Introduction: The feeling of incongruence between phenotypic sex and psychological recognition of self-gender is termed gender dysphoria. Transsexualism is the most extreme form of this disorder. Aims and Objectives: The aims and objectives of the study are to evaluate the esthetic and functional outcome of embryonic equivalents-based male-to-female sex reassignment surgery in transwomen using the institutional scoring system. Materials and Methods: Thirty transwomen who had undergone male-to-female embryonic equivalents-based sex reassignment surgery (MFEEbSRS) from October 2012 to March 2016 were retrospectively studied...

For decades, Thailand has been at the forefront of sex reassignment surgeries. The neovagina created by recto-sigmoid vaginoplasty is much more complex procedure when compared with penile skin version technique, but yielded more satisfactory functional outcomes. We reported an unusual case of life-threatening small bowel obstruction following previously successful recto-sigmoid vaginoplasty in a transgender woman. Transgender individuals have unique healthcare needs. However, various gaps still exist to provide multi-disciplinary care for these patients...

Transgender people have among the highest rates of suicide attempts of any group in society, driven strongly by the perception that they do not belong in the sex of their physical body. Gender reassignment surgery (GRS) is a procedure that can change the transgender person's physical body to accord with their gender identity. The procedure raises important ethical and distributive justice concerns, given the controversy of whether it is a cosmetic or medical procedure and the economic costs associated with performing the procedure...

OBJECTIVE: To understand the process of sexual reassignment from the perspective of people who undergo this procedure; to know how their body image influences their day to day life and the impact on their sexuality, and to learn from transgender male experiences in order to guide the health care teams involved, so that they can provide care in a more adjusted way to actual needs. METHOD: Qualitative study with a total of 7 male transsexuals over 18 years of age, undergoing at least one surgery intervention for sexual reassignment, using data collection techniques such as individual, semi structured, open, audio recorded interviews and writing of reflective diaries...

In primary male to female (MTF) sex reassignment surgery (SRS), the most frequent postoperative functional complications using the penoscrotal skin technique remain neovaginal stenosis, urinary meatal stenosis and secondary revision surgery. We aimed to retrospectively analyze postoperative functional and anatomical complications, as well as secondary procedures required after MTF SRS by penile skin inversion. All patients operated on for MTF SRS, using the inverted technique, from June 2006 to July 2016, were retrospectively reviewed...

We report an original case of a 27-year-old transgender woman who developed lupus nephritis after male-to-female sex reassignment surgery. The patient had been taking hormones to induce feminization since the age of 18. She was admitted with malar "butterfly" rash, anasarca and hypertension, associated with an increase in serum creatinine (1.7 mg/dl). Renal involvement was characterized by nephritic and nephrotic syndrome. Autoantibody tests were positive for antinuclear antibodies and anti-double-stranded DNA, and complement levels were markedly reduced...

INTRODUCTION: Lesbian, gay, and bisexuals have unique healthcare needs. Breast cancer is leading cancer in women, worldwide, accounting for 25% of all cases. Annual incidence rates increased significantly in all countries and age groups. The occurrence of breast cancer is rare in transgender population. As they have very limited access to medical care, it is much less likely to pursue breast cancer screening than in other individuals not identified as transgender. REVIEW OF THE CASES FROM LITERATURE: Up to date, only 13 cases of the breast cancer transsexuals (female to male) have been reported in six published papers worldwide...

BACKGROUND: In male-to-female genital sex reassignment surgery, the clitoris, its prepuce, and the labia minora remain among the most difficult structures to construct. We describe the authors' clitoroplasty and vulvoplasty technique. METHODS: All patients who underwent male-to-female sex reassignment surgery at a single center, between June 2012 and June 2016, were prospectively included. The standard pedicled island neurovascular flap of the glans penis was harvested in a letter M fashion with attached preputial skin...

Although vaginal reconstructions with intestinal segments require particularly complex surgical procedures, this technique has become popular with respect to fairly good functional and esthetic outcomes. This study describes cases of vaginal reconstruction performed using a modified rectosigmoid colon held in an ischemic state in order to reduce secretion and denervated in order to prevent defecation problems. Vaginal reconstructions with rectosigmoid colon were performed on 43 patients. In this retrospective study, 34 patients had Müllerian agenesis, while nine had undergone male to female sex reassignment surgery in which adequate vaginal depth had not been achieved...

Transgender or gender dysphoria has been defined in the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), as distress resulting from the incongruence between one's experienced gender and one's assigned gender, along with a persistent and strong desire to be of another gender, and accompanied by clinically significant distress. Adolescents referred for evaluation often want hormonal therapy and several among them also express a desire for gender reassignment surgery. Furthermore, evidence shows that adolescents and adults with gender dysphoria without a sex development disorder, before gender reassignments, are at increased risk for suicide...

The testis has been described in animal models as a site of immune privilege, which protects spermatids against tissue damage during inflammation. Myeloid cells, including macrophages and dendritic cells (DC), are defined as key players in the testicular immune privilege in animal models. However, their distribution and frequency in human testis remain poorly described. To overcome the challenges related to tissue sampling, we obtained testicular tissue from men under hormonal therapy who elected to have sex reassignment surgery (SRS)...

BACKGROUND: Currently available patient-reported outcome measures are limited in the field of sex reassignment surgery (SRS). Standardized questionnaires deliver high evidence data on satisfaction of male-to-female (MTF) transgender patients but do not allow any modification in their clinical application. We therefore designed a prospective study using self-developed indication-specific questionnaires to evaluate the aesthetic, functional, and sexual outcomes of MTF patients undergoing SRS...

Many vaginoplasty techniques have been introduced to improve the outcomes of sex reassignment surgery for male-to-female transsexuals. Some vaginoplasty patients still require additional skin grafts, making dilation mandatory to overcome shrinkage. We developed a new vaginoplasty method (called the "pudendal-groin flap") that uses pudendal-groin flaps. One of this procedure's advantages is that skin grafts are unnecessary, even for patients with small penises and scrotums. We introduce the procedure here and describe our evaluation of its utility...

INTRODUCTION: After the diagnosis of transsexualism is confirmed therapy commences with psychotherapeutic preparation for the conversion, and after conversion, long-term patient rehabilitation is maintained for at least two years. The indication for surgery is chronic discomfort caused by discord with the patient's natural gender, intense dislike of developing secondary sex characteristics and the onset of puberty. The surgical conversion of transsexuals is the main step in the complex care of these problematic patients (1)...

Patients with gender dysphoria are offered cross-sex hormone therapy and sex reassignment surgery to achieve the transition between the sex assigned at birth and gender identity. According to international guidelines, cross-sex hormone therapy in trans-women should lead to a psychologically and physiologically healthy body with feminized serum hormone levels, resulting in suppression of spermatogenesis. However, in a recently published multi-center study, we discovered a high proportion of patients with male serum hormone levels and qualitatively intact spermatogenesis on the day of sex reassignment surgery...
