recall the distinctive histological and immunohistochemical criteria of SDTP. OBSERVATION: Mrs P. D. was received during a surgical consultation for the management of a painless right parotid swelling that has evolved for 10years, increasing slightly in volume...

Sebaceous lymphadenomas are rare and account for less than 1% of primary salivary gland tumors. These rare tumors are mostly found in men older than 50 years. The clinicopathological features of these tumors are poorly understood and no definite causative factor has been reported for them till now. They are not often diagnosed prior to surgery, which could be due to their rarity and lack of enough preop radiological and cytological findings. Few case reports have been published in literature about their pathogenesis and accompanying malignant lesions...
