We examined 1367 apterous viviparae from 151 samples to study Aphis craccivora, A. tropaeoli and a third, possibly new species in Argentina, resembling both. Principal component analysis (PCA), followed by hierarchical clustering of principal components (HCPC), revealed clusters based on 33 morphological characters of 206 selected specimens. The delimitation of possible taxonomic entities was assessed by logistic regression. PCA confirmed that A. tropaeoli is a valid species. HCPC revealed the existence of a new species distinct from A...

Blanchardaphis was erected for two Argentinian species of aphids very similar to Uroleucon, but distinguished by several characters. Here, we examined morphology and DNA sequences of Blanchardaphis specimens from Argentina and Chile. We further conducted a phylogenetic analysis to determine the relationship of Blanchardaphis to Uroleucon. We found minor morphological and genetic differences between Blanchardaphis samples based on geography, which appear to be population-level variation. On the basis of current evidence, we conclude that B...

In the whole of Argentina and Chile, southern South America in this paper, 20 species of the genus Aphis hosted in species of Asteraceae were known; eleven of them are native South American, and those introduced are mostly polyphagous and widespread. The Chilean regions and the Argentine provinces in which each one of them is known, as well as the host plants on which it has been recorded, are listed. New data of 15 of them are presented, with several first records in different Argentine provinces or hosted on diverse plants: The knowledge of A...

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) angiography (OCTA) has been actively studied as a noninvasive imaging technology to generate retinal blood vessel network maps for the diagnoses of retinal diseases. Given that the uses of OCT and OCTA have increased in the field of ophthalmology, it is necessary to develop retinal phantoms for clinical OCT for product development, performance evaluation, calibration, certification, medical device licensing, and production processes. We developed a retinal layer-mimicking phantom with microfluidic channels based on microfluidic fabrication technology using polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and titanium dioxide (TiO2 ) powder...

This paper summarizes the historical and recent research on the aquatic toxicology and bioconcentration potential of tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA), a major flame retardant in electronics. Historical studies on TBBPA are presented in detail, and are compared with more recent research. The historical studies have not been published to date, though they were pivotal in regulatory assessments by the European Union, Canada, and the USA. These assessments have enabled the use of TBBPA as a flame retardant in electronic applications, to the present...

INTRODUCTION: To know the opinion/evaluation of the primary care physicians (PCPH) of the received information about patients that were attended in specialized care (SC). DESIGN: Cross-sectional study. LOCATION: Performed nationwide in primary care centers. PARTICIPANTS: Researchers from the primary care network. METHODS: We used the SEH-LELHA derivation criteria guidelines, plus an ad hoc survey that included demographic and anthropometric data, blood pressure levels, and the main reason for derivation to SC at the baseline and final (post-derivation) visit...

The genus Delfinoia Nieto Nafría & Mier Durante gen. n. is established, and Utamphorophora peruviana (Essig), originally Amphorophora peruviana and currently Delfinoia peruvianacomb. n., is designated species type of the genus. The synonymy between this species and Wahlgreniella australis Delfino syn. n. is established. Apterous and alate viviparous females of D. peruviana are redescribed; the male is also described. The species is currently known from Peru and Argentina; a plant of the genus Cayaponia (Cucurbitaceae) is the only identified host...

Background The risk of recurrent stroke among patients with symptomatic carotid near-occlusion is not well established, and management of the condition remains controversial. Symptomatic carotid near-occlusion with full collapse has been identified as a strong predictor of early recurrence. We aimed to analyze the 90-day risk of recurrent ipsilateral ischemic stroke in medically treated patients with symptomatic carotid near-occlusion. Methods We performed a multicenter, nationwide, prospective study from January 2010 to May 2016...

Aphis species living on the South American native genus Mulinum are studied. Aphis vurilocensis Nieto Nafría, Brown and López Ciruelos, sp. n. is described from apterous viviparous females. Alate viviparous females, oviparous females and winged males of Aphis roberti are described. Knowledge of intraspecific variability of apterous viviparous females of A. martinezi, A. paravanoi and A. roberti is developed. An identification key of apterous viviparous females of Aphis species living on Mulinum is presented...

A new species of aphid, belonging to the genus Macrosiphoniella Del Guercio, 1911, is described using three samples collected in Iran on Helichrysum armenium (Asteraceae, Inuleae) by the late Prof. G. Remaudière. Both apterous and alate viviparous females of the new taxon, Macrosiphoniella remaudiereisp. n., are described and compared to corresponding morphs of the closely allied Macrosiphoniella aetnensis and to other congeneric aphid species on Helichrysum in the Palaearctic region. Type specimens are now stored in the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle in Paris...

In nine patients (pts.) with recurrent SVT, we have performed a combined electrophysiological and hemodynamic study. Five pts. showed reciprocating nodal tachycardia and 4 pts. reentry tachycardia associated with WPW syndrome (2 with Kent bypass tract and 2 with James bypass tract). Hemodynamic parameters were recorded during sinus rhythm (SR), atrial (AP) and ventricular pacing (VP) and following the initiation of SVT. The arrhythmia was induced by rapid atrial pacing or with atrial or ventricular premature stimuli...

Sixty two-dimensional M-mode echocardiograms of myocardial infarction patients, performed 3--6 months after acute attack, were compared with those of 30 normal subjects. In one-dimensional echocardiograms, the dimensions of the left ventricle and some segmentary signs of contractility such as diastolic thickness, excursion and systolic thickening of the septum and the posterior wall of the left ventricle were examined, in two-dimensional echocardiograms the contractility of single areas was compared to those adjacent...
