BACKGROUND: 10% of women of reproductive age are affected by endometriosis, and diaphragmatic endometriosis represents 1-1.5% of these cases. Diaphragmatic endometriotic lesions often require surgical treatment. OBJECTIVE: This video aims to demonstrate the appearance of diaphragmatic endometriosis and describe our experience with robot-assisted laparoscopic excision of full thickness diaphragmatic endometriosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The patient was a 37-year-old female with the complaint of cyclical right shoulder pain (for 1 year)...

Abnormal endometrial receptivity is a major cause of the failure of embryo transplantation, which may lead to infertility, adverse pregnancy, and neonatal outcomes. While hormonal treatment has dramatically improved the fertility outcomes in women with endometriosis, a substantial unmet need persists in the treatment. In this study, methacrylate gelatin (GelMA) and methacrylate sericin (SerMA) hydrogel with human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (HUMSC) encapsulation was designed for facilitating endometrial regeneration and fertility restoration through in situ injection...

INTRODUCTION: Umbilical endometriosis (UE) is defined as the presence of endometrial-like tissue within the umbilicus and represents around 0.5-1% of all cases of endometriosis. UE is classified into primary or secondary UE. In this retrospective study, we aimed to assess symptoms, signs, recurrence rate of treated lesions, psychological wellbeing and health-related quality of life in women with UE. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed all cases of women diagnosed with UE in the period 1990-2021 in our center...

Endometriosis is a relatively uncommon benign pathology that accounts for 0.5%-1% of all extra-pelvic endometriosis. This pathology is characterized by the presence of ectopic endometrial tissue outside the endometrial cavity and is accompanied by the clinical appearance of a bleeding umbilical nodule. Despite the non-specificity of the characteristic imaging signs, abdominal ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging aid in diagnosis. We describe a case of primary umbilical endometriosis, as well as the clinical aspects and role of imaging in the positive diagnosis of this uncommon pathology...

BACKGROUND: Umbilical discharge in an adult is rare and generates broad diagnostic considerations. Umbilical anatomy is variable owing to congenital abnormalities and acquired pathology such as umbilical hernias. The umbilicus can be a site of primary or metastatic malignancy or endometriosis. CASE PRESENTATION: A 40-year-old white American woman came to the clinic with a 2-day history of spontaneous umbilical bleeding. She reported periumbilical pain associated with nausea and emesis...

In recent years, the function of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cell-originated extracellular vesicles (hUC-MSC-EVs) on endometriosis has been reported, while its specific mechanisms remain largely unknown. This study aimed at investigating the mechanisms underlying the modulation of EVs harboring miR-100 derived from hUC-MSCs in the growth dynamics of endometrial stromal cells in endometriosis. Endometriosis mouse models were established. miR-100 was upregulated and HS3ST2 was downregulated in endometriosis...

Endometriosis occurrence at a laparoscopic trocar-site incision is extremely rare with only 30 previous cases published. We present a 43-year-old female with surgical history of two cesarean sections and a laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass who presented with history of cyclical bleeding from an umbilical mass coinciding with her menstrual cycle. Ultrasound demonstrated a complex solid and cystic lesion measuring 2.5 x 1.4 x 1.4 cm. This umbilical mass was surgically resected and gross examination perioperatively demonstrated dark-colored cystic implants consistent with endometrioma...

Ureteral strictures, which can be caused by ureteral injury, radiation therapy, ureterolithiasis, urinary tract infections, and ureteral endometriosis, typically require ureteral reconstruction. Although tissue engineering, autologous alternative tissue transplantation, and surgical techniques applying various flaps have been carried out for ureteral regeneration, all with some success, each method has its advantages and disadvantages. As an alternative, we created the first artificial ureter structures using only live cells and grafted them into healthy rat ureters...

Umbilical endometriosis is a rare event. A 44-year-old woman complained of a palpable abdominal mass with bloody secretion and chronic abdominal pain for 2 months. 18F-FDG PET/CT images demonstrated multiple foci of increased tracer uptake indicating malignant tumor with metastases in the region of umbilicus and lower segment of the esophagus. Unexpectedly, the subsequent histology and immunohistochemistry of the umbilical lesion demonstrated endometriosis.

BACKGROUND: Endometriosis usually presents in the pelvic region, but extragenital endometriosis may occur in almost every other organ. Umbilical endometriosis represents 0.5-1.2 % of all cases of endometriosis, and can further be divided into primary and secondary presentation, occurring in women without and with umbilical scars, respectively. Common clinical presentation is periodic pain, swelling and bleeding. CASE PRESENTATION: A woman in her thirties without abdominal scars presented with a painful umbilical nodule with spontaneous periodic bleeding and swelling...

Endometriosis is a common gynecological disease that mainly influences pelvic organs. However, extra-pelvic endometriosis is considered less prevalent. Here, we present a case study of umbilical endometriosis associated with an underlying hernia. It is known that the incidence of such a case is very rare and its diagnosis is challenging. Surgical excision of this type of lesion with a repair of the hernia is considered the preferred management approach. In this case, a 40-year-old female was admitted to the hospital with cyclical umbilical bleeding for one year...

Endometriosis is a condition in which endometrial tissue implants outside the uterine cavity, which can cause cyclic pain, dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, and infertility. Endometriosis implants are typically seen on pelvic peritoneal surfaces and extra-pelvic disease is uncommon. We present an interesting case of primary umbilical endometriosis in a patient who presented with umbilical bleeding with a history of pelvic inflammatory disease complicated by bilateral tubo-ovarian abscesses. She was found to have an umbilical mass, which was resected, and the pathology was consistent with endometriosis...

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The umbilicus is known to receive metastatic malignancy from diverse visceral organs. Accurate and correct diagnosis of umbilical lesions is imperative since metastatic malignancy signifies a serious underlying situation with dire prognosis. Identification of demographic features that can contribute to diagnostic resolution of umbilical lesions is desirable. OBJECTIVE: To describe a novel, minimally invasive technique for performing myomectomy, a fertility-sparing procedure. DESIGN: This technique was developed based on similar techniques for other surgeries that showed a benefit. Liu et al. (1) described vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (vNOTES) for myomectomy, in which a 6-cm myoma was resected transvaginally. An anterior colpotomy was made, and single-site surgical skills were used to perform the entire myomectomy without an abdominal incision and with minimal blood loss (1)...
