The aim of this manuscript was to review the knowledge about leptin, detailing its relationship with energetic intake and physical activity. Leptin is an adipocyte hormone, recognized mainly for its putative role in control of energy expenditure, food intake, body weight and reproductive function. Leptin has still important peripheral actions, including its role on the ovarian tissue. The intracellular signaling mechanisms are recognized in hypothalamus, but in peripheral tissue are not fully understood. The exercise, when practiced by women, if not appropriately planned according to food intake, can modify the leptin release...

A 40 year-old 2nd gesta pregnant woman (34.5 weeks of amenorhea) was admitted to hospital for abdominal pain and arterial hypotension which were rapidly related to a retroperitoneal haematoma due to left kidney bleeding. Emergency cesarean delivery under general anaesthesia was undertaken because of foetal distress. Exploration of the retroperitonal space after foetal extraction confirmed the presence of a large haematoma and abnormal left renal morphology. The retroperitoneal space was drained without any further intervention...

OBJECTIVES: Burkitt's lymphoma (BL) occurs mostly in children. Isolated bilateral ovarian involvement presenting with amenorrhea is extremely rare in young adults. CASE: A 24-year-old female presented with secondary amenorrhea. Bilateral adnexal masses were identified on physical examination and abdominal computed tomography (CT). She underwent total abdominal histerectomy and bilateral salpingoophorectomy. Histopathologic evaluation yielded a diagnosis of BL of ovaries...

OBJECTIVE: To examine twin similarities on biparietal diameter (BPD) measurements by zygosity (monozygotic [MZ] and dizygotic [DZ]) and chorionicity (monochorionic [MC] and dichorionic [DC]) and their evolution during pregnancy. METHOD: A sample of 54 pairs of twins (43 DZ sets, 11 MZ sets [7 MC and 4 DC]) was constructed using retrospective data. Despite the small sample size, our data were complete, and, for the first time we measured different fetal parameters on digital ultrasound images outside routine examination...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Ectopic pregnancy (EP) is common in Cameroon, and incidence is increasing. Ultrasound (US), has been shown to play a key role in its diagnosis, particularly when the transvaginal (TV) route is used. The purpose of our work is to describe sonographic features of EP, and to assess the role of the transvaginal route in the diagnosis of this disease in our environment. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The study was prospectively carried in the US unit of the Yaoundé University teaching Hospital (Cameroon) during a 2 year period...

Ten patients with polycystic ovarian disease and normoprolactinemia received bromocriptine 5 mg daily for up to 4 months. The following parameters were evaluated before treatment and at monthly intervals menstrual patterns, hirsutism score, weight, and blood pressure and LH, FSH, prolactine, unbound and total testosterone in plasma. In 5 out of 10 subjects with oligomenorhea or amenorhea normal menstruations were observed; 3 additional subjects got more frequent but not normal menstruation and 2 patients got pregnant...
