Changes in the mother-offspring relationship are presumably accompanied by dynamic changes in the autonomic nervous system. Although temporal measurements of autonomic activity have been performed in human mothers and infants, the analysis of long-term changes remains unexplored. Mouse mothers can form social bonds with their pups and have a short period of pregnancy and lactation, which makes them useful for the examination of physiological changes from pregnancy to pup-rearing. Therefore, a telemetry system was used for several weeks to measure the changes in the autonomic nervous system and the behavior of mouse mothers...

Super-resolution (SR) techniques have revolutionized the field of biomedical applications by detailing the structures at resolutions beyond the limits of imaging or measuring tools. These techniques have been applied in various biomedical applications, including microscopy, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), X-ray, electroencephalogram (EEG), ultrasound, etc. SR methods are categorized into two main types: traditional non-learning-based methods and modern learning-based approaches. In both applications, SR methodologies have been effectively utilized on biomedical images, enhancing the visualization of complex biological structures...

Myocardial infarction (MI) is a common cardiovascular disease caused by the blockages of coronary arteries. The visual inspection of electrocardiogram (ECG) is the main diagnosis pattern, while it is taxing and time-consuming. Motivated from state refinement module for long short term memory (SRM-LSTM), we proposed two improved state refinement frameworks based on LSTM and gated recurrent unit (GRU) called ISRM-LSTM and ISRM-GRU. Both are capable of adaptively refining current states of sample points in ECG with a message passing mechanism than existing LSTM...

BACKGROUND: Understanding the factors that contribute to diagnostic errors is critical if we are to correct or prevent them. Some scholars influenced by the default interventionist dual-process theory of cognition (dual-process theory) emphasise a narrow focus on individual clinician's faulty reasoning as a significant contributor. In this paper, we examine the validity of claims that dual process theory is a key to error reduction. METHODS: We examined the relationship between a clinical experience (staff and resident physicians) and viewing time on accuracy for categorising chest X-rays (CXRs) and electrocardiograms (ECGs)...

The pathophysiology of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) driven by lipotoxicity is incompletely understood. Given the urgent need for animal models that accurately mimic cardio-metabolic HFpEF, a hyperlipidemia-induced murine model was developed by reverse engineering phenotypes seen in HFpEF patients. This model aimed to investigate HFpEF, focusing on the interplay between lipotoxicity and metabolic syndrome. Hyperlipidemia was induced in wild-type (WT) mice on a 129J strain background through bi-weekly intraperitoneal injections of poloxamer-407 (P-407), a block co-polymer that blocks lipoprotein lipase, combined with a single intravenous injection of adeno-associated virus 9-cardiac troponin T-low-density lipoprotein receptor (AAV9-cTnT-LDLR)...

PURPOSE: Lower extremity magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) without electrocardiography (ECG) or peripheral pulse unit (PPU) triggering and contrast enhancement is beneficial for diagnosing peripheral arterial disease (PAD) while avoiding synchronization failure and nephrogenic systemic fibrosis. This study aimed to compare the diagnostic performance of turbo spin-echo-based enhanced acceleration-selective arterial spin labeling (eAccASL) (TSE-Acc) of the lower extremities with that of turbo field-echo-based eAccASL (TFE-Acc) and triggered angiography non-contrast enhanced (TRANCE)...

OBJECTIVE:
Myocardial infarction (MI) is a serious cardiovascular disease that can cause irreversible damage to the heart, making early identification and treatment crucial. However, automatic MI detection and localization from an electrocardiogram (ECG) remain challenging. In this study, we propose two models, MFB-SENET and MFB-DMIL, for MI detection and localization, respectively. APPROACH: The MFB-SENET model is designed to detect MI, while the MFB-DMIL model is designed to localize MI...

Ictal and interictal activity within the autonomic nervous system is characterized by a sympathetic overshoot in people with epilepsy. This autonomic dysfunction is assumed to be driven by alterations in the central autonomic network. In this study, exercise-induced changes of the interrelation of central and peripheral autonomic activity in patients with epilepsy was assessed. 21 patients with epilepsy (16 seizure-free), and 21 healthy matched controls performed an exhaustive bicycle ergometer test. Immediately before and after the exercise test, resting state electroencephalography measurements (Brain Products GmbH, 128-channel actiCHamp) of 5 min were carried out to investigate functional connectivity assessed by phase locking value in source space for whole brain, central autonomic network and visual network...

Research of novel biosignal modalities with application to remote patient monitoring is a subject of state-of-the-art developments. This study is focused on sonified ECG modality, which can be transmitted as an acoustic wave and received by GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) microphones. Thus, the wireless connection between the patient module and the cloud server can be provided over an audio channel, such as a standard telephone call or audio message. Patients, especially the elderly or visually impaired, can benefit from ECG sonification because the wireless interface is readily available, facilitating the communication and transmission of secure ECG data from the patient monitoring device to the remote server...

Identifying electrical dyssynchrony is crucial for cardiac pacing and cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT). The ultra-high-frequency electrocardiography (UHF-ECG) technique allows instantaneous dyssynchrony analyses with real-time visualization. This review explores the physiological background of higher frequencies in ventricular conduction and the translational evolution of UHF-ECG in cardiac pacing and CRT. Although high-frequency components were studied half a century ago, their exploration in the dyssynchrony context is rare...

In patients with premature ventricular contractions (PVCs), non-invasive mapping could locate the PVCs' origin on a personalized 3-dimensional (3D) heart model and, thus, facilitate catheter ablation therapy planning. The aim of our report is to evaluate its accuracy compared to invasive mapping in terms of assessing the PVCs' early activation zone (EAZ). For this purpose, non-invasive electrocardiographic imaging (ECGI) was performed using the Amycard 01C system (EP Solutions SA, Switzerland) in three cases...

Patients with many forms of congenital heart disease (CHD) and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy undergo surgical intervention to relieve left ventricular outflow tract obstruction (LVOTO). Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (CCT) defines the complex pathway from the ventricle to the outflow tract and can be visualized in 2D, 3D, and 4D (3D in motion) to help define the mechanism and physiologic significance of obstruction. Advanced cardiac visualization may aid in surgical planning to relieve obstruction in the left ventricular outflow tract, aortic or neo-aortic valve and the supravalvular space...
