PURPOSE: This mini-review delves into the realm of Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) in children, focusing on its skeletal involvement. By synthesizing pertinent literature, we sought to provide a comprehensive understanding of LCH's clinical and radiographic spectrum. Our study then demonstrates the diagnostic prowess of whole-body 99m Tc-methyl diphosphonate (MDP) scintigraphy in LCH cases, underscoring its value in tandem with existing knowledge. METHODS: Our approach involved an extensive literature review that contextualized LCH within the current medical landscape...

BACKGROUND: Lymph node metastases (LNM) are rare in early-stage endometrial cancer, but a diagnostic systematic lymphadenectomy (LNE) is often performed to achieve reliable N-staging. Therefore, this prospective study aimed to evaluate the benefit of [18F]-Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET/MRI complementary to SPECT/CT guided sentinel lymphonodectomy (SLNE) for a less invasive N-staging Methods: 79 patients underwent a whole-body FDG-PET/MRI, SLN mapping with 99m Tc-Nanocolloid SPECT/CT and indocyanine green (ICG) fluoroscopy followed by LNE which served as ground truth...

The expression level of PD-L1 in tumor tissue is considered one of the effective biomarkers to guide PD-1/PD-L1 therapy. Quantifying whole-body PD-L1 expression by SPECT imaging may help in selecting patients that potentially respond to PD-1/PD-L1 therapy. Nanobody is the smallest antibody fragment with antigen-binding ability that is well suited for radionuclide imaging. Nevertheless, high retention of radioactivity in the kidney may limit its clinical translation. The present study aimed to screen, design, and prepare a nanobody-based SPECT probe with rapid renal clearance to evaluate the PD-L1 expression level in vivo noninvasively...

A 69-year-old woman presented with a right clavicle pain. CT revealed a pathological fracture of the right clavicle, multiple osteolytic lesions, and a left cervical mass. 18F-FDG PET/CT demonstrated a marked FDG uptake in the cervical mass and osteolytic lesions indicative of metastatic parathyroid cancer. 99mTc-MIBI SPECT/CT revealed either faint or no uptake in the osteolytic lesions. However, a histopathological analysis after a parathyroidectomy and right clavicle biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of parathyroid cancer and the presence of benign brown tumors secondary to hyperparathyroidism...

The main goal of this work was to elucidate the potential relevance of (radio)metal chelates of 99mTc and Re targeting G-quadruplex structures for the design of new tools for cancer theranostics. 99mTc provides the complexes with the ability to perform single-photon-emission computed tomography imaging studies, while the Re complexes should act as anticancer agents upon interaction with specific G4 DNA or RNA structures present in tumor tissues. Towards this goal, we have developed isostructural 99mTc(I) and Re(I) tricarbonyl complexes anchored by a pyrazolyl-diamine (Pz) chelator carrying a pendant pyridostatin (PDS) fragment as the G4-binding motif...

Myocardial perfusion scintigraphy is a popular minimally invasive method for evaluating chronic coronary disease (CCD). We performed myocardial scintigraphy to assess CCD in a 74-year-old man with a history of allergy to contrast media. The patient developed anaphylactic shock immediately after the administration of the technetium (99m Tc)-tetrofosmin preparation. This is the first report of anaphylactic shock due to 99m Tc-tetrofosmin administration during myocardial perfusion scintigraphy.

A 53-year-old man with follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) was referred for renal scintigraphy using 99mTc-DTPA to assess the kidney function. Unexpectedly, the images showed an abnormal uptake of radiotracer in the right pelvic region. It corresponded to the site of metastasis in the right ilium revealed on 131I SPECT/CT images. The biopsy pathology of the ilium lesion demonstrated follicular thyroid cancer.

A 36-year-old woman with a history of medullary thyroid carcinoma was referred for 99mTc-HYNIC-FAPI-46 scan. Her calcitonin levels gradually increased after external beam radiation therapy, whereas her CEA levels were stable. A few suspicious tumoral lymphadenopathies were localized to the superior mediastinum. Interestingly, bilateral physiologic breast uptake was noticed, which was presumed to be due to lactation in the past 18 months. To our knowledge, physiologic breast uptake in 99mTc-HYNIC-FAPI imaging has not been previously reported...

BACKGROUND: Soluble oligomeric forms of Tau protein have emerged as crucial players in the propagation of Tau pathology in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Our objective is to introduce a single-domain antibody (sdAb) named 2C5 as a novel radiotracer for the efficient detection and longitudinal monitoring of oligomeric Tau species in the human brain. METHODS: The development and production of 2C5 involved llama immunization with the largest human Tau isoform oligomers of different maturation states...

Positron Emission Tomography (PET) has been growing in usage for patients with breast cancer, due to an increased number of FDA-approved PET radiotracers pertinent to patients with breast cancer as well as increased prospective evidence for the value of these agents. The leading PET radiotracer for patients with breast cancer is 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG), which measures glucose metabolism. There is prospective evidence for the use of 18F-FDG PET in systemic staging of newly diagnosed locally advanced breast cancer (stages IIB-IIIC), monitoring breast cancer treatment response, and detecting breast cancer recurrence, particularly in no special type (NST) breast cancer...

We present two rare cases of parathyroid carcinomas associated with multiple brown tumours. Plain radiographs, computed tomography, and neck ultrasonography revealed the presence of bone and parathyroid tumours. Despite the use of 99m Tc-methoxy isobutyl isonitrile (99mTc-MIBI) or 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography (18F-FDG PET)/CT, it was difficult to differentiate bone metastases from brown tumours. Parathyroid carcinoma was confirmed by histopathological examination following parathyroidectomy, resulting in spontaneous bone lesion improvement...

99mTc-PYP/DPD/HDMP cardiac scintigraphy has a pivotal role in the diagnosis of ATTR cardiac amyloidosis. The combined findings of a Perugini visual score of 2 or 3 in the scan and the absence of monoclonal proteins in blood and urine are highly specific for the diagnosis of ATTR cardiac amyloidosis without a tissue biopsy. We report a case of mitral annular and valve calcification accurately identified in the SPECT/CT, but which could be misinterpreted as ATTR cardiac amyloidosis if only acquiring planar and SPECT images...

A 79-year-old man presented with a palpable left axillary mass and ultrasonography findings of conglomerate lymph nodes. The initial clinical suspicion was a lymphoproliferative disorder, but histopathological results revealed a grade 3 neuroendocrine tumor. The mass showed somatostatin receptor overexpression in 99mTc-HYNIC-TOC scintigraphy and high uptake in 18F-FDG PET/CT. Bilateral hypermetabolic adrenal nodes suggestive of metastases were also detected. BACKGROUND: Postsurgical spinal infections are a severe complication and a challenge to the neurosurgeon due to their complex management. Revision surgeries and the removal of hardware are usually necessary. Recently, advances in nuclear medicine have made it possible to employ radiotracers to identify infections. The radiolabeled antimicrobial peptide technetium-99m-ubiquicidin (99mTc-UBI) (29-41) has been demonstrated to detect bacterial infections. UBI 29-41 is a peptide sequence with selective binding to the anionic cell membrane of bacteria, which has recently been used to differentiate between infection and inflammation...
